To ask for a doll house for Christmas for myself

whatsthebigdeal · 07/11/2016 08:11

Ok so partner asks me what I want for Christmas
I have everything the only thing I want is a doll house, but the playmobil one
Looking online adult collectors of playmobil is a massive thing

I love reminiscing over childhood things, I know it's a bit silly but I would love to collect all the people and bits
I haven't asked yet, is it too silly to ask for?
I already collect cuddly toys and used to collect Lego sets as an adult, is this any different?
Probably going to get flamed for being a weirdo but hey ho
(And I've got no kids I can buy it for)

Haha - my ds loved Playmobil, and collected loads from when he was about 5. But now he's 15 and no longer interested. This is the first year he doesn't want even a tiny bit of Playmobil for Christmas.

I have found myself eyeing up all the sets in the Playmobil catalogue, and thinking of buying them for myself. I'm also thinking about setting up some scenes with ds's Playmobil, all of which we still have! Grin

SoMuchToBits · 07/11/2016 09:45

Oh and IMO the Playmobil house will be much better than a traditional doll's house, because you can then add lots of other Playmobil from different themes.

I really want the bottle recycling lorry

whatsthebigdeal · 07/11/2016 09:48

I really like the water park too!

SoMuchToBits · 07/11/2016 09:53

And all the camping stuff!

Solasum · 07/11/2016 09:56

I bought myself a Duplo Hospital last year for DS's birthday. We both play with it all the time. Playmobil starts this year!

SoMuchToBits · 07/11/2016 09:56

I love this cool surfer dude too!

He's great! The zoo and farm ones are my favourites. This alpaca is top of my hit list...

Playmobil is awesome! I totally understand what you mean, OP. Last Christmas, when my ex and I were still together , I asked for an Ever After High doll. I don't collect dolls or anything;I just desperately wanted that feeling of being a child again - releasing her from her little plastic ties, removing her cellophane 'crown'..... Grown up presents are boring (checks out Playmobil site...)

SpunkyMummy · 07/11/2016 10:05

I've never had anything from play mobile and I don't see the appeal. I would think that your wish is slightly silly/quirky, yes.

However, me buying Christmas baubles every time we're one a holiday (even if it's July) is probably slightly silly quirky as well. So, go for it :)👍

SpunkyMummy · 07/11/2016 10:06

*playmobil.

TKRedLemonade · 07/11/2016 10:11

I have a very serious career and just finished a PhD. Wanted to treat myself so what did I buy? Not diamond earrings, not a bracelet. Nope a big box of Lego! Just because I decided that's what I wanted! Go for it

whatsthebigdeal · 07/11/2016 10:17

Yeah grown up presents are boring
I thought everyone would say, grow up,its too weird
I know what you mean itshouldhavebeenjess, the thought of getting up on Christmas morning to open your toys!!

My sister and I used to have absolutely masses of Harry Potter lego and as teenagers gave it all away to the little boys next door. I now regret this massively and recently decided to rebuild my very own collection and informed DP I would like some for Christmas to start me off. He thinks I'm mad but meh Grin.

Also we had a playmobil dollshouse and it was GREAT. Also regretting giving that away... DS I would love to have it now!

IJustLostTheGame · 07/11/2016 10:48

It is a bit weird.
But who isn't a bit weird in their own way?
As long as your weird makes you happy and harms no one then I say go with it.
I love playmobil

I'm asking for some hardcore taffeta and cross grain ribbon for christmas as I want to make a lobster tail bustle for no other reason than I think they're really graceful.
Grin

This thread has led to me arranging to buy the sealion show and the playground set with the chair roundabout thing, from someone on Gumtree Grin

whatsthebigdeal · 07/11/2016 10:52

I'm inspiring people to find their inner child!!
Yes I agree everyone has their own unique weirdnessGrin

TK. My DS is Lego-obsessed so I always have an excuse to buy it! My holy grail is to recreate the Lego Mall on the Jangbricks website - it's amazing. I had a Playmobil school as a kid and it was one of my best presents ever.

I'm now mentally compiling a list of the 'ones that got away' : Frosty ice making thingy, the mini-Cadbury Dairy Milk dispenser, a BMX (might look a bit of a twat on one at 42) and several of the Strawberry Shortcake dolls (I only ever had Mint Tulip, never the original). AIBU to lie about my age (and my 'good behaviour' ) in my Santa letter?

ElspethFlashman · 07/11/2016 10:57

I want to buy a PM farm set for DS for Christmas.

DH has found a cheaper non branded version which is actually a bit better as it includes a tractor

AIBU to buy the more expensive Playmobil one instead just cos I never got any as a child? Blush

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 07/11/2016 11:00

elspeth. YANBU!

butterfliesandzebras · 07/11/2016 11:03

A dolls house is the big thing from my childhood that I always wanted but was never given for Christmas/birthday.

If it makes you happy, why not?

whatsthebigdeal · 07/11/2016 11:03

Haha I never got mr frosty either, my mum said it would be too difficult to break the ice, I never got the Cadbury dispenser either!

Ok I've done it, I've asked him, I hope he says yes, and doesn't think I'm nuts and leave me hahaha

I actually reckon that playmobil and Sylvanian families is wasted on wee kids. All these tiny bits and they never want to play with it properly...
My dd is 14 and still plays with Sylvanian families. We now tell people she "collects" it - but really it's because she still enjoys playing with it - mainly setting it all out. It's far too fiddly for wee kids!

whatsthebigdeal · 07/11/2016 12:15

That is true, I like to make the scenes, kids just make a mess with it!
He said I can have it if that's what I really want Smile

Go for it. I find Christmas much more exciting now I can buy my kids loads of toys. My daughter adores dolls and i get to indulge in buying dolls that I was never allowed as a child . Toys are much more interesting than a bunch of the usual stuff adults get and playmobil is cool. Hope your husband says yes
