To think people that walk whilst smoking look uncouth?

I'm not being goady and I am also a smoker but wouldn't ever walk through the street just casually smoke in hand puffing away. I think it looks uncouth. I don't tend to notice people anyway on my commute but I do notice the smokers and think perhaps they should find a bar/cafe with outdoor seating or some kind of smokers corner. Not on the main bloody high-street!

When I was in the military (not UK) we weren't allowed to stroll and smoke in uniform.

I have a friend who says walking and smoking together is like a 69....
She can't enjoy one while doing the other ...

I walk and smoke because that's one of my very few opportunities to smoke. I can hardly do it in the office, the house, on the bus or in shops! Also I enjoy it. Especially if I am in a bad mood, nothing beats furiously smoking as I stamp along thinking very bad thoughts.

Smoking remains v common where I live (cheaper part of S Manchester) and where I work (mental health hospital) and among my friends (mostly social workers) and among my husband's friends (mostly coachbuilders). I am glad it's lost it's 'cool' reputation among young people though. Maybe it will naturally die out. God knows how anyone afford proper cigs any more (I smoke rollies), let alone teenagers. You could get 20 cigs for less than £2 when I was young, now it's what, £8 a pack?

Smoking in general is uncouth and common though so not sure what the difference is walking around or not?

Just a plead for people like my friend who is very agoraphobic. She smokes if able to get out as it keeps her calm. So yes...she walks and smokes. When her child was smaller she walked while pushing a pushchair and smokes....she knew it looked awful but it was the only way she could get out with her baby.

It looks a bit common irrespective of whether you're walking or stationary.

Someone should write a list of 'rules' so we all know what's common and what is acceptable if you want to walk outside.

I do not think that is unreasonable, and socioeconomic profiling of smokers has fuck-all to do with it.

When I smoked (I gave up 11 years ago) I often smoked while walking around. Couldn't have given a solitary flying fuck if anyone thought it looked uncouth.
Now I'm a non smoker I couldn't care less if other people smoke in the street. If they're standing near me I usually move away, but only because smelling smoke still makes me want to smoke. Yes, even after 11 years.
I never think if it looks uncouth or rough, it just looks like someone smoking.No judgements from me.

Well, I wouldn't really expect people not to drive their cars on roads. It's kind of how they work.

Hardly the same as a selfish smoker who doesn't have the common consideration to sit still while they fag.

And I say that as an ex-smoker.

I'm Australian and I agree it's quite rare to come across a smoker, out of all of my friends and family only one person smokes.
