To think people that walk whilst smoking look uncouth?

I'm not being goady and I am also a smoker but wouldn't ever walk through the street just casually smoke in hand puffing away. I think it looks uncouth. I don't tend to notice people anyway on my commute but I do notice the smokers and think perhaps they should find a bar/cafe with outdoor seating or some kind of smokers corner. Not on the main bloody high-street!

More bloody annoying, when they don't care as people walk past they might get burnt with the burning fag.

Remembers ruined coat from fag burn Angry

I saw someone smoking yesterday in the street and I was a bit taken aback, it's just not very prevalent anymore.

Bloody hell, where I live there's a fug of fag smoke hanging over the street. Seemingly everyone smokes.

YouTheCat · 05/11/2016 23:47

When I finish work, I shall continue to perambulate with a lovely fag. I do not care if you think me uncouth.

I shield my precious ciggie from others so as not to burn/smoke on/irritate them as much as is physically possible.

By the time I finish work I am hallucinating fags like Father Ted during Lent.

Briarthorn · 05/11/2016 23:51

I like seeing men people who sub-ohm vape walking along. They sort of disappear for a second and then re-emerge...

elephantoverthehill · 05/11/2016 23:53

Well get me. I can perambulate, without a perambulator along the esplanade tomorrow. I may take an omnibus back to my destination. However I hope that during my excursion someone is puffing on a fag.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 05/11/2016 23:56

Yes, I get what you mean, Cat. After several hours at work I can probably inhale an entire cigarette in a record breaking 3 seconds so not much perambulating is occurring. I hope I'm not stuck talking in this Pride and prejudice fashion

moreslackthanslick · 05/11/2016 23:56

I agree OP, I also smoke but won't while walking.

Sparklingbrook · 05/11/2016 23:58

My Dad is mid seventies and uses 'uncouth' quite a bit, other than that I have never heard it in RL from anyone younger.

If you are a smoker and you need to be somewhere then I assume you walk and smoke. Confused

NuggetofPurestGreen · 06/11/2016 00:40

Well I prefer multi tasking and like to combine smoking with travelling. Efficiency > uncouthness

GiddyOnZackHunt · 06/11/2016 00:52

Hedda I think couth is an orphaned word like gruntled. We've kept it in its negative but not the positive.

Like on Stars In Their Eyes with Matthew Kelly?

I'm gonna pretend "This week... Saucy is..... Amy Winehouse!" from
now on every time I vape in public.

AndrastesKnickerweasels · 06/11/2016 03:17

Smoking whilst perambulating, whilst not totally couth, is not nearly as uncouth as smoking indoors.

KoalaDownUnder · 06/11/2016 03:27

No, yuck.

I barely ever see anyone smoking around here. And walking down the street smoking is gross. It blows all over everyone.

Has been illegal to smoke in outdoor eating areas for years here. Thank God. Everyone seems to get by just fine.

Where do people live that no one smokes? I see people all the time.

KoalaDownUnder · 06/11/2016 12:22

Nugget Australia.

Smoking is considered v antisocial here.

That makes me want to start calling so I can do this. At present I have to content myself with putting 'Mr Big Stuff ' on my mp3 player and point at bouse as I walk down the street and pretending to be one of the estate agents on homes under the hammer.

gettingbythistime · 06/11/2016 12:46

Gum chewing is worse

Briarthorn · 06/11/2016 12:50

Yes, Stars in their Eyes is exactly what it reminds me of Grin but you need to be a cloud chaser. I'm more of a stealth vaper so it wouldn't work for me...

NuggetofPurestGreen · 06/11/2016 12:50

Oh yes Koala agree, although I found some states are more relaxed than others.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 06/11/2016 12:51

Unless you're Indigenous, Koala. The smoking rate has only just dipped below 40% in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 06/11/2016 12:52

Fewer smokers there too than where I am (Ireland)

NuggetofPurestGreen · 06/11/2016 12:52

God Pubes that's shocking Sad

Gottagetmoving · 06/11/2016 13:01

I wonder where smokers CAN smoke? Seems like only their back gardens? Even then I have seen threads on MN where people have moaned about neighbours smoking in their own garden.
No one I know smokes in their home.

legotits · 06/11/2016 13:08

It's why I love Holland.

Smoking and flowers.

In Amsterdam you can sit INSIDE and smoke a joint.
You can sit on a nice canal side, smoke a fag or joint and enjoy a coffee without people gasping in shock.

Crazy fuckers these Dutch Grin

The best I ever saw was a French lady on the deck of a ferry being grumbled at for smoking by a family with two pushchairs.

Smoking in a public place (was the middle of the channel) mentioned several times while the lady just continued her fag with a dedicated look of sympathy to the family.
