To think that fireworks should be banned from public sale?

It would be nice if people could use them responsibly and reserve their use for the 5th of November and New Years Eve, but around here theyve been going off for weeks and even now as I'm sitting here typing this, as 12.40 in the afternoon some idiot is letting them off in broad daylight. In fact it's been happening all morning! My poor dog is going beserk. I'd like to go around to whoever it is, ram a lit firework up their arse and launch them into space for being such an inconsierate, anti social selfish twat!

They are bloody dangerous in the wrong hands, they cause distress to animals, young children, elderly people, war veterans and people with ASD. How is it possible that anyone over the age of 18 can walk into a shop and buy them?! It's absurd. There is no need for them to be on sale when you can go to an organised display and watch them.

Please can we ban them?

Yadnbu.

By all means have a licence system so Diwali/Guy Fawkes night/weddings stuff can happen, but mostly they are a menace.

If you have a licence system people can be forewarned about explosions in their areas.

It's preposterous the government are apparently so worried about terrorism they can hack our messages, but they still sell incendiaries in the supermarket.

Errrrr - I'm not sure. We bought some this year and let them off in our garden in the 5th. My daughter is far too young to be out at 8pm for the big fireworks display round here and I have a 7 week old son. If we totally banned it - then my daughter would never get to see fireworks. I think it should be allowed if used responsibly and only on the right occasions (not in daylight!). Btw - I have two dogs so I feel your pain, although my dogs couldn't care less about firework sounds, I can sympathise with dogs that do. Smile

She would get to see fireworks - when she is a bit older and able to stay up until 8pm

YANBU

Every year I wonder how many injuries and deaths there are going to be in October/November from these pointless things. Not to mention the effects on animals.

We were on our way to a display and have to pass under some bridges - we have a choice up steps and over one way or under and another - just saying under when some teenagers let of a firework under the bridge and ran off.

We were far enough away so it didn't affect us - and others near by with a dog picked up distressed animal and said they'd call it in - but few minutes earlier we could well have been in it path with our kids.

I'd signed the petition before that incident.

Mine have gone to organised displays from a young age - we warped them up or one of us stopped home with very young baby and took others out. So I can't see an need for fireworks to be on sale to the public.

My main issue is that fireworks are available all year round, and certain communities like to use them to celebrate notable family events. I live in such an area.

This^
Around here people seem to set off fireworks to celebrate a fart.
As impressive as the fart may have been I don't want my daughter woken up by the explosives chosen to celebrate.

Organised displays only and restricted to a certain amount of days.
