DS(2) has been full of a cold for a good few weeks which has turned into a viral infection. We had him at the Drs last night after nursery called saying he was pulling at, poking in and punching his ears. GP said he has red inflamed eardrums and the rash he has is viral too. No antibiotics.

Had planned to take him to a local firework display ran by a friend who owns a firework company. It's at 7.30pm (his bedtime is 7pm). Its a child friendly, low sound display with the louder ones being later in the night. We had planned to take him to the first event and then head home.

We said this morning we would see how he is, he seems ok but very whingy and whiney - who wouldnt be with sore ears?

AIBU to not take him and he can watch out of the window instead? (We live in an apartment 4 floors up).

I think you would be sensible not to take him. I can't imagine loud bangs will help inflamed ear drums, so really I think you would be irresponsible to take him.
I think staying in and seeing them out of the window sounds like a good option. Hope he gets better soon Flowers

Is he your second ds or is he 2yo? At 2, he won't even know he's missing anything. Some of my fondest memories are watching fireworks from the window of a cosy room in our house, snug and warm. It won't be any fun for you either if he's cold and whingey - plus, the cold is awful for poorly ears.

I wouldn't take him.

He's 2, how would he even know he's missing out?

Hope he feels better soon Thanks

He's 2 in age. Glad you think it's the best option.
