To be dreading the US election.

I've never before been too bothered at the outcome of an American election, but this one just fills me with dread. I don't want Trump to get in, I don't want Clinton to get in.

It's just awful, both seem truly awful options, and I'm a bit appalled that a country the size of America couldn't have come up with better than these two.

Trump is awful, he just seems crazy, but Clinton wants to take on Russia and send the world to war. Confused The awful thing is, there's absolutely nothing we can do about it. Is there any light at the end of this tunnel?

Brilliant post dixie

LunaLoveg00d · 03/11/2016 08:10

Yes but potentially you have the situation with Trump in the White House and a Democrat majority in the Senate - so he can spout on all he likes about building a wall and banning Muslims but those policies will never get passed.

Isetan · 03/11/2016 08:19

Both of them should be in prison and the depressing circus will not end whoever gets in. Hilary is damn lucky that she's running against Trump because given her 'couldn't give a damn' arrogance, there's a very good chance that had the RNC elected any of the other 16 candidates (barring 'they're killing babies' Carly what's her face and the whispering neurologist) this wouldn't be a contest.

RoseGoldHippie · 03/11/2016 08:22

If it's any consolation psychic Baba Vanga said the last president of the US would be the 44th and he would be an African American. Enter Barrak from stage right!

Obviously I don't actually believe in her proficies just a friend at work is obsessed so I have to hear about it ALOT! Grin

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 03/11/2016 08:24

rose

Fuck me dont say that Shock

Any minute now trump will be telling us about his african american heritage

Creampastry · 03/11/2016 08:26

They are both dreadful people but I think I'd vote for trump as at least he says what he thinks, rather than Clinton who is devious and a liar.

Hopefully congress will be a strong team!

noego · 03/11/2016 08:34

USA population is something like 330 million, that's 4.5% of the worlds population and all they can come up with is these two. I have to tell you that my American friends are totally embarrassed by the whole thing.

So along with the corporate rape of this world, the democratic process, capitalism, religious fanaticism, and the rest I can't be arsed listing this election can only be the next phase of this worlds implosion.

Sandsnake · 03/11/2016 08:42

I don't want to sound condescending but I think that a lot (not all) of people in the UK have swallowed the negative portrayal of Hillary entirely uncritically. It seems to be the 'correct' view that 'they're both as bad as each other' or that Hillary is the slightly lesser of two evils. I've had conversations with people about the US election where they slate Hillary but when I ask why she is so bad the answers are just so vague. Although, to be honest I can't really blame people as it's not our election so I don't think we have the same duty to be informed as the US electorate do.

I like Hillary. I've always liked Hillary. I think a man (perhaps a hypothetical brother of Bill) with the exact same record as Hillary would have had this wrapped up ages ago. I think there is misogyny at play; a lot of it unconscious. She's not perfect but to claim that she is in any way comparable to the sexist, racist, narcissistic, lying bastard that is Trump is laughable.

Sandsnake · 03/11/2016 08:54

Just read Dixie's post - absolutely bang on. How Trump can claim to be an advocate of the working class is beyond me. The other day he was banging on about how 'rigged' the 'system' was - the same system which has helped to put him in a position of massive unearned privilege.

Wookiecookies · 03/11/2016 09:05

Just hearing (albeit on Fox so not sure how reliable) that top FBI agents are pushing to Indict Hillary asap over the Pay to Play allegations regarding the Clinton foundation!

What would this mean if it happened before the election? Or is this not possible in the timescale? (Pardon my ignorance regarding due process in american politics/legal system here) Is it possible the election could be halted?

It seems to get crazier every day, if it wasnt so damn terrifying it would be hilarious. Confused

Does Anyone have any insight into this? It seems to

Wookiecookies · 03/11/2016 09:06

Excuse the last sentence error there...

Wookiecookies · 03/11/2016 09:14

Also for any Americans here, whats the deal with the Trump child rape case? I believe its a civil case not a criminal one correct?

I have heard some say that, that is because of the statute of limitations so the plaintiff has no choice but to pursue it in a civil court, but I have also seen others say that there is NO statute of limitations on child sex abuse questions...

Does anyone know which is true?

Wookiecookies · 03/11/2016 09:15

Sorry... not questions, cases.

Vanga said the last president of the US would be the 44th and he would be an African American. Enter Barrak from stage right!
That's a scary prediction. What if this is correct, that means we won't get either Clinton or Trump.

AlexaTwoAtT · 03/11/2016 09:29

Trump is an uneducated boor, to say the least. Whatever people might think about Clinton, at least she has intellectual ability.
As others have said, the President cannot make unilateral decisions.

savedbythebell · 03/11/2016 09:34

I'm scared about Baba's prediction now. It seems very accurate.

birdybirdywoofwoof · 03/11/2016 09:50

Oh dear.

I think 2016 may well go down in history as the year the West decides democracy ain't all that.

newyorker74 · 03/11/2016 09:53

Winchesterwoman. You know there are photos of her with then mayor guiliani in nyc after 9/11 right? Ones that were all over the place after he said he didn't remember her being there? That man is vile.

JellyBelli · 03/11/2016 09:56

I feel as sick about the USA election as I did about Brexit. It terrifies me that the USA cant find 2 good candidates with a clean past.

Democracy is not the problem with the system. The USA doesnt want to fund education or state benefits, so only one type of person has access to that level of power. How they can claim to be a classless society is beyond me.

MrsGwyn · 03/11/2016 11:00

South Park has been amazingly on point about the whole thing.
