Giving lifts to people you don't know very well

I was on a hen weekend heavily pregnant. The bride asked me would I give her mum and aunts a lift home when we were goin home. This would be 40 mins out of my way on top of the two hour drive. I said no because the brides SIL who was also there with her car had been asked ages ago and agreed but she wasn't happy about doing it. I also did not want to be stuck in a car for two hours with people I didn't know very well. I wasn't rude I just explained I was not going straight home and wanted to do a few things on my way. I'm just wondering WIBU as the guilt is getting to me. I really feel the brides SIL should be the one driving her MIL home as she's family.

Well yes it really is up to them to sort their lifts home - you were not being unreasonable.

YANBU OP. 40 mins out of your way to ferry several people you don't know but who do know each other is a big ask. Why did SIL renege on the arrangement?

If it makes you feel any better, I left a social engagement early yesterday because I didn't want it to come up in conversation that I was going to town X, as my friend and I had been joined by two individuals of dubious appearance and smell who'd mentioned that they were planning to head there. I'm normally quite generous about lifts, but I do draw the line at smelly fuckers somewhere.

A lift that takes you 40 minutes out of your way is borderline pisstaking even for someone you know. At the very least an offer of petrol money should be forthcoming.
