to think some women get it SO WRONG when trying to look younger

I am not anti-plastic surgery at all. I find it all very interesting. However, I constantly see examples of women who in trying to look younger, do the opposite. I was reading this and the DM claims that people think she is the sister of her daughters. She is 39 but if you scroll down, particularly to the last pic, she looks significantly older.

  • cascades of peroxide blonde hair extensions
  • ginormous boobs
  • over-inflated lips
  • PVC miniskirt.

I think all of the above makes you look older. If you want to look 25, then dress like a 25 year old. And have surgery (if you must) to look like you did at 25, not like a Bratz doll.

Sorry. Just had to get that out of my system Grin.

I need to work out how to get the Fail to give me a load of free publicity. Her phone must be ringing off the hook today.

Philoslothy · 29/10/2016 12:01

The article is about a woman, so the comments are about a female. Another article or thread will be about a man, so the comments will be about a male

These articles do mostly if not always seem to be about women though. There are some very cruel comments on this thread , I hope that she doesn't read it. Although I admit that the comments on the Mail article are probably worse.

ALemonyPea · 29/10/2016 12:02

She looked so much prettier before the work.

Reminded me of the mother and daughter who've had a ridiculous amount of work done.

Do they genuinely think they look good, or do they have body dysmorphia.

2kids2dogsnosense · 29/10/2016 12:05

Strawberry
^On the other hand it's also possible to dress young and look fab.
Really admired an older (about 60) ladies outfit the other day and would have liked it for myself (28)...she wearing dark jeans, slouchy leather boots, a teal slouchy jumper, long dangly necklace, jacket and red leather rucksack....she looked a lot more stylish than I did that day. Her hair was up in a chignon type thing and was a bit brown and bit salt and pepper.^

That, as you so rightly say - is STYLE! You have it, or you don't (but I do believe that you can learn it, but like any other skill it takes effort).

That ghastly woman in the paper looks HORRIFIC! She looks a damn sight older than 39 in a lot of those pictures - and if people are pretending that she looks like her daughters' sister, they are either men trying to get into her probably split-crotch knickers, or gobsmacked women trying to be polite Actually she probably pre-empts it "Don't you think we look like sisters? (collagen grin). "Er . . . yes. Yes you do . . . look like . . . sisters" (wondering if there's a Cinderella panto in town).

It must be humiliating and embarrassing for her children - she's obviously trying to compete with the girls, and her older son at least, will have some comments to deal with - especially after her "soft porn" pictures in the Wail.

There's nothing wrong with looking your age - better be a smart-looking 40 year old than an obviously nipped, tucked, bottomed and desperate-looking one.

2kids2dogsnosense · 29/10/2016 12:09

LemonyPea

they think they look like Katie Price, they are sadly deluded.

Katie Price, whatever else may be said of her - is very, very pretty. She was before her plastic age, and she remains so (even if somewhat out of proportion),

FurryLittleTwerp · 29/10/2016 12:09

She looked gorgeous before having anything done. She could pass for late 50s I reckon.

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 29/10/2016 12:11

If it's looking young she aspires to, the opposite effect has been achieved. She looks like a hag.
As for the right-on types here on Mumsnet, do they know something about her that the rest of posters do not? They are screeching indignantly about her issues - which, of course, they know nothing whatsoever about.
And yes, she must have approached the press. (I really hate when people say the Fail...)

2kids2dogsnosense · 29/10/2016 12:11

Gosh, I'm 38 and I never realised knees took on a certain look in the late 30s!

Just checked mine "Olives".

They look like angry babies. Grin

leaveittothediva · 29/10/2016 12:21

She doesn't look younger than 39 years, she looks way older, and definitely looks better with clothes on, but her face has the classic plastic surgery look. Looking permanently alarmed. Totally unnatural. Her children are beautiful. I think she may have issues.

instantly · 29/10/2016 12:26

I presume you mean she looks 'loose' or 'easy'? Correct me if I'm wrong, but why should a woman's sexuality be presumed on by how she chooses to dress, or have or show her body?

The woman is wearing crotchless knickers ffs! Yes, crotchless knickers make you look "loose or easy"!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 29/10/2016 12:29

Not a very nice thread. It's moved away from the OP a bit into a bitching session about what women look like. Par for the course I suppose and it's no wonder that women have such a reputation as bitches.

Honestly, do you really care what another woman looks like? I really can't understand it. I notice what other women wear and, if something catches my eye positively then I'll make a mental note of it to see if that would suit me too. Generally though, nothing that women wear is remarkable and I don't notice or remark on it.

Where this thread is becoming bitchy is that it's now specifically about styles, clothes, looks, etc. - all or any of which any poster here might have. Do you ever think about that? That you're possibly insulting posters here because they don't 'fit in' with what YOU think is what they should be fitting in with? How pathetic.

There's a current parent thread active at the moment and posters there are saying that, "If you're confident in your own parenting then what others do doesn't matter". And that is exactly right. Same rules apply here... so there must be an awful lot of very insecure women on this thread who have nothing better to do than pick holes in other women - and are so needy as to crave validation for it.

There are some nice posts in between, smiling at the post above me about knees looking like 'angry babies' - but posts like that are being drowned out with discontented bile from others.

I've said it before; patriarchy has nothing to fear from women. Nothing.

QuietNinjaTardis · 29/10/2016 12:31

Lemonypea, so the daughter is basically prostituting herself to pay for her mums and her own surgery? What sort of parent is happy with that? And their lips look awful. More gobsmacked by that article than the one in the op!

blitheringbuzzards1234 · 29/10/2016 12:33

Oh dear. I think it's incredibly self-obsessed and sad to spend so much time and money to look like this - a plastic porn star.

We live in an age when youth and obvious sexiness is all the rage, after all we women aren't merely a pair of breasts with a person tacked on. It feeds on all that's worst in the young obsession with sex.

There's more dignity in growing up and growing out of this - but where does dignity get you? Many of we oldies don't want to look like a grey old lady with a tight perm and pearls either - there must be a tasteful middle ground somewhere.

blitheringbuzzards1234 · 29/10/2016 12:41

Oh, and I must ask who are the ghastly plastic surgeons who are saying yes to giving someone a ridiculously large pair of breasts? The surgeons who ruined the looks of Michael Jackson, Donatella Versace, et al?

Why don't they say no to this 'treatment' and suggest they visit a decent psychiatrist instead? Someone who can sort out the unhappiness some of them must have about their bodies, but of course in this topsy-turvy world you can get anything you want as long as you can pay for it.

NicknameUsed · 29/10/2016 13:12

I agree blithering. And surely it can't be good for their reputation if all they do is turn people into caricatures. I wonder if they are really proud of their work.

Revealall · 29/10/2016 13:13

I didn't think she looked too bad actually. What is horrible is the self obsessed vanity.
I think that's what really puts people off whether it be cosmetic procedures or body beautifuls honing their six packs or the picky eaters.

I don't have a problem with people criticising her sexuality. She is choosing to projecti an image by wearing what she does. You can be sexy at any age but the most sexy are those comfortable in their own skin and with other people.
Clearly medallion men, short skirts on older women etc are people not comfortable with who they are.

MythicalChicken · 29/10/2016 18:42

How to look younger:

  1. Stay out of the sun and away from sunbeds.
  2. Do not smoke.
  3. Eat a healthy, balanced diet.
  4. Keep slim.
  5. Do some toning exercise such as yoga or Pilates.
  6. Wear clothes that young people wear.
  7. Have hairstyles/hair color that young people have.
  8. Mosturise, moisturise, moisturise.

There seems to be a belief that being overtly sexual makes you look younger. It doesn't - it makes you look old and sad.

These women aggravate me because i think they are terrible parents and terrible role models.

TheWoodlander · 29/10/2016 22:18

I think there are so many beautiful older women that we can emulate - Helen Mirren, Michelle Pfeiffer, Barbara Hershey, Monica Belluci. I don't know why "looking young" should be equated with "looking like a porn star." Except that it's the Daily Fail, of course.

WanderingTrolley1 · 29/10/2016 22:51

Perfectly put, Mythical.
