To think Toby Young deserves scorn for this article?

Apologies for linking to the Daily Mail, but I've used a service that denies them advertising revenue: <a class="break-all" href="https://anonym.to/?www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-3869182/Why-Lefties-misty-eyed-movie-romanticises-Benefits-Britain-says-TOBY-YOUNG.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">anonym.to/?www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-3869182/Why-Lefties-misty-eyed-movie-romanticises-Benefits-Britain-says-TOBY-YOUNG.html

Aside from the basic errors (it's 100minutes long, not nearly 3 hours), it's just an awful article. The fact that Toby Young thinks everyone claiming benefits is a smoking/gambling/drinking loudmouth is just offensive. I'm shocked - not that it was published - but that he thinks his opinion is the opinion of everyone.

I'd love to see him survive on benefits. I wonder if he'd be saying the same things then?

By the way Folks, do bear in mind it's half term and Quorn only seems to have appeared over the last week. Check out some of his/her other posts. Hmm

graphista · 26/10/2016 23:28

So noted dawndonna thanks

Quorn that post was deeply offensive and cruel.

And you have a strange idea on democracy, it refers to how our public representatives are elected, but it also refers to a system intended to be fair and where those representatives do what is right for the common good. Ie not just that which is popular.

Dawndonnaagain · 26/10/2016 23:28

Untrue, it costs twice as much to train two people to do the job designed for one. FYI I am not having a go at you personally, just engaging in the comments made, I hope you don't think I am being nasty about you, I am NOT.
The person will already have been trained. In case you are unaware it takes four years to train a teacher and considerably more time to reach HOY status. You are being nasty, you're not engaging with the questions on the thread, you are singling out remarks unrelated to the thread and putting people on the defensive.

smallfox2002 · 26/10/2016 23:30

Its Ok guys, she isn't that much of a challenge and is obviously working herself up into her right wing tizzy.

I've just read the whole thread and now I'm very confused.
I hate Toby Young and everything he stands for I'm clear on that
But why are people having a go at bowie??
She does so much to help people and my hat is off to her.

BoinkAlongQuietly · 26/10/2016 23:45

But why are people having a go at bowie??
Because people can be twats. Especially during half term. Ahem.

graphista · 26/10/2016 23:48

Mrskeats I suspect the people having a go at Bowie are doing so for a number of reasons

1 they see the poor/sick as beneath them
2 contrarily they also feel guilt/shame for not doing more themselves, confusing until you consider cognitive dissonance

smallfox2002 · 26/10/2016 23:50
  1. Its half term and Quorn is bored because she has no friends.
Corialanusburt · 26/10/2016 23:55

So who in the know knows he's an arse?

Mrskeats · 26/10/2016 23:56

Lol ok thanks
Thought I was going mad there for a bit (even more than usual)
That article has made me so angry. What the hell would that twat know about being poor or ill?
TY can go on my list along with Rod Liddle, Julie Burchill, Micheal Gove, Boris Johnson, Piers Morgan, that awful Patel woman, Nigel Farage and his cronies etc etc of people that are going straight to the Tower when I'm queen Grin

Quorn must be year 12 at least !

However, why are not allowed to express an opinion that is not Centre left or far left politically , without having insults posted towards you !

These threads are often just a monotone 'rant' about the Government, without any form of defence .

If you just want a one sided view go ahead , because you can all go and convince yourself that your views are shared by everybody but racists, sexists and right wing loons.

This is why 'Brexit' happened because posters on here closed down any debate or views not aligned to their own.

This is not democracy ...

Everyone has a right to reply with their views as long as they are not racist sexist or promote violence.

Therefore to gang up on a single poster because they believe something different is just 'bullying'.

I was earlier asked if i was a Daily Mail poster because my view of a film was not that it was the greatest artistic piece of work ever.

Quornflakes · 27/10/2016 00:08

Posters here are very set in their opinion, facts are irrelevant, its scary. I wont be posting again because the group hatred will get me banned. I was trying to give a counter balance to the op ...

If you really belief their is a genuine grievance then you wont make progress by just denigrating legitimate comment. Good luck but your pissing in the wind because your only interested in banning genuine comment.

smallfox2002 · 27/10/2016 00:14

However, why are not allowed to express an opinion that is not Centre left or far left politically , without having insults posted towards you !"

I believe Quorn was the one who started that, have you actually read how she addressed others?

"This is why 'Brexit' happened because posters on here closed down any debate or views not aligned to their own."

The brexit debate threads here prior to the vote were full of pro leave posters who promptly vanished the day after the vote. Those of us still here have carried on the debate but the problem with many posters who backed leave is that they struggle to offer reasons for their vote, or the ones they do offer are often very based on the post truth leave campaign.

"Therefore to gang up on a single poster because they believe something different is just 'bullying'."

So when people do it to me what is it? Because frankly lots of the more right wing posters do it regularly, twice in two days I've been called a liar and worse by a number of different posters for having the temerity to offer a factually based, referenced opinion.

Its not bullying, if your going to come here and give it out, you have to expect to take it too. Its called being robust.

You are allowed to have different political views, but in threads that are devoted to a bit of debate you have to be able to offer reasoned justification for them.

smallfox2002 · 27/10/2016 00:17

"facts are irrelevant"

As all of your posts are based on anecdote, and the actual FACTS that I posted you accused me of lying about were true, I consider this fairly ironic.

You're not going to post again because you can't justify your attacks on bowie,

"If you really belief their is a genuine grievance then you wont make progress by just denigrating legitimate comment. Good luck but your pissing in the wind because your only interested in banning genuine comment."

No one has attempted to ban you, or report you, your attack on Bowie is still there. I'm interested to see why you think your comments are legitimate because as proved your remark about me being a liar wasn't.

You don't want to come back to comment because you can't justify yourself.

Maybe get your 6th form to do the Critical Thinking A level, it would help you a bit .

graphista · 27/10/2016 01:33

Several threads on a variety of subjects are very robustly debated from both sides but in my opinion personal comments on a posters health are out of order.

Hirosleaftunnel · 27/10/2016 02:15

But it's ok to call me subhuman for choosing to not pay tax in the U.K.? I pay tax where I am, no democracy here though so people don't get to decide how it's spent. When you live outside the UK, you realise just how generous the regime is, even with 'cuts'. But he usual suspects have taken over this thread and now it's just meh.

graphista · 27/10/2016 02:31

I have lived outside the UK and the countries I lived in had better care of their citizens. It was a shock to return to the UK. Maybe 'subhuman' is a step too far but I think people were reacting to WHY you didn't want to pay UK taxes (ie so benefits 'scroungers' like me don't get their hands on your money - your opinion not mine)

Hirosleaftunnel · 27/10/2016 02:38

the

smallfox2002 · 27/10/2016 03:58

No one said it was on to call you sub humanavigation did they?

smallfox2002 · 27/10/2016 04:00

Oh I hadn't realised you were part of the benefits bashing narrative.

When you've lived in other countries other than the UK and you realise how generous heir benefits both in and out of work are you wonder about that.

ComfortingKormaBalls · 27/10/2016 07:54

graphista - B - they're (Tories) currently being investigated for election fraud by I think at last count 11 police forces dont forget Labour on your examples:

Labour councillors on Derby City Council this week voted against measures to combat electoral fraud

A Labour parliamentary candidate has been suspended after being convicted of fraud, the party has confirmed.

Labour has been fined £20,000 by the Electoral Commission for failing to declare all of its general election expenses - including the 'Ed'stone tablet unveiled during the campaign
