To ask you who actually buys Garibaldis?

In the staff room today there was a severe biscuit shortage and by the time I got in for a brew, there were only Garibaldis left.

These have surely got to be the worst 'biscuits' of all time? They're basically just cardboard with some currants in them. They remind me of going to my grandma's house circa 1983 where she always had a packet open that never seemed to actually deplete.

Who is buying these things? Oh, and what would you prefer to a Garibaldi? I'm partial to a nice Ginger nut, myself.

The rich tea buttered and sandwiched together....

That's reminded me that sometimes my Mum would make biscuit sandwiches, custard creams sliced through the middle between slices of buttered bread, or rich tea with a blob of jam between buttered bread.
It must have been when she had no cake, and she used to make it sound like a real treat, bless her, which in an odd way, it was.

Floweringcactus · 25/10/2016 08:31

I love garibaldi and fig rolls. My mum never bought them so they were a treat at my grand house. I need that garibaldi recipe! My gran used to eat buttered digestives! I'd forgotten that!

Floweringcactus · 25/10/2016 08:32

Haha! Gran's house. We didn't have a grand house.

MiddleAgeMiddleEngland · 25/10/2016 08:41

They're not my favourite but I quite like them, as well as fig rolls. DH loves both.

At my aunt's care home they seem to have garibaldi biscuits every day. Presumably they get eaten or they'd buy something else. They also have those pink wafer biscuits which look vile.

Racheyg · 25/10/2016 08:48

Please stop all I can't think of is a nice cup of coffee with lots and lots of biscuits.

Racheyg · 25/10/2016 08:49

Ps I love garibaldis

Allalonenow · 25/10/2016 09:51

Buttered digestives....
I'm partial to plain chocolate digestives with blue cheese, but that is a whole new thread! Halloween Grin

Garibaldis aren't called fly cemeteries!!!

These are!

I like Garlibaldis, and fly cemeteries!

To ask you who actually buys Garibaldis?
Floweringcactus · 25/10/2016 10:04

Garibaldis are squashed fly biscuits.

BowieFan · 25/10/2016 11:51

It's a good job I love DP, because I'd have left him over his biscuit opinions otherwise. He told me last night he thinks Garibaldis are "lovely" and we "should get some in" - I had to stop myself from being sick.

Mind you, he thinks Rich Tea are the nicest biscuits, so what does he know?

Also - lemon puffs, butter biscuits, rich tea, and malted milks

What happened to Lemon Puffs? I never see them!
I love Garibaldis. They are a bit dry so I have to have them with tea...but they are lovely.

cosmicglittergirl · 25/10/2016 12:35

I used to call Garibaldis 'fly cemeteries' and fruit shortcakes 'dead fly biscuits'

halcyondays · 25/10/2016 12:38

I like them , nobody else in the house does, so as a bonus I get to eat them all myself!

Cherylene · 25/10/2016 12:53

Yes - rich tea are Very Nice with butter Grin

Cherylene · 25/10/2016 12:55

I think there are many fly cemeteries, including Eccles cakes and Chorley cakes.

There were probably a lot of flies around before they invented those ultra-violet light things Hmm.....

BowieFan · 25/10/2016 13:02

Well done Cherylene now I want a Chorley cake! I haven't craved one of them in years!

I like garibaldis! In fact I like all biscuits except for ginger nuts which I despise. Bleugh!

I do like ginger in other things - just not biscuits

BowieFan · 25/10/2016 13:32

I love a ginger nut. I couldn't eat a packet of them but they're a nice change now and again. My son is mad about Hovis biscuits for some reason - I just don't get that, there's no flavour to them at all!

I love a Garibaldi!

My mum used to buy them "because they were slimming". Apparently they were on weight watchers list of permitted biscuits or something.

I think they are relatively low calorie for a biscuit.

Cherylene · 25/10/2016 14:02

Ah Bowie - Chorley cakes are Really Nice with butter on too Grin

Maybe it will improve Garibaldis? The currants are nice, but the biscuits themselves are very dry and cardboardy.

Allalonenow · 25/10/2016 17:41

I've put Garibaldis on my shopping list now, they must be healthy with all those currants, at least three of your five a day per pack of biscuits, fig rolls must be the same. Halloween Grin

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 27/10/2016 10:09

Triple bugger!
Was just about to buy a pack of Garibaldis and some fig rolls and they both have palm oil, so that's no good.
Sod it.
