To ask you who actually buys Garibaldis?

In the staff room today there was a severe biscuit shortage and by the time I got in for a brew, there were only Garibaldis left.

These have surely got to be the worst 'biscuits' of all time? They're basically just cardboard with some currants in them. They remind me of going to my grandma's house circa 1983 where she always had a packet open that never seemed to actually deplete.

Who is buying these things? Oh, and what would you prefer to a Garibaldi? I'm partial to a nice Ginger nut, myself.

Pinkie, that's not a Garibaldi!

Gazelda · 24/10/2016 18:47

I had a packet last week. Crumbs remain in the car 😳

BowieFan · 24/10/2016 18:47

PinkiePiesCupcakes

Those are fruit shortcake! (Lovely)

These vile things are Garibaldis...

I didn't know you could still buy them either, by the way, but I imagine the person who brought them in was the same person who brought in Mellow Bird's Coffee a couple of months ago. I hadn't heard of that since about 1986!

Bourbon... lower tier... ?!?

No no no, you must be mistaken.

Top tier definitely.

spidey66 · 24/10/2016 18:50

That second pic's a fruit shortcake, not a garibaldi.

PinkiePiesCupcakes · 24/10/2016 18:50

They're the Garibaldi's I remember, the sand which sort are the posh type for rich folk. Grin

Lazybeans50 · 24/10/2016 18:50

When I use to provide tea and biscuits for volunteers we used to buy them from time to time to mixed things up a bit. They were surprisingly popular (along with lemon puffs and fig rolls). I think it because there's a bit more substance than the average biscuit.

SafariOrigami · 24/10/2016 18:52

That picture does NOT show a garabaldi - that is a fruit shortcake (dead fly biscuits)
Garabaldis are rectangular and almost cracker like with lots of fruit and no sugar on top

Allalonenow · 24/10/2016 18:53

That picture is more a fruit shortcake than a garibaldi. Garibaldis are oblong and layered with the currants in the middle, sandwich like, they used to be a sort of slab that you broke into fingers.
Though it's years since I've had one, they used to be a favourite when I was a child.

SafariOrigami · 24/10/2016 18:54

Ah! I see the thread had moved along - the most recent pic is DEF a garibaldi!

PinkiePiesCupcakes · 24/10/2016 18:54

And you know what? I've literally just doiscovered that they aren't Garibaldi's at all, I'm 37.... I've always called them Garibaldi's be cause that's what my dad called them. Hell, I even found that picture by googling Garibaldi Biscuit... Turns out thast they are fruit shortcake biscuits...

My whole life is a lie... If he lied about that, what else did he lie about? Is he even my father? Sad

Still there's always Biscuit Grin

WildDigestive · 24/10/2016 18:55

They're more comprehensible than revolting fig rolls, which always taste stale and disgustingly squidgy in the middle.

BowieFan · 24/10/2016 18:56

LazyBeans50

YOU CAN STILL BUY LEMON PUFFS?! WHERE? DIRECT ME TO THIS PLACE.

Now they are the nectar of the Gods!

My DS2 loves fig rolls. I always sigh when I have to buy them for him. I just don't get it. Biscuits shouldn't have fruit in them, it negates the whole point of a biscuit! I want my biscuits to be buttery and so sweet that you could actually rot teeth with them, thank you very much.

FurryLittleTwerp · 24/10/2016 19:00

I love fig rolls - we have them with the tea halfway through choir practise. Never bought them though. I like Garibaldis too, but have never bought those either.

Both were regulars at teatime at my Nana's.

SafariOrigami · 24/10/2016 19:01

My dd loves fig rolls too. But so do me and dh.
I love those fruit shortcake biscuits but not so gone on the real deal, they are a bit plain (not enough sugar!)

I like lots of those old fashioned biscuits - lemon puffs, fig rolls, nice (with the coconut and sugar), malted milk, digestives, rich tea - all lovely with a cup of tea.

I am not keen on the newer huge 'cookie' style ones

helpimitchy · 24/10/2016 19:03

We love them. And fig rolls Blush

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 24/10/2016 19:03

I've never bought them in my life (I don't even think I've seen them in the supermarket Hmm) but whenever I have eaten someone else's I have loved them! I just always forget about them until the next time someone offers me one.

Allalonenow · 24/10/2016 19:03

Ah don't take it to heart Pinkie, have a plain chocolate Hobnob to cheer yourself up.

What I like best about Garibaldis is that they are named for the man himself.

Maudlinmaud · 24/10/2016 19:07

As a child my parents usually only had this type of shit biscuit, it was probably a ploy so we wouldn't devour them all.
On the rare occasion they had something actually edible they hid them on top of the kitchen cabinets. But worry not, we found them Grin

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 24/10/2016 19:09

Not me, because I can eat a whole strip in one go...

Ptarmigandancinginthegloaming · 24/10/2016 19:10

Pinky pies - I was moved by your sad tale - but you're right, u need to confront this man immediately about the terrible deception (or he may just have got a bit confused ;-) ).

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 24/10/2016 19:10

Dh and my dses like Garibaldi's, no idea why, they are revolting things that have no right to call themselves a biscuit!

My biscuit of choice needs a bit of fuss about it, chocolate coated or buttery shortcake. I can't be doing with a utilitarian biscuit.

Hedgehog80 · 24/10/2016 19:11

Fucking hate garibaldis

Last time I had then I was 18 and had just got back from hospital after being forced to have a termination in the second trimester. DM made me lie on a mat on the floor have me tea and garibaldis and made her 'good news' phonecalls to a couple of people within earshot of me that "it's done"

If I see them in the shops I actually vomit
