Like the title says, why is it a ptoblem if a user name changes on here? Or why do some posters have issues with certain usernames? Please enlighten me and can't work it out...😊

If you upset everyone under one name just change it and do it all over again under another. Easy.

Does that happen much? Does it happen at all?

I can remember one or two famous PBPs trolls who upset a lot of people at once ('everyone' i guess) but they'd be dealt with as PBPs trolls anyway so the NC thing doesn't really apply.

What else have I missed?

Thingvellir · 25/10/2016 10:23

I changed once when I got my arse handed to me on a plate (rightfully so)Blush. But since the hacking now change quite regularly nn and more often, pw

I've been curious about the user12345764357644s for a while - are they all single use names? Gets confusing on a thread with a few of them all referring to each other as user!

Sparklingbrook · 25/10/2016 13:57

I think it happens Man. Quite a lot.

Manumission · 25/10/2016 14:16

I miss all the interesting stuff Grin

I always name change, at least twice a month. Because you can put a few different things together and recognise someone.

For example - Ghostyslovesheep. I recognise you from Bounty. Sameish username, quite identifiable and the stuff you post on MN is the same as on Bounty. I could tell you your name, rough age, your dd's names and approx ages, the history of your marriage, where (roughly) you live and what you do for a job. I've even seen a photo of you (from Bounty).

I promise I am NOT a stalker. I haven't 'tried' to find any of this out (and sorry Ghostys, you were just a handy example). Sometimes though someone pops up regularly on the same threads as you and I have a weird memory for pointless facts sticking especially when I see the same username over and over.

I find that (the fact that I know that info) ^ quite scary considering i'm pretty sure Ghostys would have no idea who I am. Of course you might not mind...but I would feel very very uncomfortable with someone 'recognising' me on here.

Well illustrated Giddy. The whole 'NCers are dodgy bastards' schtick does get old.

I knew there was al reason you mention your car so much under that name navy 🙂

ilovesooty · 25/10/2016 15:57

Ghosty has mentioned what she does for a job quite frequently.

Sparklingbrook · 25/10/2016 18:02

Not all namechangers are 'dodgy bastards'. But they do have the upper hand quite a lot.

I think it's the name changing and ability to here which makes people so nasty - the anonymity makes it easier for them. Of course the MN royalty keep their name so people will 'recognise' them here. On other forum(s) I use, there's no name changing and no stupid fear of 'being outed' and there's a real community spirit and people are much more pleasant, much less confrontational and much more likely to offer (and receive) help in RL. I think the fear of being outed is because no one would want to be known as their obnoxious MN alter-ego.

If you have this level of apparent dislike for pretty much everyone here, why would you hang around?

I've chnaged my name a couple of times because I've eventually posted so many identifying things I could be recognised with a really cursory search.

RentANDBills · 25/10/2016 20:22

I NC regularly. I'm an oldie too, been on here years and years and had threads in Classics and Round Ups [smug alert Grin]

It was quite nice to be recognised but as someone up thread said, its being recognised in RL that's a worry. I've posted some personal stuff I wouldn't want to share with my boss, for example, who I know is on here and I think the dots could be joined quite easily.

I left Mumsnet for about a year when it got really bitchy and then returned new username which I now change when the mood strikes me.
Not a troll, nor a goady fucker.

aquashiv · 25/10/2016 20:30

Why do people announce they have nc' ed...I dont understand that?

Manumission · 25/10/2016 20:37

You mean people posting under a brand new NN for privacy? So that they don't get suspicion about being a GF/PBP. Of course anyone could say that.

YorkieDorkie · 25/10/2016 20:40

People announce that they have NC because they want everyone to know that they are a regular on MN and not a troll. I.e. If you checked the history of the new username it wouldn't be there so people might call troll if it's a particularly "out there" topic.
