Like the title says, why is it a ptoblem if a user name changes on here? Or why do some posters have issues with certain usernames? Please enlighten me and can't work it out...😊

OP posts:

I haven't seen MaryZ for ages - I think she's on craicnet but she got pissed off with the Goady Fuckery that was going on before
but we know how much Maryz loves a good christmas thread so she'll probably be on here soon.

Fortitudine · 24/10/2016 10:23

I've never name changed on here but have on another well known forum. It was actually their fault that I had to - my "dilemma" was chosen as the post of the week without my knowledge and emailed to their millions of subscribers. Unfortunately It was very outing and because of what it detailed could have put me in danger. I felt physically sick when I saw it. I begged them to remove it, and thankfully they did, and I received an apology from the site founder. It made me much more careful about what I reveal - I will change details to protect a situation if you see what I mean.

Lweji · 24/10/2016 10:23

So name-changing produces trolls but keeping your name means you're a narcissistic 'mumsnet celebrity'? Not easy to win under your system! But of course it's everyone else who's nasty...

This.

I've changed once or twice, for very private topics.
I'm sure anyone who knows me would have recognised me, but I can't be arsed.

The idea of not changing because of royalty is funny.

ClaudiaWankleman · 24/10/2016 10:30

There is no 'royalty' here anymore anyway. Since the influx of new members post penis beaker etc the site has become too diverse.

Thornrose · 24/10/2016 10:35

We should all do Christmas name changes usual before Halloween! Shock that should get her back. [festivegrin]

ghostyslovesheep · 24/10/2016 10:41

changed my name one for Halloween (from Gordy to Ghosty) to lazy to change it back

I am not royalty not do I give a shit if people think their is some reason for it beyond not wanting to hide repeatedly behind new names

PortiaCastis · 24/10/2016 10:41

I'd change my name but can't remember my sodding password so I'll just have to be me but then I am me so not bothered one way or t' other.

ComfortingKormaBalls · 24/10/2016 10:47

The only name I recognise is Sparklingbrook

MissHooliesCardigan · 24/10/2016 11:00

Can I be a really obscure member of MN Royalty like Brigitte, Duchess of Gloucester?

Gowgirl · 24/10/2016 11:07

Can I have a tiara? Pretty please!!!!!

MissHooliesCardigan · 24/10/2016 11:13

Gowgirl only if I get to wear a totally ridiculous hat.

GrinchyMcGrincherson · 24/10/2016 11:17

I name change regularly just for funsies. People who know me can probably identify me in about 0.4 seconds but I don't say things on here I wouldn't say irl so it doesn't really bother me.

Sparklingbrook · 24/10/2016 11:19

to not understand issue with name changing on mn? why is it a problem??
GrinchyMcGrincherson · 24/10/2016 11:19

I think a big reason for frequent name changes is because MN make it very very easy to pull up a users entire posting history despite the vastness of the site. On Most other forums I've used it would require lots of faffing.

Rachel0Greep · 24/10/2016 11:23

I have name changed a couple of times, for no good reason. Just because I can. Grin
I don't think I have ever been controversial on here - or in real life. Sad Wink

Soupandasandwich · 24/10/2016 11:49

I name change whenever I think I might have given enough info to make me recognisable IRL. I don't often post about sensitive areas of my life, but I do have a name I use for that. I don't have any reason to believe that any of my family are on here, but I'd rather not take chances.
Name change to be unkind? Not on.

magimedi · 24/10/2016 11:55

61 days & 12 hours until Christmas

That should get Maryz here.........................

ilovesooty · 24/10/2016 12:51

Bah humbug Grin

paintedorpapered · 25/10/2016 09:34

I'd say name changing is important for MN, trolling is just an unfortunate side effect.
I don't personnally say anything in a debate I wouldn't say face to face, so in that sense name changing is irrelevant- but a lot of the discussion here is far more intimate. Who is going to ask for help about anything embarassing, or downright serious, if they can be identified from the thread about original Christmas decorations? And it would be a shame if people felt they couldn't join a thread describing their decorations or posting pictures of their cat, just because last week they needed help with their piles. With name changing we don't need to choose a camp, it keeps things far more open.

60 days, 14 hours...........................

Thornrose · 25/10/2016 09:57

Omg the OP is sickly orange! I swear it wasn't yesterday!

ImAMoving · 25/10/2016 10:01

I NC a minimum of once a month, sometimes weekly. For every new life problem I NC, as I have a shedlkad of unique crap going on that I'd be identifyabke if someone put it all together and accused of no-one being that unlucky by some if they searched.

Didncause MNHQ a bit of a headache when I was one of the hacked and they had to go and delete under every username! Sorry!

I dislike the posters troll hunting saying "oh, and by the way welcome to MN" if someone has NC for anonymity. Goady fucktwits.

If there was ever anything that put all our NC under one name, I'd be screwed.

ImAMoving · 25/10/2016 10:07

P.s. I've just counted and have had 102 different usernames. I do not want to be and never want to be "known" on here. MN is invaluable for advice about everything and the support is unbelievable. It works. I don't want to see a post counter either, often the most distressing post will be the first post as you have sort out help on the internet/looked for a forum for advice. Your first post isn't going to be "today I liked the weather" it's going to be "holy shit I'm pregnant" , "help I need sleep", "I think he's sleeping with the au pair" etc etc
