Does anyone have this problem? I have a 3yo female cat
It wants to be with me every waking and asleep moment. If I am asleep it will do everything humanely (or feline) possibly to be near me, touch me and make me touch it.
Which is sweet but this also involves shower/bath/toilet and it will not be shut out of a room, it becomes anxious and scratches and howls.
I love her but her need for contact is driving me insane. It's just me, not the kids she does it to. And I have another cat and she is just jealous of that one.

I'm living a real life crazy cat lady life here Confused

Our cat was a bit like this, v demanding. She's chilled out a lot more since we got second cat though (he's v passive and gentle so she doesn't seem to feel threatened by him).

I think that's just the way some cats are (mine included grr). She is sprawled over me nudging the phone because I have dared to stop touching her. Follows me everywhere, tries to go to every room with me. I had to go to great lengths to block myself into the bedroom at night to stop her from getting in as I was getting no sleep at night. Climbing all over the bath edges when I was in the bath and then hovering over a bath full of water on a towel rail. Started shutting her out then she would rip up the carpet outside the door to try to get in! She is a bit better now she is a little older but it is very very annoying. She had a lovely start to life and I got her around 5 months old from her mum so no trauma issues. We are a quiet house so she only has the hoover to fear! She throws herself a at anyone who dares to visit and demands their attention. Basically she just thinks she is the queen!

Wish mine was a bit more clingySad

KayTee87 · 24/10/2016 09:02

My dog follows me to the bathroom. The other morning when I was showering I had the baby sitting in the bouncy seat staring at me (his favourite thing to do) and the dog sitting staring at me too Shock can't remember the last time I was in the bathroom myself.

Don't wish for a clingy pet! Haha it's not as 'nice' as it sounds it's hard work

I have a dog shadow though he's a bit better than he used to be.

I also have a cat who ignores my existence unless she wants food or to be allowed out of the back door thus saving herself the inconvenience of the cat flap. Hmm

PosiePootlePerkins · 24/10/2016 09:34

Maybe not as clingy as yours OP! There has to be a balance somewhere...! Smile

Fleurdelise · 24/10/2016 09:38

We rescued cat about 18 months ago, we wanted a loving cat, what we got is a madam, she comes in only to eat, she allows us to stroke her on her terms, never sits on our lap. She only slightly bonded with my DS (15) and cries by his door to be let in and sleep on his pillow.

Can we please swap for a bit? I feel rejected and used!Halloween Wink

Myusernameismyusername · 24/10/2016 10:56

Yes let's swap. She also likes to swipe at you trying to get your attention no matter what you are doing
Naked on toilet/just got out of shower? I'm going to rub myself all over your wet body
Inside shower? I will stare at you from sink
Cooking dinner? I will sit on the kitchen table and poke you with my paw until you give me attention?
Sleeping? Don't be silly
Sitting on sofa - not interested - most bizarre which I do not understand

My lot are extremely clingy, they're known as Velcro dogs, so I go up and down stairs, they get under my feet, one is currently on my knee, I had two earlier (they're 25kg each!) It does drive me nuts, but it's sweet when I'm in the bath, they're on the landing and can't wait for cuddles ALL THE BLOODY TIME! I have to be very strict me tell them to stay on their bed sometimes or they drive me a bit potty. I've made them this way, tho, so I can't really complain. If they're tired, they're less demanding.

roseteapot101 · 24/10/2016 11:03

is she purely mixed or is she mixed with a pure breed

cats whether pure oriental or part mixed with oriental/Siamese act exactly as you describe ,my funny sweet thing

Just a moggy. Oh sitting in front of you and not moving when you walk towards them especially on stairs is deadly. I'm trying not to kill her or myself but I think she's hoping I trip over and am incapacitated and then spend all my days with her

Has she been watching Emmerdale recently? 😂

roseteapot101 · 24/10/2016 11:18

huh fascinating i guess that just means you naturally inclined to understanding cat behaviour. If your naturally attuned to animals you bond better as you have a good instincts with animals.Meaning you can understand them better so socialising is much easier for you.

You have done such a excellent job at socialising your cat she is now very loving

talk to her like you would a person does not matter the content just the tone mine is happy with a conversation instead of petting sometimes.

Myusernameismyusername · 24/10/2016 11:26

She instantly comes when I call her name. I would like to train her to do other things but sadly that hasn't worked. Like not climb on me while I am on the loo

She would love an Emma Barton situation!

I have one of those! it's a boy though and separated from mum at 4 weeks so explains a lot (12 weeks is recommended I know but it due to the so called owner getting rid as she didn't want him I didn't really have a choice!)

He's always close and has spent this morning asking for cuddles everytime I walk nearby by standing on his back legs, front paws stretched upwards on me like a toddler!

It's nice in some ways like having a companion at the bottom of the bed every night (He waits with me in the lounge til im ready to go to bed then comes in once im tucked in) Also running to give me a cuddle when I get in from work :D

MycatsaPirate · 24/10/2016 11:44

We have four cats and while they all adore me and prefer my company to anyone else in the house (probably because I am the giver of food), this one is my constant companion. Always. She is always next to me and can't bear it if another cat jumps onto me. We got her as a rescue two years ago when she was 8 and she spent 6 months in hiding and then came out and attached herself to me.
