To HATE the eighth Harry Potter 'book'

I know it came out ages ago, but I have only just got round to reading it and it's awful! Sounds like bad fan fiction and doesn't flow at all. JK Rowling obviously didn't write very much of it...... I wish I hadn't wasted my money now.

Do you mean The Cursed Child?
It's not a novel it's a script so obviously won't flow as well. I haven't seen the play so no idea if this is even the finalised version.
Rowling didn't write it, she collaborated on the idea for the story.
I thought the main idea (rescuing Cedric)was interesting, as was the idea of one of Harry's children being quite resentful of him, but other parts I didn't like so much. However seeing the play is probably a completely different experience.

I hate to state the obvious but given that it's not a book and wasn't written by JK Rowling, I'm a bit mystified as to what you were expecting?

ByeByeLilSebastian · 22/10/2016 14:30

I agree with the posters above re it's a script, but I still hate it. I wish she'd just leave it as it is

VimFuego101 · 22/10/2016 14:31

I thought exactly the same - seemed like fanfic. I still haven't finished it...

Trifleorbust · 22/10/2016 14:32

I enjoyed it.

Twogoats · 22/10/2016 14:33

I've seen the play and it is outstanding. One of the best things I've ever seen.

ShelaghTurner · 22/10/2016 14:33

My 14yo niece read it and wishes she hadn't. On her advice I'm steering clear.

littleprincesssara · 22/10/2016 14:42

Jack Thorne wrote it, not JK.

WildDigestive · 22/10/2016 14:46

But it's a play script written primarily by someone else, rather than anyone pretending it's another instalment of the HP series by JKR - playscripts are not designed to be read the way a novel is.

IwillrunIwillfly · 22/10/2016 14:46

I thought the same when I read the script but after seeing the play its totally changed my mind! There was so much that can across on stage that I hadn't imagined in the book. It was really amazing! I wish they hadn't released the script. It doesn't do the play justice!

Palomb · 22/10/2016 14:46

I didn't like it either and I'm glad I couldn't have afforded to go and see it at the theatre. The language was all wrong.

WildDigestive · 22/10/2016 14:47

It's not my kind of thing at all, but there are some entirely excellent actors in the cast, and so I have no difficulty imagining that the play is a wonderful experience, whereas the playscript is only intended as a set of directions to actors/producers.
