To sack the bloody cat and do my own dirty work.

There's a little field mouse that has decided to make our home it's house. Not going to happen. I'm terrified.

Cat has caught it twice today and let it go both times. Mouse is now trapped behind fridge with cat on guard. It won't get out but thicko cat is likely to let it go again.

How do I put traps down without the bloody cat loosing a limb?

Are there likely to be more of the little bastards?

Your cat is having fun. He's probably a well loved, well fed and well looked after cat so he'll not go for the kill just yet because his survival doesn't depend on eating the mouse.

He will kill it when he's bored though. Right now, he's enjoying his entertainment.

If he doesn't, then breakback traps with peanut butter or chocolate are fine. And block up all holes and gaps with wire wool.

It's the time of year when outside mice come into houses if they find an entrance. It doesn't necessarily mean you have an endemic problem.

Humane mouse trap? Won't hurt your cat but may entertain him if mouse is caught. 🐱

I know pink but I'm terrified. This is my Karma for rolling my eyes at people who are scared of spiders isn't it.

I called DH who is currently working and was told to get a grip before he hung up.

I'm now too scared to go in the kitchen to get alcohol or go to bed just in case it decides to join me.

At least I have alcohol

How do you know it's the same mouse. They sayou if you seen one then you have more. Looking for every hole you can find stuff it with wire wool. And expanding foam.

It's the same mouse. He's had it trapped since he caught it the first time. Mousey obviously thought he'd make a break for it but wasn't quick enough. I know where it's entry hole is again thanks to cat so will block it up. I know it's only a tiny little mouse but I can't stand the scratchy little bleeders.

Kitty is a bit too young probably. He's only 16 weeks so is unlikely to be sure what he's supposed to do once he's caught it as food normally comes in a china bowl.

Not all cats are good mousers and I assume that in any case he had no lessons in the craft from his mother then.

Mice can startle you because they move so quickly and are small - maybe some atavistic thing to do with snakes or similar - but they're not exactly frightening! Go get the booze and go to bed, shutting doors behind you if necessary. Smile

No help but have a cat and mouse interlude

My cat brought in a baby mouse, I got it of him and put it in a cage with food and water expecting it to die overnight. Instead it escaped.

I should say I had put mice hence having spare cage and water bottle.

Cat cought it again then it escaped in to the kitchen. We later found out it had built a nest behind the fridge - obviously nice and warm there. Otherwise the only sign there was a mouse was if you left the tray out after cooking roast potatoes, there would be tiny footprints in the grease.

Anyway 2-3 weeks later my cat finally recaught her (we called her miss mouse) as a now fat adult mouse and headed out the window to kill and eat.

I had visions of him bringing home more mice for me to fatten.

I'll lend you my big old tough ginger cat. There's nothing he likes better thing killing a small furry thing murderer. Sorry, not helpful. I would leave it, the cat will get it when he gets bored.

The cat will kill it eventually, either by accident or design. If it's a field mouse you don't have an infestation, it's just a casual intruder.

I caught a mouse in my office using a malteser and a Tupperware box. The humane trap I had bought to do the job was the biggest waste of money!

Mice are quite docile, unlike rats who go on the attack. You could put a large tub on its side on one side of the fridge and then encourage the mouse to move from the other until it runs into the tub and put it outside. Or just let your cat have another go.

We had an odd smell in the living room for a while. Eventually I realised it was probably a dead mouse that had sneaked through an open door. So last week I moved the sofa and, lo and behold, a dead mouse was found.

Poor little mite probably starved to death for fear of coming out and being caught by our cats.

My cat is an ace hunter but the two times we've had house mice he did not give a shit. Just slept on his chair while they ate through a bottle of glue in the cupboard right next to him.
It wasn't until I trapped it, killed it and took it to show DH that he reared up out of nowhere, snatched the dead mouse out of my hand and ran off to eat it.
Snickers make good bait btw.

I'm actually starting to feel sorry for the poor little thing. He's had it three times now each time only playing with it. It's back behind the fridge again and will probably die of shock or hunger at some point.

He was a bit of a lap cat until a few days ago. I bent down to stroke him this morning and the little bugger bit me so if anything it's toughening him up.

I'm still terrified. Nothing will ever change that but thanks for all your replies.

We currently have a vole hiding in the kitchen so I feel your pain!

Our cats like to play with them first before eating and it's almost more fun for them to let go and catch again. Sometimes we manage to save them but often not.

Longest we have had a live vole in the house must be about four days...

I'm hoping this one will emerge again today but I can't reach into where it's hiding so no guarantees. Thankfully I am no longer scared of them.

This situation happened in our house yesterday

Me loudly : Oh no the vats had a mouse over night.

Dh: how do you know?

Me: look down here there is loads of mouse poo. But all in 1 place. Cat had probably tortured poor thing all night oh no how sad. Oh what a horrible thing

DH: dw that isn't mouse poo it's bits of astroturf off dd's pe kit.

It will eventually die behind the fridge , my complete pain of a cat brings the field mice into the house, plays with them gets bored then loses sight of them so will happily swap lol
