Been living in my city for 13 years. Didn't know anyone at first but I soon made friends at antenatal group years ago and at the school gates. I socialised a lot when kids were younger, toddler groups, coffee before pick up, but now they are in secondary school, I can honestly say that I haven't got any of those friends any more. I've never invited anyone round for dinner, lack of confidence, but tbh, we have never been invited either. I thought it just wasn't the done thing where I live but I found out a few years ago through fb that people do and wonder why we have never got invited. It's too late now but I always feel a bit sad at weekends when we never have any plans with friends. Looking back, we never had friends in common, even before we got married and I wonder is we are unusual or if this is common. DH is not bothered, he works very hard and wants to relax at the weekend and although I'm fine about it, I do wish things had worked out differently

Join some new clubs now and make new friends. You obviously are well able to make friends as you did years ago so go for it again. I find since my teens grew and l could leave them home alone l started some new activities and made new friends. It's never too late. It doesn't need to involve your dh.

I only have friends through, school, uni and work
I don't really have any at the school gate just acquaintances
