Happy Meal - Kids Party?

ninenicknames · 21/10/2016 12:09

What would you think if 25 kids get a happy meal as the birthday tea for a kids party after an hours energetic entertainment?

Yes or No?

I've never minded it at all as both of mine love McDonalds and don't get it often. I wouldn't judge.

MissHooliesCardigan · 21/10/2016 13:04

I would be fine with it. I have hosted/ attended God knows how many birthday parties and I soon learnt that it is a waste of time spending hours lovingly making sandwiches or making quiches because at least half of them get chucked away. When I have had parties at home, I just laid on loads of crisps, some cocktail sausages and a ton of cakes and biscuits.

Pinkheart5915 · 21/10/2016 13:04

Yes happy meal is fine

NapQueen · 21/10/2016 13:06

Totally fine!

I've just been to Aldi and bought food for at home for 15 for a part and it came to over 50 quid and involves some cooking. Happy meal works out much better value!

Ds had a happy meal for lunch today and at the moment it's trolls in the box, if the party is soon!

splendide · 21/10/2016 13:06

Mine has never been to McDonalds either but I don't think the food would phase him.

QueenLizIII · 21/10/2016 13:07

Sounds awesome. I'm having happy meal cravings now.

HTKB · 21/10/2016 13:08

In a similar vein I always get dominos or similar for kids parties. They always have deals during the day time and I just dollop a slice on each plate, some cut up veg around the place for effect and kids love it as do grown ups getting the leftovers! I fed forty kids last time for forty quid.

stitchglitched · 21/10/2016 13:10

Sounds great. It is the Troll toys at the moment (took kids yesterday!)

Artandco · 21/10/2016 13:14

Flogging- no, mine can't eat gluten. So all macdonalds is out really. Hence I was saying maybe check allergies first. It's much easier to cater from home that a mass food chain if you have allergies/ vegetarian/ religious restrictions. As then those can pick and choose what's suitable

Jellybean83 · 21/10/2016 13:19

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

Damn I want a double cheeseburger now!

PersianCatLady · 21/10/2016 13:22

Most parents were ok with it. A couple were not. For one it was more ethical reasons. The other was that she would never take her dc there as she views it as unhealthy
Honestly I don't particularly like McDonalds because I am vegetarian but if a group of people are going I have a fillet-o-fish and I would certainly never stop kids enjoying it once in a while.

kali110 · 21/10/2016 13:24

Yes sounds great!

Jessia0 · 21/10/2016 13:25

Out of 25 children you are going to have several that can't/won't eat that sort of food, so you will need to provide alternatives.

Goldenbuzzer · 21/10/2016 13:28

Art - for a gluten free happy meal ask for a happy meal with a burger but no bun - you can take your own gluten free bun or they can just eat the burger patty. The chips aren't cooked in a fryer that frys and gluten containing food.

Artandco · 21/10/2016 13:28

Persian - how do you eat fish if you are vegetarian?

Jellybean83 · 21/10/2016 13:28

I'd maybe re-evaluate your choice of burger PersianCatLady, Fillet o fish isn't vegetarian friendly. They do an alright vegetable deluxe though.

PersianCatLady · 21/10/2016 13:30

At 2.50 thats still 62.50 for 25
That's still cheap for food for 25 kids.

My son is 17 now but I do remember paying £8 a head for soft play centre parties with foo, so 10 x £8 = £80.

MagicalMrsMistoffelees · 21/10/2016 13:31

Persian - if you eat fish then you are not a vegetarian. Fish are animals not plants.

It's misconceptions like that which have lead to restaurants offering 'fish' as a vegetarian option on their menus.

PersianCatLady · 21/10/2016 13:33

staff at two different McDonalds branches have refused to make him up a 'happy meal' minus the meat so he could have the toy
So why didn't you just order a normal Happy Meal with say fish fingers and just take them out of the box?

I know it may seem that the staff are being rigid but honestly they are so tightly managed that they honestly don't know what to do with requests like that.

It is not hard to just remove the CN or FF from a normal HM.

Somerville · 21/10/2016 13:37

My kids don't like McDonalds but they'd think the Happy Meal tat toy was cool and it certainly wouldn't bother me if it were what they were served.

It's an expensive way of doing the food for these numbers, though. Unless, as PP's say, the Happy Meals are doubling as party bags.

If you're doing separate party bags then getting larger portions of fries and chicken nuggets and putting them all out to share will be cheaper. And even cheaper still would be cooking oven chips and chicken nuggets yourself.

PersianCatLady · 21/10/2016 13:39

Persian - how do you eat fish if you are vegetarian?
Ok strictly speaking I am not a vegetarian but I haven't eaten any meat other than fish for 25 years.

redskytonight · 21/10/2016 13:41

The only thing worth thinking about is how old the DC are? If they are over about 7 then some of them will find it babyish and it might not be enough food.

PersianCatLady · 21/10/2016 13:45

Persian - if you eat fish then you are not a vegetarian. Fish are animals not plants
Sorry I should have put that I am pesco-vegetarian not vegetarian.

BarelyKeepingItTogether · 21/10/2016 13:50

I was wondering about the veggie kids if there are any. My daughter would have been a total pain in the arse if she were on your guest list. Would McDonalds just do fries and carrot sticks? I'm guessing not from pp's post.

She would have definitely wanted the troll toy so would have preferred just fries to an adult veggie burger.

Aeroflotgirl · 21/10/2016 13:53

yes absolutely fine.
