Happy Meal - Kids Party?

ninenicknames · 21/10/2016 12:09

What would you think if 25 kids get a happy meal as the birthday tea for a kids party after an hours energetic entertainment?

Yes or No?

We took a party group to McDonalds for dd's 4th birthday I think. Most parents were ok with it. A couple were not. For one it was more ethical reasons. The other was that she would never take her dc there as she views it as unhealthy.

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest however.

Bountybarsyuk · 21/10/2016 12:34

Mine have been at parties where the hosts have done this, obviously fine for us.

ninenicknames · 21/10/2016 12:35

£2.49 here

Cheapest option by far.

Will check allergies and do a massive fruit salad for the table.

For me to do it on my own would be way more expensive & last week, NONE of the kids ate the mini sandwiches, pizzas etc that served up

Sounds good, just make sure you call up a couple of hours before hand and let them know which happy meals you want and what drinks and how many. Ask parents what their kid will want before hand and if they would prefer fries with no salt or fruit bags/carrot sticks instead of the fries.

maddiemookins16mum · 21/10/2016 12:39

Yep, I never took DD to McDonalds (preferred BK), but she has been to a few parties over the years and loved a Happy Meal. A few nuggets and some fries every few months really isn't that bad (and I'd not bother with the fruit either 😊).

WaitrosePigeon · 21/10/2016 12:39

My kids would love that..

Soubriquet · 21/10/2016 12:39

Go for it OP

Maybe ask the parents who have rsvp yes to double check but I wouldn't have an issue at all

BarbaraofSeville · 21/10/2016 12:39

And if you are going to count the Happy meal toy/box as the party bag, it makes it even cheaper because you don't have the expenditure of buying 25 little toys to put in the party bags. Just need to add cake to the box for them to take home in lieu of a party bag?

But check there are no vegetarians or that vegetarians can be accomodated with something from the main menu because none of the Happy Meal main items are vegetarian, which is ridiculous - they should offer quorn nuggets, veggie burger, falafels, vegetable nuggets or similar.

McDonalds UK offering is pathetic compared to other countries, which have flatbreads, cake counters, beer and other stuff not available in the UK.

user1474627704 · 21/10/2016 12:40

Hmm, they are about €4.29 where I am. At 2.50 thats still 62.50 for 25.

Artandco · 21/10/2016 12:44

Anchor - I was guessing at £4 from adverts, like I said I have never actually bought one

I would just go ahead if you want for ease. Like I said mine wouldn't eat, but it wouldn't bother us, it's what, a 2 hour party? They will just eat before or after so no issue

Memoires · 21/10/2016 12:47

That was how the first birthday party dd was invited to, aged 2, was. Excellent, easy.

Happyhippy45 · 21/10/2016 12:50

Fine for a kids party. They are also good for catering to kids with allergies. Nice and simple.

SuperFlyHigh · 21/10/2016 12:51

why on earth not would this be fine??!!

I am an old gimmer and was around when McDonalds first opened in UK (late 70s/early 80s) I really envied my school mates who had parties at McDs with Ronald etc. Smile

Piratefairy78 · 21/10/2016 12:52

We did this at my DD bowling party last year. The leisure centre has no food so it's bring your own. The staff there told us that most people do McDonalds or Dominos, both of which are around the corner. We asked each child for their choice of food when they arrived and MIL and FIL happily went and collected. Everyone was happy and DD has been to a few parties since which have done the same.

gamerwidow · 21/10/2016 12:55

Fine. I would save yourself the headache of taking orders too and get everyone the same unless they have allergies. My Cm takes the kids to McDonald's for their birthday with another CM and all the DC get chicken nuggets, chips and milk so there's no arguments.

Pumkinpie73 · 21/10/2016 12:57

Yes Absouletly fine

At my ds party last week the children (most age 5/6) ate a ton of pizza slices, many many cupcakes and sweets. I can't see how a mc Donald's is any worse than that.

When my oldest (22) was young mc Donald's actually use to do parties, my ds had one many times

Parties are all about treat food, if a child can't keep treat food at a party when can they

spiderlight · 21/10/2016 12:57

I was just coming on to say what BarbaraofSeville has said. My DS is vegetarian and has in the past been sat with a small serving of fries and no toy while all the others in the group tuck into burgers/nuggets, and staff at two different McDonalds branches have refused to make him up a 'happy meal' minus the meat so he could have the toy, because apparently 'then it's not a happy meal and the toy only comes with the happy meal...'

Sparklesilverglitter · 21/10/2016 12:58

Yes of course it's fine

BarbaraofSeville · 21/10/2016 12:58

You could ask for their preference on the RSVP? Getting everyone the same will only prevent arguments until you get the ones that hate milk and/or chicken nuggets and want orange juice or a hamburger instead.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 21/10/2016 12:59

I wouldn't bother with the fruit salad. They won't eat it.

Floggingmolly · 21/10/2016 13:00

It's not the slightest bit strange, just because your kids have never been to McDonalds Art Hmm. They'll still be acquainted with the notion of chips and hamburgers, surely?
They probably have it for school dinners at least once a week...

For a party it's fine. Last few parties my DS has been to all he eaten has been biscuits and crisps, it's no worse. He'd love it!

When I was a kids everyone seemed to have their birthday parties at McDonalds. They used to have a party room and Ronald McDonald used to come in and sing happy birthday!!! Do they still do that?!

QuestionableMouse · 21/10/2016 13:02

Please phone the Mcdonalds and order in advance or you'll be waiting and cause megs stress for the staff! This goes double for fish or chicken Happy Meals. :) If you let them know what time you need the meals ready for, they can have everything cooked and ready for you.

QuestionableMouse · 21/10/2016 13:03

I've been off work for a week but I think it's Trolls now. I'm fairly sure they started on Wed.
