To think artificially prolonging childhood isn't about the children but the adults

I suppose I am wondering about this as Christmas is once more upon us and parents go to great lengths to convince their preteen children that Father Christmas exists when normally they would naturally be coming to that realisation alone.

AIBU to think parents should let children discover the world themselves and not enforce beliefs?

Although having said that I was desperate to believe and almost forced myself to until I was 11 and my suspicions were confirmed by a teacher who felt it his duty to tell a class of primary school children he wasn't real. At the time I was upset but I'm actually glad he cleared it up for me as I seem to remember DM never giving me a straight answer when I did ask once.

I think parents have all sorts of reasons why they might feel Santa is a 'lie.'

I don't feel like that, but if they asked me I wouldn't feel comfortable saying 'yes, yes he is real!'
