..if I don't clean up after my dog when it poos on the pavement?

I think I would be if I had a dog
I have just been for morning round of school run, shops, random wander and the pushchair has been through some dog crap. I try to watch for the stuff and avoid it but when you are watching to see if you can cross the road, dodge the teenagers and stop the baby crying it isn't always possible.
I have to clean it before it comes into the house.
TO make matters worse when I knelt down to put some shopping in the pushchair basket I didn't notice the stuff on the wheels and it got on my jeans too! And my washing machine is on it's way out so I am trying not to do too much before the replacement arrives.
Arrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhh

Don't get me started!!! We have a grass verge outside our house which we have to step onto/over to get in the car. I have lost count of the amount of times I have had to scrap crap off of ds (3) shoes.

Some people don't even bother to take the dog onto the grass and do it, and there is currently two lots smeared all over the pavement. Nice.

I saw a woman let her dog crap right near someone front door. She knew it was doing it. Waited for it to stop then walked away. Wish i had said something now really. Feel sorry for the house owner.

It is everywhere along my road.

This is one of the main reasons I don't own a dog. The thought of picking up poo... ewwww ... but if I had a dog, I would certainly pick it up.

It makes me so .

I saw someone walk away from their dog poo once, I reached into my baby changing bag, whipped out a nappy sack and handed it to them saying "here, you obviously have forgotten yours today" and stood there and waited for them to pick it up. They didn't look very happy.

dingdongjustforyoufg · 09/02/2007 11:51

I have to say I hate picking it up but I always do, it makes my stomach heave sometimes though

Freckle · 09/02/2007 11:52

I was very impressed the other morning by one dog walker. I was up very early and pootering a bit (at about 6.30am). I looked out of my window to see a dog and its owner stop at the end of my neighbour's path. Dog did his bit and owner cleared it up. Only say impressed because most dog walkers at that time of the morning think they are unobserved and walk on leaving the pile for others to tread in.

I have a dog and never leave the house without the wherewithall to clear up after him.

ItsMeMellowma · 09/02/2007 11:54

Disgusting...

I have to avoid it all the way down to collect and take ds to school.

Yuk!!

i think those irresponsible owners should be pooed on from a great height.

they give dogs a bad name.

Freckle · 09/02/2007 11:59

If you see someone walking away from their dog's poo, find out where they live and report them to environmental health. They will send someone out either to call on the irresponsible turd (the owner, that is) or to watch them when they are out and about. Sometimes a stern word from the authorities is all it takes for them to be more careful.

mytwocents · 09/02/2007 11:59

Even the tiniest bit could cause blindness in children. I know this as my dad used to be really militant with dog owners on the beach if they walked away from it, we grew up with two dogs and would go through the park on the way to school, unless they went in the undergrowth mum had a supply of bread bags in coat pocket at all times. Remember thinking eeeuuw! as a kid but much more awful if you're child went blind no?

EmmyLou · 09/02/2007 12:01

The pavement is the easiest place to scoop it up from. Hand in carrier bag, pick it up, tie bag handles, look round helplessly for bin, take home at arms length while pushing buggy, job done.

Now long grass - yeeeuuuuuggghhhh. You just have to do your best.

Have thought about chalking round it (like TV murder scenes) and leaving message.

ledodgy · 09/02/2007 12:04

Grrr this is my pet hate it's all along our school run and is fecking disgusting. Even dd (3) has started saying "mummy you'll have to ring the concel (council)"

poppiesinaline · 09/02/2007 12:06

We once got a letter from environmental health stating that someone was filing a complaint against us for frequently leaving dog poo on the pavement.

We didn't own a dog we have never owned a dog

I did phone them up. They apologised. No idea how it happened!! But at least I know they do take complaints seriously and act upon it!

So, if you know where the dog owner lives... report them. Action is taken.

Yes, if you had a dog and didn't clean up after you would indeed be being unreasonable, agree completely! It annoys me so much, I clean up after my dogs, so why don't other people?

And it really annoys me because then dog owners in general end up with a bad reputation because of the selfishness of a few!

maisym · 09/02/2007 12:09

pruni - like the idea!

Troutpout · 09/02/2007 12:10

should be made to wear nappies when not exercised on their own land

JillybeansNW · 09/02/2007 12:11

Pruni - there was a marketing campaign recently where they put little flags in dog turds!

OP posts:
Troutpout · 09/02/2007 12:11

little doggie nappies.

Angeliz · 09/02/2007 12:12

We also have a grass verge and the lady doewn the road used to let her dog out to shit there.
It was terrible. We rang the coucil and they came out and put up signs. We said it was still going on and they actually came out, caught her dog in the act and fined her.

No more poos and i often see her out with her bag, (she smiles to me, sdoesn't know it was me ).

and i have a dog myself!

Troutpout · 09/02/2007 12:13

Hurrah Angeliz
you are a hero!

magnolia1 · 09/02/2007 12:16

It was awful yesterday as the snow had covered it up on the path so he kids were walking through it without realising till it was too late
I own 2 dogs and have nappy bags in every pocket of every coat!!

JillybeansNW · 09/02/2007 12:18

Troutpout - would they be reusable nappies? That they would have to wash? Yeugh

wehad a dog when we were at high school my mum used to take it for a walk every morning and would always clean up after it
one day when she was walking her this awful woman pulled up in a car and started having a go at her about not picking it up , she was really upset as she would never dream of leaving it

my sister also has a dog and she has been known when he has had a liquid poo ner my house running to ds's sandpit and sprinkling sand on it!!!

i thnk that people who don't pick up after their dogs should have their pictures put n the local papers and then it would shame them into it
