I think I would be if I had a dog
I have just been for morning round of school run, shops, random wander and the pushchair has been through some dog crap. I try to watch for the stuff and avoid it but when you are watching to see if you can cross the road, dodge the teenagers and stop the baby crying it isn't always possible.
I have to clean it before it comes into the house.
TO make matters worse when I knelt down to put some shopping in the pushchair basket I didn't notice the stuff on the wheels and it got on my jeans too! And my washing machine is on it's way out so I am trying not to do too much before the replacement arrives.
Arrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhh

We live on a steet which is 2 minutes from a load of fields and people still walk down and let thier dogs go on the front of anyone's lawn (really pisses of DH as he has to clear it up when cutting the grass.

We went for walk in the fields once, but for the first field, as you walk along the verge all you can smell is dog pooh, as those desperate hounds who controlled thier bowels must let go as soon as they get to the field.

It really upsets DD(3) when she takes outher dolly's pram and accidentally wheels through it!

Ever since I moved to this neighbourhood five years ago I've noticed a little one person protest going on. Someone is going around with chalk putting a circle round every dog poo on the pavement with a message like 'nice!' or just 'clean it up!' They're tireless I tell you.

Once I saw a woman who's dog was shiteing on the path in the park and she started to walk away so I approached her, very smiley and friendly, offering her a plastic bag and saying, 'Have you run out of bags? Here you go'. She was horrified, but still didn't clear it up. She grunted, 'No thanks' and scuttled off. I hope at the very least it made her less brazen next time around.

I used to have a dog and I always cleaned up his poo. I hate having to look out for poo (and look out for children stepping in poo) every time I go out.

moosh · 10/02/2007 12:33

I hate it, I hate it, I hate it !!!!!

I love dogs but hate their pooh all over the streets and parks and fields where you want to go and play with your kids. Just a mere walk to the school and nursery is an obstacle race of "DODGE THE SHITE" !!!!

And because the kids don't look where their walking I am constantly looking out for it and yelling, "Pooh on the right there, or mind that big pile of ..... Oh too late!!!!!"
If you have a pooch clean up their shite, I would if I had a dog.

moosh · 10/02/2007 12:37

You know in petrol stations where they have a plastic glove compartment for when you put petrol in and paper towels free? Well they should have them dotted on lamp posts and park bins so that the it may encourage the person whose dog it is to grab a bag and PICK IT UP !!!!
I doubt if that would work though. Just a thought.

NannyL · 10/02/2007 15:52

I would not even dream of letting a dog foul the pavement (or any other public place) and leaving it there!

OK picking it up isnt that nice but its part of owning a dog

NannyL · 10/02/2007 15:53

not read whole thread btw

mooshs down here there are LOADS of places like lamposts, dog bins etc that do have bags avaliable for dog users to use.... for free

Timefortea, I was going to say that about the biodegradable nappy sacks. I used to get them in Sainsbury's but I haven't shopped there for a while so I don't know if they still do them. Obviously they are more expensive than the ones from the pound shop but worth it IMO. (I used to get the 'naturebaby' nappies as well until ds discovered he could pick them to pieces and I would find him in the morning with the cot covered in foul wee-filled gel).

There is a lane at the back of my house that I call Dog poo Alley because no-one bothers to pick up the mess. It's a minefield getting my bike out of the back gate and it reeks in the summer. What makes it worse is that the lane leads to a school playing field. It would be lovely to take the children up there to play but the poo makes it a no-go area for me. I wonder how the school copes?

Pixel · 10/02/2007 16:07

When I put a notice on my back gate to ask people not to let their dogs go there I found even more poo appeared and some lovely person even smeared it on the handle of my gate. Luckily I spotted it just before I reached out to pull the gate shut behind me .

We used to have a lunatic dog walker who used to let her dog sh*t on my grass in my front garden . It was one of those small houses with no fence at the front - just a bit of grass underneath the window next to the front door. Some fecking people...

tenbygirl · 10/02/2007 22:15

There is a dog that often craps in our drive or on the pavement at the front of our house.

My hubby says if he sees it happen he will follow the dog and its owner back home and then crap on their drive He really will do this if he catches them!

flutterbee · 10/02/2007 22:18

I think it's fckin disgusting when some sad bastard can't be bothered to pick up their dogs crap.

If people don't want to pick it up then they should get rid of their dog.

Stiller · 10/02/2007 22:19

Lol tenbygirl. I have my issues with my EX-P but I look back with proud memories at the day when he confronted this horrible cow when we found out who was responsible for the sht left on our grass. Filthy fckers!

Follow the owners and dog home, note their address, report to council. you might just find it won't happen again. We are being urged to do this in our area and it works, they will have a fine.

Stiller · 10/02/2007 23:29

Cat shit is worse than dog shit IMO because they bury it in your kids sand pit or in some other place that you really don't want to find it. Luckily the neighbourhood cats visit some other place rather than my garden. All shit is horrible.

expatinscotland · 10/02/2007 23:31

Start hitting these people where it hurts: their purse.

Until that happens, you can expect to play 'dodge the dog shit' whenever you venture out.

CurlyN · 10/02/2007 23:35

OMG i totally agree, took DC to a lovely park last weekend. it even had a hugh sandpit. there I am the screamimg mother at the side of the pit. 'theres caca get out'. ofcourse DC arn't bothered. Cats and owners are def far worse than dogs and owners.

ravenAK · 10/02/2007 23:36

My MIL got done for this & fined by the local council! The 'evidence' against her was highly dubious (hearsay from a neighbour she'd had previous run-ins with) & frankly I'd've challenged it.

But she WAS in the habit of letting her horrible mutt crap all over the edges of the local wood - has since been a devout taker of carrier bags on all dog walks...

CurlyN · 10/02/2007 23:48

ah ha so it does work to report the owners. OK i am a dog owner and walker. My rule is if it can't be seen under bushes where no harm can be done. yes i'll leave it. BUT if its on a public path, it goes home with me.

Stiller · 10/02/2007 23:53

But curly kids do get in bushes - well at least my DS does anyway. Can't you stop your dog going in bushes?

ravenAK · 10/02/2007 23:57

Yep - a 70 year old woman, who'd had the dog foisted on her by dh when he left home to move in with me & rather a lot of cats, paid a substantial fine because she was too scared to challenge a 'we have a report that your dog crapped in the hedge' letter.

I would have demanded concrete evidence, myself. Yes, she should have scooped it. She does now.

I think I would complain Jules and also tell the owners that I'll be squirting the cats with a hose pipe if I see them in my garden again. It's not on at all. I'd be really pissed off with it if it was my garden they were shitting in.
