We chased some sheep!!

I never let my kids chase pigeons in town or torment our cats or dogs. But today I actively encouraged my adult dd to carry my 2 year old ds to chase after some sheep.

The reason being ds wanted to cuddle one!! His little face crumpled when they obviously didn't catch one. We took loads of photos instead and he has talked about his wish to cuddle one for hours now. Looks like we will be visiting our nearby kids farm when we get back off holiday!
Are we as parents unreasonable in supporting our kids dreams even if they are somewhat strange?? Should I have told him it was a ridiculous idea or to let him think he had a chance??
The sheep by the way didn't look like they cared less about having to hurry off from a skinny dd carrying a well - clothed ds up a steep grassy hill - before I get rspca flamed!

I saw a little girl at a train station try and kick a pigeon just for her shoe to fly off on to the tracks just as a train was pulling in. There was much crying.
Instant karma.

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 19/10/2016 08:36

Oh get stuffed CaptainLiberal - it was you who insisted they were rats with wings. It's this classification by people of wildlife into "cute and deserving" and "not cute so fuck 'em" that's one of the reasons why the environment is so utterly screwed up, and why biodiversity is plummeting. Have you read the latest report on states of survival of British nature? And no, I'm not talking specifically about rats and pigeons.

Ilovehedgehogs · 19/10/2016 08:43

Yes, cute equals not being kicked for some reason, I hate that attitude too.

BlancheBlue · 19/10/2016 08:48

This so fake and a shit wind up

MadHattersWineParty · 19/10/2016 08:56

Oysterbabe good! I would have loved to see that. Silly brat hopefully won't do it again.

StStrattersOfMN · 19/10/2016 10:08

Pigeons are lovely, intelligent creatures, very loyal and affectionate, and they mate for life.

I've handreared loads, and they were always my favourites.

MiscellaneousAssortment · 19/10/2016 10:37

Hum. I think I'm going to assume the Op has no idea that her post wouldn't be received as an amusing lighthearted story. So has run away.

Willow2016 · 19/10/2016 10:53

Nobody is this stupid surely?

Its not ok to chase pigeons but its ok to chase sheep?
If it was actually true, which I doubt, pity the tup wasnt in with them, things would have reversed pretty quickly then Smile

ToastDemon · 19/10/2016 10:56

I wonder if someone chased her bearded dragon too?

StrangeLookingParasite · 19/10/2016 12:04

Oh get stuffed CaptainLiberal - it was you who insisted they were rats with wings.

Well aren't you charming. And it's a figure. of. speech.

Also, the word you're looking for is LITERAL.

I'm sorry, the city pigeons of Paris are none of the qualities ascribed to hand-reared ones.

EmeraldSittingRoom · 19/10/2016 12:28

Is this a goady fucker thread? How could any reasonable adult think that what the OP did is IN ANY WAY reasonable.

Some people are just thick, I suppose. Or just nasty, like the OP if she is for real.

betterthan · 19/10/2016 13:45

I suspect more threads than you imagine are sent to wind you all up. In fact I'm fairly sure it's a hobby for many.

Mermaidsandbutterflies · 19/10/2016 14:44

PLEASE DO NOT CHASE SHEEP!! The amount of times we have had sheep and lambs run scared and into ditches and drown because ignorant town people "wanted to take a selfie" with one or "my dog wasn't really hurting them, just playing with them! FFS!

RebeccaWithTheGoodHair · 19/10/2016 14:54

People want to take a selfie with a sheep?!

Mermaidsandbutterflies · 19/10/2016 15:06

yes Rebecca wtf is all that about?! Had a phone call from a fellow farmer one day to get my arse to the field as he had just caught 4 teenagers chasing them round trying to catch one to take a picture with one! One lamb was in the ditch but alive and another it was sadly too late for :-(

Gowgirl · 19/10/2016 15:07

Selfie with a sheep/feeding flying ratspigeons seems there's no end of stupid out there...

pugsake · 19/10/2016 15:11

Reading this and pulling Confused face.

Op is a regular poster isn't she?

Loyly · 19/10/2016 15:11

MadHattersWineParty · 19/10/2016 15:15

She was. I think they'll be a NC before posting again.

Gowgirl · 19/10/2016 15:18

Probally bored, that's when I tend to add stupid threads Grin so hands up all those that think pigeons are fair game? Grin

MadHattersWineParty · 19/10/2016 15:25

Oh FFS.

Billben · 19/10/2016 16:17

No animal is fair game. I hate pigeons, badgers, foxes, magpies, seagulls and few a more in my opinion useless things, but I would never go chasing them or mistreating them in any way. I think it says a lot about you as a person if you get the kick out of doing such things.

Pohara1 · 19/10/2016 16:59

I wasn't going to post on this as everyone else has it pretty much covered, but then I changed my mind. I currently have a very large, very strong very hormonal ram running with my girls, and should this have happened in 'his' field with 'his' girls, he'd have butted them. He could easily knock an adult man off their feet, so I could imagine what he'd do to a 2 year old.

My yard is full of signage, like everyone else's would be too - only authorised personnel, livestock can be dangerous, don't touch the machinery - all the signs that farmers have to have up now to meet various health and safety regulations. And yet, when livestock turn on members of the public who have no business being on the property in the first place, who are they going to try to blame?

So, op, if your ds's experience had gone differently, if the ewes had aborted, would you pay the market price for the lambs? If the ewe had died from the stress of being chased around her own field by strangers, would you have paid the market price for her? Or if there had been a ram who took umbrage to your presence, who would you be blaming and shouting at about keeping 'dangerous' animals?

MetalMidget · 19/10/2016 17:04

No animal is fair game

Partridges, rabbits and deer are fair game.

...

I'll get me coat.

OurBlanche · 19/10/2016 17:10

Pheasants, guinea fowl, partridge, quail, grouse, snipe, woodcock, ptarmigan even moorhens have a season when they are very fair game!

Not to mention ducks, rabbits, hares, deer, boar and I am bound to have forgotten some!

Metal hang on a minute, I'll come with ... Smile
