To think that chimney sweeps are...

The rudest tradesmen ever?! We get our chimney swept every two years and usually book a year ahead. Unfortunately, our usual guy is ill and can't do it.
I must have messaged over 20 different sweeps and none of them get back to you!
Do they not want any work? They get paid £60 per hour to sweep a chimney and hoover up the dust. How hard can that be?
I may get my own set of brushes...

Still waiting...😂

SnotGoblin · 18/10/2016 15:48

I imagine they're swept off their feet at this time of year as the cold is setting in...

Gleam - have you tried calling? Might it be possible he's been unavoidably delayed . . . . . Accident maybe? Maybe between the two of you, possibly dates and times have been muddled? You won't know until you check. Have you checked?

gleam · 18/10/2016 18:08

He didn't answer his phone....so who knows?

AllTheShoes · 18/10/2016 18:19

Mine due today didn't turn up either. Several texts and calls later, I still haven't heard anything.

GingerIvy · 18/10/2016 18:31

Isn't this their busiest time of year? Next time get it done during the late spring, early summer instead.

Justwanttoweeinpeace · 18/10/2016 18:34

Our sweep is lovely but I do get ours done in high summer when he's quiet.

Also don't you have I do it yearly to keep the insurance company happy?

bananamonkey · 18/10/2016 18:38

Hijack sorry hoping wise MNes can advise as I'm new to having a chimney! Had it done in March when we moved in, was thinking we'd need it swept again for winter but can we get away with it? Dusty bits do come down the grate but we Haven't actually had any fires yet...

Matchstickbox · 18/10/2016 18:43

You may like to check your home insurance to see if you are covered to do diy.
If (god forbid) it did catch fire you may not be covered without proof it's been swept by a professional.

Ours is lovely but never stops talking whilst he is here. Must book him in- thanks for the reminder!

I wish I could recommend mine.

He's swept ours twice each year, for two years and not charged a penny..

Well, on the third occasion (after two DC bollockings) the DC gave him the coal man's money by mistake.

He keeps saying remind him next time Blush
