WWYD?
Y11 Boys at school playing football in the playgound. Boy 1 kicks the ball at boy 2 who is holding a phone. Phone is knocked out of boy 2's hand and screen breaks. Should Boy 1 cover the cost of the repair?

Whoops, sorry - saw your update.

What a daft child!

I wouldn't assume you are off the hook yet. The boys parents may have different ideas. Give it a few more days before you let out a big sigh of relief.

At my son's school this is one of the reasons that the school give for not allowing kids to take phones into school as if they get broken the school don't want to be getting into debates with parents over who is paying for damage to a phone.

If the phone hadn't have been there then no matter where the ball went it wouldn't have caused any damage to the phone.
