To do a straw poll on whether you're happy with where Brexit is heading?

Bearbehind · 16/10/2016 16:57

This isn't about the whys and wherefores of how we got here but, since no one I speak to IRL is happy with the path Brexit is leading us down and I've just seen a poll in the Metro strongly in favour of abandoning Brexit it got me wondering how wide spread it is.

This isn't supposed to be an argument thread or even how you voted, just Are you happy heading towards a hard Brexit

Yes or No

all of which have become an echo chamber for about 5 posters, you included, to slag eveyone who voted leave off, you are not doing your cause any favours at all
Can I just thank these 5 or so Remainers who are continuing to post elequently and knowledgeably about this total shit storm we have unleashed. I am sure I am not the only Remainer grateful that you have the stamina and patience to keep rebutting the rhetoric and lies that are still characterizing the Leave side and this idea that there are only a few left who keep banging on about things as they can't move on is bullshit. As can be seen by the amount of others who haven't "moved on" and who post anytime a thread on Brexit is allowed to stand somewhere on these boards other than the EU Ref board.

MagikarpetRide · 25/10/2016 06:32

small you will always be a liar to the likes of carol because they are in full teenage tantrum mode and nothing that gets done regarding the EU would even be good enough.

UK: listen Dave, that vat stuff is a bit crap. How come we have it on Sanpro but not razors. And whilst we're at it, wtf is going on with ebooks?
Dave: we hear you, we will talk to the eu about changes
UK: wtf dave??? You need to implement it yourself
Dave: unfortunately that's how it works

A while later
Dave: hey EU, your vat system is hideously out of date
EU: you're right Dave, we will let you do the sanpro thing and whilst we're at it we were going to look at ways to let every eu nation change their own stuff within reason. I take it you will back us up.
Dave: well that totally sounds reasonable.

A while later:
Dave: we are going to zero rate sanpro. The eu are also looking at further ways to modernise vat and we back it.
UK: wtf Dave, that's so not fair, why are you always being dictated to, this isn't right. We should control our own tax. Why didn't you tell them to stuff it. This wasn't about sanpro you know.

Above is your OP. Above that is your response to two posters. So did you require a yes or no answer to your OP or do you require posters to open up their heart and soul when it is blatantly obvious you are stuck up your own backside and are not going to give the time of day to the opinion of others? In fact what was the real reason for your OP??

It's really quite telling that fluffy has gone to the trouble to post my OP and another quote, alledgly by me, and can't even get that right. Hmm

If you can't even distinguish between posters, who's names helpfully appear just above their posts, it doesnt bode well for further discussions does it?

Yes the thread was yes/ no to start with, but, as ever it moves on. Sadly moving on always ends up with Leavers like you playing bullshit bingo with Leave catchphrases and giving no tangible reasons for being happy with where we are heading.

You even said you don't have a clue what the positive benefits are going to be FFS. Why should anybody who wanted to Remain accept that you've basically made this choice on a wing and a prayer and you've no fucking clue why?

No. A thousand times no.

birdybirdywoofwoof · 25/10/2016 07:27

Those five or so posters- who I'm sure most remainers agree with - are doing a fantastic job of laying out reasoned and evidence based arguments.

It's almost unfair to compare them with the regular brexiters here who (with a couple of honourable exceptions) don't know what they're talking about, have minimal grasp of politics or economics, often don't understand the 'big' words they use and because of that can only squeal 'you're picking on me'.

I always hope to read a brexitter making sense on mn - because basically our country's future has been decided by them - So i am massively disappointed with the shit they continue to come out with.

Roystonv · 25/10/2016 07:30

No, very worried.

MissHooliesCardigan · 25/10/2016 08:30

No. And I'd also like to thank the eloquent Remainers who are continuing to patiently make reasoned arguments. I'm right behind you, I'm just not as clever or articulate.
And can people please stop with the 'Just get over it' and 'Move on' stuff. By all means, say that to someone whinging that the checkout assistant in Tesco was rude to them or whose hamster has died. But please stop telling those of us who are seriously worried about our children's future to just shut up and stop moaning.

Bananagio · 25/10/2016 08:32

Agree birdy I would love to read a reasoned Brexiter response - I have scoured these boards for months looking for one as I would actually like to be proven wrong (not being a masochist who wants things to go to shit to prove a point) and with the exception of the odd one most Leave posters do nothing to further their claims of reasoned, well thought out decision making. If I was one of the few Leave supporters who have made a reasoned and well thought out decision then I would be spamming these boards with those thoughts - not because Remainers are demanding it but because I would be embarrassed by the low level of debate and barely concealed prejudice that so many Leave supporting posts illustrate so effectively.

twofingerstoGideon · 25/10/2016 08:43

It is absolutely right that Remainers keep talking and arguing and keeping the topic alive. It is important that people know that others are not giving up/rolling over (solidarity, etc...) We should not, at all, be giving the impression that we will accept whatever Theresa May chooses to interpret as Brexit. Groups like Vote Leave Watch, the 48%, Open Britain etc., are also important in this regard.

There is nothing that the government and pro-Brexit groups would like more than for everyone to go quiet and appear to be acquiescing in this shambles.

SarfEast1cated · 25/10/2016 08:45

An ex-colleague of mine - a well-educated broadsheet journo - voted for Brexit, citing EU corruption as his reason. Felt that a Brexit vote would allow the UK to negotiate more favourable terms with a panicked EU. Wonder how he feels about it all now.

ClaudiaApfelstrudel · 25/10/2016 08:47

bbbb...but

we took back control?

smallfox2002 · 25/10/2016 13:36

Wow ! Thanks for the support guys. Bit humbled.

LurkingHusband · 25/10/2016 13:40

Wow ! Thanks for the support guys. Bit humbled.

It's almost as if you have 48% of the site behind you, really.

Valentine2 · 25/10/2016 14:01

We are all in it together Halo

Valentine2 · 25/10/2016 14:07

I'd like to add my voice of thanks to the others - smallfox, bear and all the others who are going to all the trouble to find and present reasoned evidence. I just don't have the energy to not be blown away by all the Brexit shouting. I didn't have a vote because I am an EU national living in the UK, but you guys make me feel a little better about the whole thing.

Valentine2 · 25/10/2016 14:58

bear
Please do the new one in AIBU too. We need to keep it visible. I hate to click on "Other Stuff" in mumsnet list to get to the EU ref topic. It's NOT "Other Stuff". Hmm

birdybirdywoofwoof · 25/10/2016 15:01

Flowers small fox, bear and others of the 'chamber of five'.

Your patience is incredible.

MagikarpetRide · 25/10/2016 15:03

Can't we be the 'Order of the Phoenix' or something? Sound's less evil Grin

Bananagio · 25/10/2016 15:11

If it gets moved then maybe we start going through every thread in Chat and AIBU and request they get moved to Sleb Twaddle, Relationships, TV etc etc. You know, rather than just not opening them if we are not interested Hmm. I could understand it around the time of the vote when there were so many Brexit threads about clogging the Boards up but now the cries to move the odd Brexit thread out of sight is just part of the whole attempt to stifle any debate or disagreement with Brexit means Brexit or whatever the current gormless flag waving rhetoric is.

Valentine2 · 25/10/2016 15:21

Banana you nailed it. We go through the list of all the important things and then click on "other stuff" and just that act of clicking on something named "other stuff" is minimising the effect that Brexit has on our daily lives. It's really counter productive.

Bearbehind · 25/10/2016 15:46

Link to new thread for those who are interested
