To think well done, Tesco?

The whole Tesco & Unilever hoo-ha.

I understand people have first world problems, crying about Marmite and Hellmans and whatever else is super thrilling on their weekly shop; but am I alone in thinking well done Tesco? Well done for not buckling under immense pressure, and that 10% price hitch which would have smacked Tesco shoppers in the bollocks?

Now that Unilever have been told to get fucked, I'm sure that the other supermarkets won't be willing to take the 10% increase either. Am I missing a bigger picture?

I buy Tesco Marmite and mayonnaise anyway, nothing is irreplaceable but have we really become that materialised that #marmitegate is a thing?

"If it becomes cheaper to buy from UK producers this can only be a good thing for UK farmers and manufacturing. Which will be a good thing for the UK economy. "

Can I interest you in my special magic beans, froubylou?

Blimey SwampyTiggaa

Does Tesco open on Boxing Day?

Why? Surely everyone's bought / eaten enough to last till Easter.

tofutti · 16/10/2016 14:15

What will probably happen is farmers/raw material suppliers will get shafted, as Unilever will have to squeeze them.

This will get worse as companies' run out of euros.

I really wouldn't applaud Tesco. They're not above bullying their suppliers.

tofutti · 16/10/2016 14:23

Also, often 'own label' products are often provided by the 'branded' companies.

United Biscuits make Tesco's own label biscuits
Kerry Foods (who make Cheesestrungs) make Tesco's own brand butter
Kimberly Clark, who make Andrex loo roll, make own label toilet tissue for Tesco

There's hundreds of examples.

Companies work on efficiency, so branded and 'own label' are made from the same factory site.

The one he works at does I think.

He has worked at Tesco for 6 years now. He has always finished Christmas eve morning and gone back on boxing night which is bad enough but this is ridiculous.

I avoid Tesco on principle. They treat many of their staff & suppliers apallingly. And clearly aren't averse to cooking the books to minimise tax etc.

*appallingly. Damned tablet.
