AIBU to think the art teacher should mark our work?!

DS is in Year 7 and was set some art homework that he spent quite a long time on - much longer than I expect the teacher anticipated it would/should take. Anyway, as the original was left on his desk, I thought it would be fun/interesting to see what I could achieve in an hour, just copying the picture. I am NOT an artist by any stretch of the imagination but I was smuggly quite pleased with my effort (even though the cat sat on it before I'd finished). Somehow I managed to convince DH that he should have a go as well. He chose not to use the whole 60 minutes and was done in about a quarter of an hour; the result cracked me up! Can't wait for DS to come home and judge our work! Do you think we should send the finished products in to school so that, if nothing else, the teacher can see that DS is most definitely not getting any parental help?

Don't you think the teacher has enough to do already?

TheProblemOfSusan · 13/10/2016 18:08

I think you should post them here so we can mark them Halo

ChocolateBudgeCake · 13/10/2016 18:10

My DH as a child had to draw his hand for his homework but is really awful at art and was getting quite distressed by it so his dad (who is a head teacher!) drew it for him helped him out quite considerably. The teacher gave him an F!

ChocolateBudgeCake · 13/10/2016 18:11

Yes post them and we can mark them!

MrsGsnow18 · 13/10/2016 18:11

I agree with theproblemofsusan
Don't tell us who did each one and we can guess/judge! Grin

WiddlinDiddlin · 13/10/2016 18:22

Please post them all, and then we can judge!!

If it helps, I guess having sold art and taken commissions I am technically a professional artist...

GreatFuckability · 13/10/2016 18:27

chocolatebudgetcake, i wonder if your DH went to my school! my mother did my brothers hand homework!

thereisabetterway · 13/10/2016 18:37

Ilovesooty - Don't worry, I wasn't really intending to inflict our lack of skill on the teacher.

Here is the original picture followed by the two attempts. The cat photo will follow later if you show due appreciation for our efforts!

Aw, I like all of those! I can see the second two artists are not academically-trained in fine drawing, but there is a certain personal touch in each picture that highlights the emotional intensity of the original. is definitely an art critic in normal life deffo

But slightly more seriously, I think your DS's is great and yours is too - you have actually observed really well and captured the key parts of your DS's pretty much spot on. Much better than anything I could manage!

Your husband's is sweet too - looks more Wild West than the first two :-)

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 13/10/2016 22:34

Ah they're great! (Although the third one does rather resemble ET in a hat Grin ) I'd love to be able to draw as well as any of you!

DontTouchTheMoustache · 13/10/2016 22:39

The first one is very good...the other two are...Um..very....creative Grin well done op, I couldn't draw a bath so far play to you

roasted · 14/10/2016 00:07

I really like your DS's sketch. Talented boy!

I'm saying nothing about your DH's attempt...

CauliflowerSqueeze · 14/10/2016 00:16

That first one is amazing. It really is.

ChequeOff · 14/10/2016 00:20

I love your dh's sketch!
If it's about entertainment he wins!

BrainPrions · 14/10/2016 03:56

Damn! Your kid has talent! Shock

Your husband... not so much. Grin

acasualobserver · 14/10/2016 08:11

The first one is excellent. Mum and dad ... well done for having a go.

thereisabetterway · 14/10/2016 09:01

The first one is THE ORIGINAL (which is why it's so good). DS's is still unfinished as far as I know and I don't think he'd appreciate me posting it on MN!

Personally, I think my DH's looks as if the poor model has spent a few years in Belsen!! And I know what you mean about the cowboy look of it, Susan.

Ooops I didn't mean to hit Send twice. Does anyone want to see the cat photo? He's feeling a bit left out, so here he is:
