To think the landlord shouldn't have just let himself in to the house?

The landlord had to come round yesterday to have a look at the extent of the water damage, he knew we were at home but instead of knocking at the door he just let himself in with his keys. That's not the done thing, is it??
He turned up again today and let himself into the garage to pick up some of his belongings that were there, not bothered about that because its just the garage but I felt I couldn't leave the house until OH came home in case he let himself in again.

No, you have legal protection against this kind of thing. Do you have a letting agency?

correct. Go read the 'how to rent' booklet which you should have been given when you moved in, if after Oct 2015. If you moved in before that, it is on gov.uk.

No agency, renting directly from him. Not in the UK but I'm sure the rules are quite similar here. I want to say something to him about it but I'm not good at confronting people.

I'm sure he still thinks of it as his own home as it was his home for 40 years but he needs to realise its not now.

What country are you in?

Finland. Looking up the laws now but can't seem to find anything that specifically says that he can't do that.

Just found out the landlord ought to lower the rent until the repairs are made too, going to have to talk to him about that as well.
