To want a refund

I had a cake made for an important birthday. Whilst it wasn't quite cake wrecks bad it was certainly a Pinterest fail.

I've followed up with cake maker but she is implying it's my own fault.

AIBU to request a full refund?

I think if it didn't look like what you were promised and it collapsed, then yes, you should get some kind of refund. I think as you have eaten it you can't expect a full one. I'm confused as to why she is saying it's your fault it collapsed ?
Really wanna see pics though...

eatingtomuch · 11/10/2016 18:26

I'm liking the cake threads. Would love to see a picture

iminshock · 11/10/2016 18:30

It was delicious.
Let it go

iminshock · 11/10/2016 18:32

Ruined your son's birthday ?
You are kidding , right ?

ClopySow · 11/10/2016 18:33

We need pics! We need pics! We need pics!

flanjabelle · 11/10/2016 18:33

Definitely need a pic to be able to judge.

flumplet · 11/10/2016 18:36

Of course we need pics. Or a drawing at the very least.

ny20005 · 11/10/2016 18:38

If a cake maker delivers & cake & you accept it, their job is done. If you've moved it or stored it incorrectly causing it to collapse, that's your fault

YouAreMyRain · 11/10/2016 18:40

Pics

MrsGsnow18 · 11/10/2016 18:41

Did you mention that you weren't satisfied when you collected cake/had it dropped off?
I agree that if you accepted cake and it hadn't collapsed until later ( especially as a result of being moved etc) then I don't think you can expect a refund. Especially since you used and ate the cake!

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 11/10/2016 18:46

Pictures are not needed. If you weren't happy with the cake you ought to have raised an issue with it there and then. But you didn't. You accepted the cake as it was and you have therefore waived your right to a refund IMHO.

Dontyouopenthattrapdoor · 11/10/2016 18:46

For a hundred and sixty pounds I'd expect absolute perfection tbh.

But we can't answer really without more details.

ClopySow · 11/10/2016 18:48

Oooh, a drawing would work too.

Oblomov16 · 11/10/2016 18:51

The I completely disagree with nearly all the posters. You accept delivery. That's not the end of the agreement, when it relates to food.
It's only when you go to cut it, and actually eat it, that you realise it's dry and not right.

All these people saying you r got no comeback because you accepted it, ate it, is rubbish.

Please tell me you at least kept some of it, as evidence, and let her know ASAP.

The fact she hasn't offered some sort of refund/ entered into negotiations, is unfortunately very telling.

Oblomov16 · 11/10/2016 18:53

Sorry. It is wasnt dry. I got that boy all wrong.

HighwayDragon1 · 11/10/2016 18:53

Pictures or it didn't happen

froomeonthebroom · 11/10/2016 18:53

Shameless placemarking for pictures Grin

MakeMyWineADouble · 11/10/2016 18:56

you say the cake maker is blaming you for the cake collapse? Why is she saying is it that the type of cake you requested wasn't suitable for what was being made in which case unless she warned you I would say that is her fault or is she saying it was stored/transported incorrectly in which case it will be hard to prove she's wrong! As for how it looked I agree ideally something should have been said at the time of delivery/collection.

WalterWhitesNipple · 11/10/2016 19:06

Imagine if this is the same OP as the other cake thread and she keeps us up till midnight waiting for the photos....

2kids2dogsnosense · 11/10/2016 19:07

PLacemarking in hope of pictures of horrific cake collapse.

CoolToned · 11/10/2016 19:10

Partial refund. But my opinion could change when the photos are up.

Waffles80 · 11/10/2016 19:13

Agree with previous posters that a partial refund is necessary, but pictures are needed to properly determine. Also picture of what you asked for.

Was it for your own birthday, or someone else's? What did your guests say about it?

Imnotaslimjim · 11/10/2016 19:18

We need to know the reason behind the collapse before we can say if it warrants a refund.

I sell novelty cakes and insist on delivering every time. That way I know it's delivered in one piece. If I'd sold a tiered cake and a tier had collapsed, I'd be extremely embarrassed and would certainly offer a partial refund.

growlerisnotaporkpie · 11/10/2016 19:22

need to see pics, not place marking at all

GreyHare · 11/10/2016 19:27

I think as you ate it you would only qualify for a partial refund, was it a tiered cake as they shouldn't collapse if they had used supports.
