To want a refund

I had a cake made for an important birthday. Whilst it wasn't quite cake wrecks bad it was certainly a Pinterest fail.

I've followed up with cake maker but she is implying it's my own fault.

AIBU to request a full refund?

I had a terrible time with our wedding cake. It looked amazing but tasted terrible. I'd also got cupcakes made that were gluten free, and they were worse - truly inedible. My gluten free bridesmaid took one bite then hid the rest so I wouldn't be upset. However I then tried one and vomited. On my wedding day. It was so powdery and very bitter. I didn't complain because I didn't have the energy and was embarrassed to be a complainer. I regret it. So please complain OP!

Starlight2345 · 11/10/2016 19:36

Another one wanting pics ... No pics no opinion/

Lorelei76 · 11/10/2016 19:37

I must be a cake ignoramus because I have no idea what a customer could do to s cake so that collapse would be their fault.

Unless they kicked it. Or maybe a clown scared it?

DesolateWaist · 11/10/2016 19:38

There is no way to say without pictures I'm afraid.
It must have been a very important birthday to warrant a cake that expensive.

IminaPickle · 11/10/2016 19:49

No pics no opinion here too neither either whatevs Wink

Bulbasaur · 11/10/2016 19:53

Regardless of how bad it was, you ate it. If you wanted a refund, you should have kept the cake so you could return it. But you can't expect a cake for free after you've eaten it.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 11/10/2016 20:02

You want a full refund for a cake you served and ate??!!! Shock Shock

You are bonkers. A discount may be in order in the circumstances. But a full refund? Only a total chancer would try that on.

FluffyFooFoo · 11/10/2016 20:05

I don't think it is appropriate to name & shame on mumsnut to be reviewed by randoms. You need to be decent and take it up with the cake maker direct.

AbyssinianBanana · 11/10/2016 20:05

I don't agree that just because you used/ate the cake, you can't get a partial refund. It's not like you can say no, I refuse to accept it and pay and then just waltz to any other baker and get another £160 cake baked in a couple of hours!

Just because someone is stuck and has no choice but to use your inferior product doesn't mean they have to still pay you the full price - if you failed to deliver the agreed upon product, you can't expect full payment.

ByAllMeansMoveAtAGlacialPace · 11/10/2016 20:49

We need to see a picture

PipersPiping · 11/10/2016 21:11

Im still getting over the cost, £160 for a cake?? Can they really cost that much, wedding cake obviously yes but birthday? Please show us a photo.

3boys3dogshelp · 11/10/2016 21:19

If your Lego cake spoiled your son's birthday then I think I have probably spoiled all my kids' birthdays so far! Too cheap to pay a professional - I can manage edible but not pretty. 😂😂

Starlight2345 · 11/10/2016 21:36

lol 3 boys ..I laughed so much bought on a coughing fit from my cold..

CakeConundrum · 11/10/2016 23:52

I didn't collect the cake - I got delayed and so someone picked it up on my behalf.

They did not know what the cake was supposed to look like and in any event it was prepaid.

By the time it travelled three minutes from the shop to where I collected it it was collapsing severely and the shop was closed so there was little I could do.

It did taste great but part of the reason for paying so much was to have something visually impressive.

avamiah · 12/10/2016 00:17

OP,
Why are you not posting a picture of the cake?
The thread is pointless without pictures.

user1476140278 · 12/10/2016 00:20

OP won't post pics. If she was going to she would have already.

OP...you can't have a refund since you ate it!

CakeConundrum · 12/10/2016 01:17

Not posted pics cos I've been travelling and internet connection not good enough...anyway here goes:

OP posts:
mum11970 · 12/10/2016 01:21

If it collapsed it'll probably be due to transporting it incorrectly. Can't see how you can complain if you don't know what it looked like when it was picked up.

CakeConundrum · 12/10/2016 01:37

This is what I wanted....

Can't see either picture... 😳

icklekid · 12/10/2016 01:40

Sorry can now...it is leaning horrendously! Is she saying that is because of how transported...how ridiculous! For a start the top layer is nothing like the pics!

mum11970 · 12/10/2016 01:44

No expert but looks like it's been transported at an angle. Not the cake makers fault.
