It's been playing on my mind all day and made me feel really shit about myself.
At a playgroup with dc. Some mums start chatting about hair washing, I said I wash mine once a week, about every 7 days or so.
One of the mums pulled a terrible face and literally recoiled in horror and said I am gross Sad she tried to laugh it off buy tbh it felt more like laughing at me.

I'm very clean, I wash at least once a day but if I wash my hair more often it goes very frizzy. It's not greasy at all either.

Is it really bad to go that long?

OP posts:
FairyDogMother11 · 10/10/2016 20:06

I wash mine only twice a week. My hair swings from being overly greasy to being horribly dry otherwise!

pictish · 10/10/2016 20:07

She must be an MNetter OP...one of those nobs that start hurling childish insults at people that shower every second day and use a towel more than once before they wash it. Tedious AF.

2kids2dogsnosense · 10/10/2016 20:08

Sorry don'tpanic hadn't seen your "no hair washing" post when I posted mine.

Squiff85 · 10/10/2016 20:14

Ugh, hate people like this! I wash my hair often as I run and get sweaty, but before I ran once a week was fine.

Some peoples hair needs washing daily, others not. Stupid woman!

Trills · 10/10/2016 20:16

Different people's hair reacts in different ways.

Those mums need to come on MN and learn that there is more than one way of doing things.

HellsBellsnBucketsofBlood · 10/10/2016 20:17

I do mine every once a week to 10 days. It's not greasy at all. But when I used to do every other day it was horribly greasy.

Some people just can't cope with others doing things differently. Ignore her.

Wolfiefan · 10/10/2016 20:18

I have very short hair and need to wash it every day or it looks horrid.
Don't you exercise? I have to wash mine after the gym or swim or whatever!

Shenanagins · 10/10/2016 20:20

When I was pregnant I was able to wash my hair once a week and it was great! Back to every day now, as it gets too greasy. Very jealous!

Sugarcrystal2002 · 10/10/2016 20:20

When I had long hair I did the no washing thing and my hair had never been in better condition, right now I need to wash it about once a month as it's short. I don't brush it either as it causes it to frizz up when it's long and I end up looking like Crystal Tipps.

Trills · 10/10/2016 20:21

pictish it seems we have said the exact opposite thing!
You said that MNers are twattish about people doing things differently, I said that being on MN opens your eyes to people don't things differently :o

My theory is that in your everyday life you mainly meet people who are from where you are from, and do things approximately the way you do things.

And if they don't, they are far too polite to mention it.

So when you first come on MN, you meet people who do things differently, and some of them aren't afraid to say so.

So there is a period when you are shocked at seeing people do things differently, but you are polite and you do not say anything rude.

Some of them are equally shocked at you doing things differently to them, and they are not polite (because the internet is not real life), so they behave like twats.

But after a while, people either figure out that "different people do things differently" or they cannot handle the truth and leave. So you are left with people who have now learned that there are many ways to skin a cat (or iron a duvet cover, or whatever else it is).

You are so lucky!!! In my dreams I only have to wash my hair once a week!! I took a course of roaccutane several years ago and that was the best side effect- no greasy hair and hair washing twice a week or so. Pure heaven. Lucky you!!! You're not gross, you're totally jammy!!

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 10/10/2016 20:23

I shower daily and rinse my hair with warm water while I'm in there, but I only shampoo it once or twice a week. It's super wavy and any more than that, and it gets all fluffy and weird. Like candy floss. Not a good look.

jamdonut · 10/10/2016 20:25

In the Summer I need to wash my hair every 3 days or so. In the winter I can go a week.
The longest I went ,once, was a fortnight, and actually it had started to look OK again, though my skin started to break out in spots!
I use Batiste, occasionally, but that makes my head itch and scalp get spotty, so it has to be only if I'm short of time.

HermioneJeanGranger · 10/10/2016 20:25

Lucky! I wash mine everyday or it looks like someone has rubbed olive oil all over my scalp. It's a right pain.

ElectricMelon · 10/10/2016 20:27

I wash mine once a week but I shower daily.

My hair is down to my bum so I despise washing it and combing it after it's been washed so I guess I'm lucky that it doesn't get greasy and I don't have to wash it often!

Amethyst81 · 10/10/2016 20:28

If that's best for you then fine, some dry hair doesn't need frequent washing. That woman is just being rude and judgemental, I bet she's like that over loads of other things too. I would be polite to her but not reveal too much or get into and kind of meaningful conversation in the future.

DangerousBeanz · 10/10/2016 20:30

Another weekly washer, long thick wavy dry hair.

I have long thick hair and wash every 3 days, so twice a week or occasionally more if I'm going out for an evening. Never looks greasy, either, just shiny and swingy.

My mum always said the more you wash it the more it needs washing, so I've always tried to keep it to a minimum. I'd love to be able to get away with once a week.

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 10/10/2016 20:32

I wash my hair every day. Surely, if you leave it as long as a week - or longer ugh - it will smell of sebum. Just because you don't smell it yourself, doesn't mean others don't...

Liiinoo · 10/10/2016 20:34

I used to be able to go a week but as I have got older and my hair has got thinner it's now 5 days max. We are all different. She is a moo.

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 10/10/2016 20:34

Think hairdressers approve of daily washing. Leaving it etc is probably an old wives' tale.

Meadows76 · 10/10/2016 20:35

I odnt quite understand only having to wash it once a week Becausie doesn't look greasy. It's still dirty? Like if I walk about all day my hair is the most exposed part of me, it picks up EVERYTHING, body not so much as it's covered, but for people washing once a week surely your hair must be grubby?

YuckYuckEwwww · 10/10/2016 20:36

Think hairdressers approve of daily washing.
course they do! they sell "deep conditioning treatments" to people who've stripped their hair bare!

Nonotmenori · 10/10/2016 20:38

I'll be gross with you OP I only wash my hair once a week too. I don't need to wash it any sooner as its long and takes ages to wash, dry and straighten. I just cba.
