I know gender norms are crap but I think this is a bit far, I'm guessing she purposely brought these to prove a point. DS does have a lot of blue stuff and there isn't anything pink in sight, I don't know really, I just buy what I like while he is so small. If he liked them I'd buy them for him but he's so young and doesn't have a preference yet so it seems stupid to purposely buy pyjamas that are aimed at girls.

My ds can wear whatever he wants when he's older. He wants to wear a pink dress with sparkles, fine. But whilst he's young he will be wearing boys clothes

I don't think they're that girly. It's only the colour, not the theme that's girly, and even then there's no reason a boy can't wear pink. Has she maybe read him a story about giraffes in the past or something? Maybe just ask her what her thinking was?

I wouldn't buy them as a gift for a boy, it does seem odd definitely. If they specifically wanted them then that's different.

We live a few hours away from each other, we aren't that close, but see each other once a month. She does talk a lot about how I'll be giving him a complex because of all the blue (I'm not that bad, I promise!) so I assume that was definitely her point

I don't think they're super girly, other than being pink. My sister would have bought them for her son. But if you only dress your son in blue and your sister knows that, then yes, it's odd.

People who use present-buying for other people's kids as a soapbox to show off how "right on" they are really boil my urine.

Grow up, get over yourselves, and buy something that might actually get used.

I have two boys, but if I did have a girl, I wouldn't buy those as they're too girly.

Hmm I see, she's making a point. Well, I guess she probably chose ones she thought were just slightly girly -- i.e. pink but with a gender-neutral design. I think it would have been a bit off for her to buy disney princess ones or something, but would assume that this is just a way of saying that you can have nice things that aren't stereotypically boyish? I wouldn't bat an eyelid if I saw a little boy in these, I have to say (whereas obviously I wouldn't have a problem with disney princess-wear on a boy, but I would "notice" it).

I'd have no problem putting a baby boy in hand me downs from a big sister that are pink, but these would have to go because they'd piss me off every time I saw them. It's not her baby & it's not her place to make a point of 'balance out your parenting' as though you were doing something awful.

I hate this kind of passive aggressive point making some people do - if you want to say something about my parenting just say it!!

Reminds me of my SIL who bought my 2 year old a torch and a book so that 'when he wakes up at night he can just amuse himself instead of waking you up' - we planned and enjoyed co-sleeping at that point and had no desire to make him stop!

She is definitely making a point , ignore ,but I'd regift them , if your DS chooses to wear pink / hearts when he's big enough to choose then fine but I'd not give her the satisfaction if he's not bothered . Actually they are not even that nice .

They're exactly the kind of PJs I'd give to my niece, just to annoy SIL who didn't want her DD to wear girls clothes.

I think it's a bit odd as he's young, and she knows you prefer the blue or typically boys colours/pjs.

All my DDs pjs and sleep suits are boys at the moment, not for any gender equality thing, just because I preferred them to the girls sets of flowers and "pretty princess" slogans.... Could she have bought them as they're her preference as well as pushing gender equality too??

Even though I know she did it to be an arse I'm surprised there's so many people who wouldn't just use them as day to day pyjamas. I would see it as two pairs less that I have to buy and put him in them, they're only nightwear. I'd spend the money on something else!
