To think that it was an easy mistake to make

I ordered my DS a new pair of wellies the other day for his 2nd birthday and my nana has bought him the matching coat. Well today the wellies came and they are an adult's size 6 rather than a child's, silly mistake on my behalf as I should have read correctly when selecting the size.
Here's the thing though, the coat is available from 2-8 yrs, yet it turns out the boots only start from child size 8 (which according to the retailer's guide is suitable for 3 1/2 year old), however they go right up to an adults 7 even though the retailer labels it as a 'junior child' size.
Clearly this is not a serious issue but I guess I just want to know if AIBU to be baffled that the retailer would make matching items that do not correlate in sizes and that they would consider an adult's size 7 shoe to be a junior child's, especially in said wellies which are clearly very child orientated in design

Yabu, that's weird. Is it a child's design though?

Catsize · 08/10/2016 23:35

Not sure really. However, it is always daft to correlate age and shoe size. My 2yr old is a size 9. Drives me bonkers with socks when they only put 'age 2-4' on them for example.

Maybe my 2yr old will be an adult's size 7 shoe when 8yrs old. We're going to put her in for waterskiing. Without the skis.

BikeRunSki · 08/10/2016 23:38

Does seem a little odd, and I probably would have made the same mistake. Which brand? My 8 year old would love patterned wellies, but there's not a lot in adult size 3 for boys

BackforGood · 08/10/2016 23:41

I'm confused by the concept of 'matching coat and wellies' Confused

Summerisdone · 08/10/2016 23:46

The wellies and coat are from Joules and are really very lovely for a child, not so much an adult though I wouldn't have thought.

I do appreciate that some children will have larger feet but according to the website's own size guide the size 7 are approximately suitable for a 13/14 year old so at least make the coat available for that age, and also make the boots available for a two year old if the coat is. Like I said, my mistake for not reading properly, but I really am baffled that the shoes and coats aren't available in at least the same 'approximated age range'

To think that it was an easy mistake to make

Can't see many 13 year olds going for those wellies!

Summerisdone · 08/10/2016 23:50

BackforGood the coat and wellies have matching patterns

AnthonyPandy that was my thoughts exactly Grin

That's bonkers!

I hope DS wasn't too dsappointed.

Pythonesque · 09/10/2016 00:19

In my family we reach size 7 shoes at around age 10-11. Mind you, clothes have to be age +2 as well.

QuackDuckQuack · 09/10/2016 00:20

That's weird. If you're looking for little wellies the Debenhams has a range with handles - great for toddlers to put on themselves.

DecaffCoffeeAndRollupsPlease · 09/10/2016 00:21

How frustrating!

AnthonyPandy · 09/10/2016 00:51

Do you think Joules made a mistake when they ordered them from the factory (or wherever they get them made up)?

CatchIt · 09/10/2016 01:35

YANBU, I had that child's shoe sizes are so complicated. Why not give them letters instead of numbers as I'm always worried about an adults pair arriving through the post!

raspberrysuicide · 09/10/2016 01:42

No self respecting 13 yr old is going to be seen dead in some wellies and a matching coat like that!
I love Joules stuff but I agree that's got to be a mistake as only little children would wear them.

BikeRunSki · 09/10/2016 04:03

CatchIt because letters are used to refer to shoe width?

Joules would hate me, I was an adult size 9 when I was 12!

blueturtle6 · 09/10/2016 08:02

Yanbu, I am just entering the realms of this with a walking 1year, can get her waterproof clothes but no size 3 wellies. Double socks for puddle jumping this year!

Summerisdone · 09/10/2016 10:19

I re-checked the Joules website and it's definitely not a mistake on their side, it appears that all of their children's wellies go from kid's 8 to an adult's 7. I truly don't know any teenagers or adults that would ever been seen in wellies like these though. Oh well, I'll just have to look around and try to find a plain pair, though now I've got he arse-ache of returning these things and waiting for a refund: the reason I hate online shopping Angry

Some small kids have big feet though I guess. My boy just turned 11 last month is an adult 8. Annoying as I now have to pay adult prices for a not yet teen. Though to be fair he wouldn't be seen dead in those wellies, he's far too cool Wink

BackforGood · 09/10/2016 13:52

Funky wellies are quite "in" with teens.

Obviously not coats though.....

BikeRunSki · 09/10/2016 14:37

blue you can get size 3 wellies from Jojomaman. Also Next I think and maybe Mothercare, but definitely Jojo.

I've got size 6 feet and I can't see any teen or adult wearing those wellies , how ridiculous ,they are obviously designed for small children and definitely under 10s .

FleurThomas · 09/10/2016 14:51

Girls will often get their adult foot size at 13/14. I was an adult 7 by then.

BikeRunSki · 09/10/2016 15:03

Just as an aside, our local shoe shop had stopped selling Joules wellies because they'd had so many returns due to leakage.
