How old is too old for trainers as leisure wear?

I'm thinking of buying some trainers, mostly for cycling but also for leisure wear too. They're Adidas Sambas I'm 37 and am slightly worried that I'll look a bit mutton dressed as lamb or someone who never moved on from Britpop.

No such thing as too old!

i used to think like that and wouldnt have dreamed of buying a pair of trainers but now I have some black and white ones and I rather like them but they don't have obvious branding on them. I would feel a bit silly in a pair of Nike AirMax for example.

I am 35. I wear trainers.

I'm 44 and I acquired a pair of adidas hamburgs this year as well as a pair of adidas SL72's. Wear them all the time :)

Trainers are more appropriate the older you get, surely? Prioritising comfort. I'm mid 30s and feel like I'm almost old enough for trainers.

Or just said sod it and not cared about any perceived and self-imposed "rules" about what to wear at what age.

My dads in his sixties and wears trainers. He even has some limited edition ones that he is keeping for his funeral. He refuses to be buried dress shoes

Here elderly people frequently wear athletic shoes. Often with track suits. No one would bat an eye at you wearing them.

Well I'm nearly 50 and wore a similar outfit to this a couple of days ago. My dress was a bit longer and legs a bit shorter but think I looked OK.

43 and I have a lovely pair of pink Adidas gazelles. I'll always wear trainers until I die.

1. No one is too old to wear trainers
2. Don't buy those trainers, they are horrible
3. You are far too young to use the term "leisure wear"

My old man is in his 70s and doesn't own any shoes except trainers and serious walking boots. HTH.

Never. Though my dad did go to Velcro at about 85. I remember the excitement in about 1977 when we all got a pair for the summer !

Trainers are the only shoes I feel comfortable in. I usually wear Vans but I have 2 pairs of Superga I bought in the sale that I can't wait to wear. I'm 45 years old & as far as I'm concerned with trainers its "till death do us part". I do have a pair of New Balance in the back of the cupboard that I used to wear for jogging, but I'm never going to go jogging again so they're going to come out as everyday shoes too.

I bought some Gazelles last month. I'm 40 in 2 weeks time.

They look better with dresses/skirts than jeans.
