Does anyone in scotland know what is happening?

With the flu vaccinations for the 2-5 year olds and not yet in school? I recieved dds letter last week (telling me to contact my gp about the arrangements) and they have nothing set up and told me to call them back in a couple of weeks but according to the leaflet they need 2 doses if it is their 1st time recieving the vaccine. They end in december so i'm getting a bit worried about it, does anyone have any idea? (nasal spray)

I was given a form to complete for my DD (5) giving permission for her to have the nasal spray at school (Edinburgh). Haven't heard anything further & DD would have told me if she had had it done. Perhaps after the half term?

I think they only need two doses if it's the jag they are getting?

Almost all children will only need one dose of the vaccine. However, if your child is under 9 years old AND has a health condition AND is getting the flu vaccine for the first time, they will need a second dose (4 weeks after the first) to make sure their immunity has fully built up.

I got my daughters letter today but I haven't called the doctors about it yet

Also my daughter got it last year for the first time and it's 2 doses one up each nostril not sure about this year though.

I got my son's letter last week and made an appointment with our gp for first week November as that's their first flu clinic day. We're in Edinburgh.

I'm in Scotland and overheard the receptionist on Monday mentioning that the under 16's should be in next week.

TheMshipIsBack Our receptionist told me to call back in a couple of weeks and they will have a better idea of whats going on.
She won't tell me if its a clinic day or by appointment only. She put me through to the manager who wouldn't even let me speak (told me she's going to have a word with dds health visitor) and then hung up.

In my experience they usually do it as a clinic.

I got the letters for my two (aged 2 and 4) yesterday and have tried to phone the GP twice and it's been engaged both times so far.

I'll call back next week and see if they have anything set up, we're less than 20 miles away from edinburgh.

I got a letter on Monday, phoned GP practice Tuesday lunchtime to find it was actually Flu Clinic Day and Ds had his vaccine at 16.30 that afternoon!

He had a nasal spray, half the dose up each nostril.

My P1 child had the spray last Friday in school. DS1 has a jag at the doctors flu clinic due to a health condition.

We have had letters (school and preschool) but no nasal spray done yet. Preschool is booked for end of month, assume school will be after half term

DD got her letter today, so I'll phone the surgery. The DSs will get theirs at school but haven't yet. Midlothian.

DH phoned last week and managed to make an appointment for himself, but was told they didn't have kids appointments yet, but expected to have them set up by the end of the month.

My dm has got her appointment, i think its at a local church at a set time.

Finally got through to the GP surgery on the 6th phone call, only to be told that they haven't yet received the vaccine so they can't organise the clinics yet. FFS. The receptionist was fairly incredulous that I could be phoning yet - I surely can't be the first to have called! And it's not my fault that one part of the NHS is sending out letters to parents while another part hasn't yet got its arse in gear and organised vaccine delivery.

Anyway, she said to call back at the end of next week. Great. Am in Midlothian too.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar that was the same response i got, why would they send the letters out so early if the gps aren't ready yet? I can't make an appointment to get my own one until they have completed the clinic for the adults (was told this should be after the 19th)

Same here. Asked at GP surgery yesterday and they said they'll send at appointment letter out for the vaccination.

I think the letter we have all been sent is such a waste of money. It tells us to phone the GP who isn't ready or will be sending out their own appointments. That's a lot of wasted time for those taking the calls at the surgeries.

Sharesinpampers i agree its a waste of time/money. They should just send out letters with appointments on them like the the adult clinics.

We only got our supply of children's nasal flu vaccination on Tuesday. We don't arrange clinics until we have it in our hands as the supply chain is a bit iffy. Every surgery does it differently. We have a drop in clinic on 15th October and also offer pre and post nursery appointments.
Each child gets one dose- unless they are in the "at risk" group,
All childrens vaccines should be given by end of December
