To join the Liberal Democrats?

I have watched the Tory -UKIP- conference with a mounting sense of horror. The casual 'othering' of non-native British, the priority given to cutting immigration no matter what the economic consequences, the naked nationalism, the dismissal of the educated, the increased power in a PM who wants to bypass an elected parliament. This is not the tolerant, welcoming country I thought I lived in.

Corbyn has rendered Labour unelectable. Anyone else on for joining the Liberal Democrats?

I fhtey can get their act together and put together a credible opppostiion, I will consider voting for them. I'm a Socialist, and dont feel that New Labour represent me. I dont think any party will.
Jogn Smith was the last politician I trusted, and I dont believe anyone like him would prosper in todays political climate.

I heard Tim Farron on Jeremy Vine the other day and he talked sense to me. I'd vote for them if it was tactical to do so though I'm usually Labour.

HOW!!?? HOW!!?? do you join the liberal democrats? They are like a secret society you hear rumours about but can never track down! I tried for months, before the last election. Ok, they have a website and will take money and bury you in emails, but try and find a local branch, and you know, attend a meeting or something.......well, I went around to all the addresses I got from the central website, nothing but bemused faces, and one " o yeah, I think he went to Slovakia"

Why not the Greens?

The greens are living in cloud cuckoo land, their policies are not even any good for the environment any more, being totally unrealistic and unworkable. The Lib dems are the next best option, and may well green up a bit more, if they are picking up the green defectors

I was a member of the Green Party until they decided to classify women into the category of "non-male".

I've joined. I can't vote labour with Corbyn and the Tory polices make me so angry at the unjustness of it all.

I was never a member but always voted Lib Dem until it became apparent that sexual harassment and assault had been rife in the party and Clegg had known and done nothing about it.

I am a Labour Party member (not a particularly active one, deliver a few leaflets) and after the 2015 I thought I really should do more to help get a Labour Govt next time. Was shocked at the Tory majority.

Then came Corbyn. Not once, but twice. Labour have effectively made themselves unelectable and they have a leader who favours Brexit.

Seriously thinking of leaving Labour and joining the Lib Dems.

I don't think the Lib dems offer much tbh. Can be debated endlessly but for lots of ex SDP type workers they will never vote for them again due to coalition and do the more right wing, free trade liberal types in the party offer anything different to the Tories? I don't think the lib dems are going to have much relevance for along time

I'm a Liberal Democrat and so's my wife sister.

I joined after the last election when our excellent LibDem MP lost his seat to a useless spineless Tory yes- man, and she joined after the referendum result. I'm hoping they start to rebuild from here, but they do need Nick Clegg back. It's increasingly clear that they reined in Tory excesses during the Coalition, and that the Tories were just out to use and destroy them by playing the long game. But really what other option did they have in 2010? They always said they believed in power sharing, so when they chance arrived of course they had to take it.

I wouldn't because of Tim Farron and some of his views, they seem at odds with those of a liberal leader.

I think nowadays people often decide against voting for a particular party because of one thing, despite the party being overall a best fit for them in comparison with other parties. It's partly because of modern media I guess - we know details about them we wouldn't have known before. Our demands and expectations are higher, but then we end up not voting for anyone.

I joined them too after Brexit. Yes, they did not stop the ConDem coalition from raising tuition fees, but I agree that they stopped the worst ravages.
I used to vote Labour, but have moved to a different part of the country where Labour would never have a chance, Corbyn or not.
LibDems are the only ones who have consistently talked sense about Europe.

Reading The Times today, I was struck by how negative its coverage of Theresa May's Conservative party was. How worrying the anti-immigrant rhetoric where even sensible policies like increasing places for medical training, are unnecessarily linked with an objective of getting rid of immigrants. Where a British Prime Minister appeals in a speech to those that have lost their job due to low-skilled immigration (despite the lack of any evidence), and where people who travel, are educated and have foreign friends are 'citizens of nowhere'. How nasty and parochial this is.

We need the LibDems to be a mass movement.

I think there is a huge "gap in the political market" at the moment which the LibDems could fill very well.

I think they'd need to get serious about winning though, and probably bring back Nick Clegg.

That won't happen unless all those people who say "I'd vote for them but they're not big/powerful/credible enough" actually, well, VOTE for them!
