AIBU to expect school to tell parents about "racist/religious" remarks?

Hi, My daughter is 9 and in a majority Asian school (she is White British).

Last week her "best friend" said she couldn't play with the group if she couldn't read this and showed her some paper written in Punjabi. Obviously she couldn't read it. The girl then said you cant be in our group/play with us because you are not Sikh.

My daughter told the teacher and they were told off.

AIBU to think that their parents should be told about it? AIBU to think they should be told to apologise?

Not sure whether to see the teacher and ask for parents to be involved. The girl now refuses to play with my daughter because she told on her!

I'm in shock, this girl is usually really lovely and is old enough to know how wrong this is.

just contact the school and ask if it was followed up. You will not be allowed to know how it was followed up, but you should be reassured it was taken seriously

It sounds like it was a one off incident and dealt with by the school at the time. Sounds fine to me.

Actually the school should log this as a racist incident and absolutely should speak to the girls parents about it. How old are the girls? If they school are any good they should have organised some sort of assembly/circle time to talk through such issues.

The school may well have done all this anyway. I am not one for encouraging parents to make a fuss over most things but I would certainly be asking the teacher what has happened in this case.
