I'm apparently not sophisticated enough to be getting the edgy humour because it's just 'bants' but frankly after that documentary I don't want to even think about JS let alone have my twat of a partner creep up behind me doing this.

Some comedy is meant to be distasteful. Frankie Boyle, for example, really pushes the boundaries.
It's one of the functions of comedy.

But then I also object to anyone doing an impersonation of Hitler, although most people don't seem to have an issue with that. I know people who would find a Savile impersonation distasteful but not a Hitler one. "Yeah, but he was mad, wasn't he, so it's not the same. Being a paedophile is far worse." (and yes, I have heard that said). Both deserve to burn in Hell. But it's OK to impersonate the one who was responsible for the deaths of countless millions of people.

I think in the privacy of your own home it wouldn't necessarily be a problem for your DP to do this IF you also found it funny. You don't, so he shouldn't.

You'd need to pick your audience. In a group of friends who like e.g. Frankie Boyle and Cards Against Humanity, fine. In a fundraising meeting for a children's hospital, inappropriate. I would find it funny in the pub but would shudder at work.

No you can't ban comedy you don't like or approve of but that's not what the OP is asking is it? Her personal feelings are as valid as someone who doesn't mind it, so she won't actively seek out and attend shows where impressions like this will take place. She shouldn't have to tell her partner to stop it all the time, he should have some respect for her!

I'm not trying to ban edgy comedy but I don't like it for the same reason I don't find rape jokes funny.

It's in appalling taste, and I would suspect the motives of someone dredging up the mannerisms of a criminal of the worst sort for public amusement. It is not 'edgy', it is crass mimicry.

When someone comes up with original, inventive material for entertainment then they might get my respect.

I just don't want to be reminded of Jimmy Saville in any way, by anyone and never did. Even when he was still alive and it hadn't all come out just what he had done. He was always completely revolting and disgusting , so I don't want to see a photo or hear any impressions or anything. To have a husband who thought it was funny to impersonate him would be really infuriating.

In fact, thinking about it, it's as if your husband thinks the things JS did are a bit funny and he finds it amusing in some twisted way. Unacceptable and sick.
