To ask if you think 6 fish fingers is too many for a 3 year old boy to have for dinner?

along with half a 400g run of baked beans and chips.

Need to settle an arguement.

Cheers

My 3 yr old would eat 6 if allowed . I allow her 2/3 and give her a million veg to go with them

MiniEggsForAll · 06/10/2016 17:39

My 15m ds ate 4 fish fingers & 3 vegetable fingers other night, I wasnt concerned Confused

toodles60 · 06/10/2016 17:46

way too much. You keep feeding him that amount of food in one meal and he will be an obese child and adult. Common sense that its too much fgs and you shouldn't have to ask anyone to know that already

jacqroberts68 · 06/10/2016 17:59

I have a 15 year old who's nearly 6ft tall and that's his portion size and even he would struggle.

chazf09 · 06/10/2016 18:01

Depends what he's ate that day. My 10year old and 7 year old could easily eat 6 fish fingers chips beans n bread

She didn't feed it to him.

Duh.

6 fish fingers...200g of baked beans, and chips?

Yes. My 10yo with a hearty appetite would struggle with that.

Craigie · 06/10/2016 18:04

It's 4 too many.

AreWeHumanOrAreWeDancers · 06/10/2016 18:09

What's all this feeding chips to kids ffs?

Obv. as this is MumsNet it's only 'a few chips' or 'a small handful of chips'
...but they're the crappiest nutritional choice! Jeeeez!
If you don't introduce them to toddlers they won't ask for/expect them - and let's face it every DC on here is going to grow up and have loooooads of opportunities to buy/eat chips (with/without gravy/mushy peas/curry sauce etc) for the rest of their lives! So why stuff them into them when they're living in blissful ignorance of the temptation that the evil humble devilish chip provides! Halo

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 06/10/2016 18:15

Basini... Do you have shares in Birdseye or Findus or something? I've been thinking about fishfingers ALL day now - not just six of them either... I'm completely brainwashed about the delicious little orange buggers now! Grin

maddiemookins16mum · 06/10/2016 18:16

My DD (12) has chips (quite a few) once a week. It won't harm her FFS!!

tygarugby · 06/10/2016 18:25

Yes……but there are days when I would be glad if my kids ate anything……Halo

JugglingFromHereToThere · 06/10/2016 18:37

I'd start with 2 or possibly 3. Then maybe one more on request?

AMJ3 · 06/10/2016 18:43

Depends where u live. British fish finger is equal to 2.5 American fish fingers.

Nicketynac · 06/10/2016 18:43

MIL made my four year old seven chicken goujons last week. Not even nuggets. Actual big goujons. Plus mash and sweetcorn. Luckily he wasn't at the table yet and I was able to intervene (he is greedy and would have made a good attempt at eating them all) but she looked at me like I was crazy even though she knows we are concerned about his diet.

Ghanagirl · 06/10/2016 18:44

Definitely way too much!
I have boy/girl twins age 8 who do lots of sports and although DS has more grown up taste in food my son eats more but wouldn't give him 6 fish fingers with beans and chips!
It's going to make this poor child overweight and unhealthy😕

neveradullmoment99 · 06/10/2016 18:45

Its far too much. someone told me that you should feed your child a 'fist' sized portion. Not sure if that is true. Did he eat it all?

BasinHaircut · 06/10/2016 18:50

never yes he ate it all apparently! I don't know how many chips he had because I wasn't there, but know it was half tin of beans because she left the other half in the tin in my fridge which annoys the fuck out of me but that's another story

OMG, I'be just dreamed up a sandwich made out of 3 fish fingers and using waffles as the bread. What an useful thread.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 06/10/2016 18:54

Doubt if it was many chips as well as all that!
In which case some fish and some beans = quite a healthy dinner?

busymummy2010 · 06/10/2016 18:54

That portion is far too big, at that age mine would have 2, plus chips and either a generous portion of peas or beans. 1 tin of beans is enough for my 4 children aged 2, 5, 6 & 10.

My 2 year old will have 1 fish finger and a plate of peas (she hates chips) the other 3 will have 3 fish fingers.

I do pudding too though, usually a piece of fruit but occasionally a piece of cake if we've had a birthday/Christmas recently or I'll make a crumble etc.

rebbles · 06/10/2016 19:01

Yes! Even I would only eat half a tin of beans and maximum 4 fish fingers!

multivac · 06/10/2016 19:01

Erm, chips aren't 'the crappiest nutritional choice'. They are potatoes. I doubt very much that everyone is deep frying them at home - so you're talking about potatoes with a bit of vegetable oil. What's the problem?

ScaredFuture99 · 06/10/2016 19:12

It sounds a lot but then my dcs would probably have eaten that at that age given the chance!
There would be an issue if he was eating like this everyday. But as a one off, I can't see the issue.

The other issue is the fact he can't feel yet when he is full and to know that he needs to stop. So what's you've learnt there is that you will have to teach him!

ScaredFuture99 · 06/10/2016 19:15

The issue multi account is that it's not 'a little bit of vegetable oil' but a lot. And the fact that the oil used will be full of trans fat (very bad for your health) and finally the fact that they aren't potatoes but process potato mask with a very high glycemic index.
It is a world away from some potatoes put in the oven at home.
