I know I have reached 'that age' when

I treat myself to an electric blanket.

Now, I will clarify that I don't know what 'that age' is but I feel that my excitement over my new electric under blanket probably means I have reached it!

How did you reach 'that age'?

Oh yes. Hold fire. I'll see if I've still got it.

cozietoesie · 05/10/2016 15:18

Calm down, Katie. You don't even know whether there's anything you want to use it on yet. Grin

PinkissimoAndPearls · 05/10/2016 15:19

Your DD sounds ace! My proudest parenting moment was having to pick up a supposedly poorly DD from school reception and another pupil said to her "ohmygod your mum's hair is like amazing" I have reminded DD of this every single minute day since it happened.

The only thing stopping me having an electric blanket is that I can't as I have an electric bed I would probably either electrocute myself or take out the electricity for miles around Grin

PinkissimoAndPearls · 05/10/2016 15:21

There's always something you need in Lakeland!!!

And it's a trip out in the car. Some even have cafes so you can have a special day out. In your Volvo.

cozietoesie · 05/10/2016 15:21

You mean your electric bed doesn't have a heating facility? Shock

KatieScarlett · 05/10/2016 15:22

I will find something cozie
If there is one thing I like more than overpriced non-essential warming items, it's a money off coupon for overpriced non-essential warming items Grin

PinkissimoAndPearls · 05/10/2016 15:23

Sadly no heating but it has a massage function. Although it makes a buzzing noise which doesn't sound suspicious coming from the bedroom at all.

KatieScarlett · 05/10/2016 15:25

And what Pink said, except in DH case, it's a Renault Megane (I did cry a bit when he got it, TBH).

cozietoesie · 05/10/2016 15:26

Well that's still letting down the side a bit, Pink. Grin

PinkissimoAndPearls · 05/10/2016 15:30

A Renault Megane? Yeah that's worse, sorry Grin

Can I redeem myself by using a hot water bottle? I actually have a microwavable heat pad which slips into a belt so I can wear it around my waist. Accessorised by microwaveable slippers. Oh God.

You know Lakeland sell those little boxes to attach to your letterbox to catch your post so you don't have to bend down and make the oof noise when you're picking up the new Lakeland catalogue

EtTuTuttiFrutti · 05/10/2016 15:32

DH is in the recycling bin as we speak. Hunting and gathering the Lakeland voucher. Bless.
I was very attracted to the spiralizer in the catalogue and was going to get one, until DH pointed out that I don't cook.
He's got a point.

I might cook if I got to do something exciting with courgettes.

KatieScarlett · 05/10/2016 15:42

I have not cooked since I met DH. Actually, I did once when I was wooing him. Carbonara IIRC. He reminds me of this frequently as I pass gaily through his kitchen. Despite this, I still love Lakeland and have also asked DH if he fancies a spiralizer. He makes Angry face, can't think why?

EtTuTuttiFrutti · 05/10/2016 15:43

Sorry Katie it's gone, but do not despair.
Go in, buy a spoon or something really cheap and register your address.

They then send you a catalogue and a voucher.

cozietoesie · 05/10/2016 15:50

A catalogue and a voucher? You're one heck of a temptress, EtTu. Grin

EtTuTuttiFrutti · 05/10/2016 15:51

I know this Grin

KatieScarlett · 05/10/2016 15:52

I'm on it.

JigokuShojou · 05/10/2016 18:08

And I thought being 31 meant that I was old.

brasty · 05/10/2016 18:16

31 is young.

CharleyDavidson · 05/10/2016 18:37

Badders, my DH is also a freak who never feels the cold. It was he who bought me the single sized electric blanket that only goes on my side of the bed. He's happy, I'm happy. It's all good.

MaQueen · 05/10/2016 18:38

I went out with my girlfriends at the weekend. I thought I looked stylishly understated... DD1 observed 'Well, you do look comfy Mummy'

Damn her, with her glossy skin, endless legs and a tummy so taut you can bounce your car keys off it...

JigokuShojou · 05/10/2016 18:41

I know I have reached 'that age' when

The thought of going clubbing-esp. here in Hong Kong-makes housework appealing. It's hours of constant walking, being squished in a stinking club, manhandled by bouncers, lots of uphill walking, aching feet, expensive soft drinks.................

I love rearranging stuff in the flat, esp. the kitchen.
Kitchenware, esp. here in the kitchenware district, has me going gaga.
I am taking up sewing/knitting/crochet/...........
Cookbooks (Ramsay, Oliver etc.) are porn to me. Good thing they cost a lot here otherwise............
I'd sooner be at home than most places.
I joined a book club.
I started reading Mrs. Beeton's books, I reserved them from the library.
I started to care about home decor....
I started planning early for xmas...........I have a homemade pudding in the freezer from last year. I even collaborate on menus.
I decided that private and low-key was preferable to OTT. and garishly flashy as regards birthdays.

BakeOffBiscuits · 05/10/2016 20:50

I was being given a lesson on contact lenses wearing. The lady was telling me the dos and donts. She stressed you must never leave them in at night, do not sleep in them, she said.

I heard myself ask "how about if you have a little nap in the afternoon?".

She gave me a look! she was only about 25Hmm

largerleon · 05/10/2016 21:01

Crying at some of these 😂😂 it's true, I identify with most of them! Haven't got a leccy blanket (yet) but have shares in Lakeland!

I too have a proudest parenting moment, when picking DD1 (14) up from her school dance show, one of her friends going 'ohmygod is that your mum I thought it was your auntie or something'. I was Grin, DD was Hmm
Another time one of her other friends told her she liked my hair. It was a while before I found that out Grin
I'm 48 and embracing being a full time student.

Oysterbabe · 05/10/2016 21:05

If I'm going on a rare night out I look forward to having an excuse to sit on the sofa all day the next day drinking coffee and feeling slightly hungover than the night out.

Oysterbabe · 05/10/2016 21:06

I look more forward I should say.
