Please tell me why anyone would want to live in London

I love London to visit, but I am glad to leave. Please tell me why anyone would pay extashionate prices to live in an over crowded, expensive place, why not live on the out skirts and pop in and out when you feel like it?

Please tell me why you give a shit?

outputgap · 01/10/2016 23:16

The schools are excellent, hence loads of us can spell extortionate.

TheWitTank · 01/10/2016 23:16

Because they like it? Because we are not all the same?

FanDabbyFloozy · 01/10/2016 23:17

Not again! We have several London bashing threads per week these days.

roasted · 01/10/2016 23:19

This is a glorious city; you couldn't pay me to live anywhere else. I bloody love London and feel privileged to live here.

Unicorn1981 · 01/10/2016 23:19

We lived there for four years. I wasn't that keen at first but I loved it. There was always something to do and when I had dd I made loads of friends. Only moved out because I wanted to be closer to family. The rents are extortionate though!

HalloToJasonIsaacs · 01/10/2016 23:20

Because by living in London proper DH and I each save a good hour a day which we can spend with our family. That's a huge addition to our spare time. Also we don't pay extortionate prices to live here because we're in our late forties and bought when it was entirely affordable.

WorraLiberty · 01/10/2016 23:21

This thread will tell you all you need to know.

I think people get a bit fed up of repeating themselves on this subject, so this should help you.

Teddy1970 · 01/10/2016 23:21

London is fab, I love it...best city in the world IMO.

idontlikealdi · 01/10/2016 23:21

Money. Diversity. Education.

Crumbelina · 01/10/2016 23:22

Yawn. That's the nudge I need to go to bed. Night all.

DetailedConfusion · 01/10/2016 23:22

No idea. Personally I couldn't bear it but different strokes. It's a good job everyone has different preferences or we'd all be squashed into the same County wouldn't we?

Barbadosgirl · 01/10/2016 23:22

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 01/10/2016 23:23

Because you run the risk of dying of boredom living in suburbia london

And beige just isn't my colour

Squeegle · 01/10/2016 23:24

Different strokes
Different folks
Horses for courses
What's sauce for the goose
Jack spratt could eat no fat
Etc etc etc

claraclutterbuck · 01/10/2016 23:25

I used to live in a London suburb (30 minutes on bus to Westminster). I moved far away when I had children and have never regretted it

I now spend about half my life living in a hotel in Central London and I love London again. I am considering long term renting or buying in Central London. Not sure I want to start all over again with a new massive mortgage though.

Access the theatre, wonderful museums, art galleries, restaurants.Buzz of the place

Chippednailvarnishing · 01/10/2016 23:26

You're right OP, please don't move to London, we don't want you.

Blu · 01/10/2016 23:26

Well I love living in London, AND I can also imagine why people love to live in extremely rural areas, other cities, coastal areas, mountainous areas, North, South, East West - everywhere has something for somebody.

I am glad I live here and don't pop in and out. Do you want me to list my personal reasons? Confused

Inyournightdress · 01/10/2016 23:27
Biscuit
HobnailsandTaffeta · 01/10/2016 23:29

Well I wouldn't as I'm a country girl but if I could get over the panic of not being able to see the far distance I think I could be persuaded! Always something happening, an energy on the streets, wonderful shops and restaurants and galleries and history!

Where else could you see a cyclist chucking his bike at a cabbie during a traffic jam at 1am 😀

Love stopping over for work. Well until I need to breathe free air again.

sparechange · 01/10/2016 23:29

Great job, lovely walk to work, gorgeous parks on our doorstep when we get home, every conceivable type of restaurant within a 5 min walk, stunning architecture everywhere we look, proper sense of community without the nosiness and gossip of a town or village

Teddy1970 · 01/10/2016 23:29

They like living in London for the same reasons you like where you live OP..family living there, schools, work, pay, diversity, you know the usual stuff we all think about..

AmeliaJack · 01/10/2016 23:32

Lloyd what an odd thread.

The answer is: jobs.

I wouldn't ever want to live in London but plenty of my friends/family have because that's where their career took them. They don't live in the outskirts because the commutes are horrendous or public transport doesn't work with their start and finish times.

Surely you don't need a thread to work that out.

PatriciaHolm · 01/10/2016 23:33

Didn't we just do this?
