Where's your lady cave?

Not a euphemism, it's the only thing I could think of for the female equivalent of a ManCave.

Just about to complete on first house and DH has already placed dibs on the basement as his domain.

Initially I was Grin at the thought of no longer having to put up with his hoards of shite hobby strewn around the home. However, now I'm a bit Envy - when do I get my own space and why's there no such thing as a lady cave?!

AIBU, do you have your own space at home?

I'm going to be taking over the conservatory Smile I have agreed I will allow the odd visitor (quite like the idea of visitors whilst I craft) but visitors will not be allowed to touch the remote control, iPads are only allowed on silent and they will also not be allowed to leave crumbs.

They will be hoovered if they leave crumbs and given a ban for a week I love them all really

GeneandFred · 02/10/2016 02:50

Yes I got the 2nd bedroom as my dressing room. DH got box room as his man cave. All my clothes, shoes, make up is in there with a lovely big dressing table. It's my heaven and I bloody love it.

We just moved and the new house is open plan but has two kind of sitting areas, one of which I'm slowly turning into my space - it has my desk in the corner and a nice sofa and chair and the piano, sadly it's impossible for it to be off limits to anyone.

Nobody else sits on the front porch though and I've made it well nice so I escape there with coffee and books, shutting the front door and not telling anyone where I am

BradleyPooper · 02/10/2016 03:34

I have a study (I work from home) but it's beautifully sparse, has my favorite painting, hardwood flooring, Asian cabinets, beautiful lighting and a rocking chair. I will often spend an hour in the evening "catching up with work"

phillipp · 02/10/2016 07:12

I used the fourth bedroom and dh uses the office.

But to be honest we both found it pointless. The fourth bedroom has been made into ds' toy room and the office has been changed into a storage room with racks of shelves.

The house is now a lot tidier. No toys in the living room that aren't being played with, no shoes and coats at the bottom of the stairs, all kids sports kits are in there etc.

I now retreat to my new lovely king size bed if I need some alone time. I love laying in bed reading.

The house is now just generally nicer to be in.

Yes Bradley a MINIMAL space, that's the dream. Why is that so hard to achieve?

I have just been asked if we should get matching desks Hmm... He's planning the invasion before I've even staked claim.

Has to be minimal, I find clutter really stressful. Nothing comes into my office except me and a cup of coffee so once it's tidy, it's easy to keep it that way. Difficult if you share space though and the rest of my house is a different matter!

KayTee87 · 02/10/2016 14:19

Yes I have the sunroom to read and listen to music in, turns out I hardly use it so we're turning it into a playroom for when our son turns 1 next year.

BadLad · 02/10/2016 14:33

One spare bedroom each for wifey and me. Hers has martial arts equipment, cookery books and a computer desk. Mine has a sofa, games machines and photography stuff. Hers overlooks the garden, mine the sea. We still have two guest rooms and a store room bedroom.

Shockers · 02/10/2016 14:36

The kitchen for when I'm feeling creative (I really love cooking) and my caravan for when I want to sit and read with the cat on my lap.

Herhighness · 02/10/2016 17:13

I have the so called guest bedroom/ my dressing room/ my sometimes bedroom. As we've been married forever I decided that rather than keep tripping over each other getting ready every day, I would have the guest bedroom as it has far more fitted wardrobes and bigger dressing table than the master bedroom. I also sleep in it occasionally due to my bad health.
I adore the room, it's decorated totally for me, designed for me, I can leave stuff out ( but never do ). It so calming and sunny and because we live in a bungalow and I am at home all day so I use it as a second sitting room.
The best thing is I have a lovely fresh flower arrangement ( not just plonked in a vase) in there every week. I know it's all a bit indulgent but I love it.
He is allowed in but rarely ventures past the doorway, well he has his shed and greenhouse ! So this is mine ! Just God help anyone that actually want to come and stay.

Littlegreyauditor · 02/10/2016 18:01

So jealous of all the owners of stables! My cave is anywhere there are horses (until recently my horse was in my converted garage, but alas horse is no longer of this earth). I enjoy the spread of calmness that horses bring; they just breathe and let you breathe alongside them. Occasionally you get a hair ruffle or a casual dunt of the head and the bad moods and stress are lost. I muck out when vexed, and scrub water buckets. A nice set of walls, the shavings all even, haynet, feed and water done, a cold evening and squeals at the gate are my closest thing to heaven on this earth. Smile
I also have big plans to build a book nook under the stairs at some point when I actually have time and energy to read a book. hollow laugh

baffledbyscience1 · 02/10/2016 18:10

Under the stairs, I love it. So cosy

Jaynesworld · 02/10/2016 18:15

My house is my lady cave Smile

I made a deal with DH, I could decorate/do whatever I wanted in the house. He could do the same in the garage.
So I have a snuggly sofa & cushions, sparky light fittings, dressing table and pretty things everywhere!
And because DH is awesome, he built me shelves for all my gardening stuff in his garage ( which took up half the wall) Grin

heron98 · 02/10/2016 18:17

I have my own seat at the dining room table that looks out over the garden. It's where I sit all the time whenever I'm at home, I even prefer it to the sofa. I feel like it's "my space" and would be most put out if DP used it.

JustCallMeKate · 02/10/2016 18:28

My stables and tack room in summer, I can spend hours out there. He's allowed in during winter to check on the horses when he comes home when it's cold and dark Wink I use the old playroom for winter which has now been turned into a lovely cosy room with tv, sofas, throws and my log burner. I let DH in sometimes if he brings wine DH has the old utility room as he does taxidermy in there and has an office downstairs. If we're both in we use the lounge. I also have my own bathroom upstairs and DH has his as mine has a bath.

vvmama92 · 02/10/2016 18:30

My current home is just "my" flat as I'm the only adult in my house, but the TV room is "mine". The whole flat is horrible, modern and cold (and cluttered with kid stuff) but that room is cosy and aesthetically cluttered and warm and just bloody wonderful. My DC are welcome in there but don't watch much TV (mainly stuff on tablet) so it's usually all mine....

My DP and I are planning to move in together within the next year so by the sound of things I better make my 'lady cave' a requirement!

wiltingfast · 31/01/2017 22:25

Bed

Though I've taken to saying loudly that I'm going early to READ, or I get company early Grin

ollieplimsoles · 31/01/2017 22:29

My office is mine, I share with dh but I work in there from home so its very much my room, I decorated it myself. Got my imac in there, my bookcase my music, all I need is a tea- making area!

bummymummy77 · 31/01/2017 22:35

I have a she shed (dh prefers to call it a bitch box) which is now a sauna (mine as dh isn't allowed to have saunas for the foreseeable).

My bedroom is my lady cave too. Everything is white, lots of cashmere throws, sheepskin rugs and Jo Malone candles and a bed nook built in to the wall. Ds keeps sneaking in a stealing bits and hiding them under his duvet.

bummymummy77 · 31/01/2017 22:36

Every where else in the house is full of trains (dd's obsession) and boats (dh's). It's a vehicle free zone.

LoupGarou · 31/01/2017 22:39

Yes, I have what I call my "ready room", I watch too much Star Trek Voyager Blush. Its actually my study/drawing room and I have a telescope in there too. I have decorated it in sort of colonial/plantation style and have floor to ceiling bookcases on two walls.
I also have a balcony off our master bedroom as solely mine as DH thought it was an unnecessary addition when we were renovating the house, hence he is banned Grin. I sit on it and watch the Aurora, the stars, the sunrise, I love it.

liz70 · 31/01/2017 22:46

Nowhere that's just mine, but we had built a summerhouse at the bottom of our back garden, whose interior decor I chose. It's tiny - 8 x 6 feet- but we have in it two sofas, a wee table and corner shelves with hot drinks making gear, small wastebin behind one of the sofas, a tv/dvd player on one wall, speakers on the wall to plug an mp3 player or phone into, hooks on the wall to hang coats etc, even an umbrella holder in one corner. Also pictures and a mirror on the wall, and shelves with angel and fairy ornaments. Matching curtains and cushion covers. And good heating from the two wall heaters, of course.

It's amazing what you can fit into a small space if you try. Grin

cafenoirbiscuit · 31/01/2017 23:11

Mine's on a Pinterest board. I have too many kids, too many of their mates, husband with Hobbies etc in the house to have anything much at present. But one day I shall have somewhere beyootiful just for me. That will be a good day.
