Where's your lady cave?

Not a euphemism, it's the only thing I could think of for the female equivalent of a ManCave.

Just about to complete on first house and DH has already placed dibs on the basement as his domain.

Initially I was Grin at the thought of no longer having to put up with his hoards of shite hobby strewn around the home. However, now I'm a bit Envy - when do I get my own space and why's there no such thing as a lady cave?!

AIBU, do you have your own space at home?

DH and I are both gamers and we used to have our consoles, TVs and loungers set up side by side, but he is too shouty when online and I can't handle loud noises so now the box room is his and I have the front room to myself as I watch TV as well.

Although if you ask the cats, all the rooms are theirs. Wink

Weneverworked · 01/10/2016 21:37

I have 'our ' bedroom, which has all DH s clothes and stuff, but he sleeps in the spare room because surprisingly I don't like snoring, clicking, farting and sweating. I also retreat there on an evening sometimes when my misophonia gets the better of me. I also have a miniscule room on the top floor with my books, sewing machine, comfy chair etc

allegretto · 01/10/2016 21:41

Very envious of all these spare rooms! I have a chair in our bedroom that is mine to curl up in - no sea view but looks out onto a banana tree. Would love a whole room though.

elastamum · 01/10/2016 21:44

I have a stable yard and a huge barn I built just for me Smile

Nakatomi · 01/10/2016 21:45

The house we bought came with a partially finished granny flat over the top of the garage (the relative it was meant to be for died suddenly and the owner decided to sell up and move abroad instead) so we finished that off with the intention of using it for relatives who come and stay.

I've commandeered it as my 'ladycave' though. Got my sewing machine, wine rack, TV and books in there. I just need to sort out getting the wifi in there and I might never have to see DP again! Grin

Nakatomi · 01/10/2016 21:46

Although as others have said, if it was up to our cats, the whole house is theirs and they just allow us to use some of the rooms occasionally.

ThymeLord · 01/10/2016 21:47

The kitchen of course!

Lindy2 · 01/10/2016 21:51

Not a room but my allotment is my place of escape and peace.

ToneDeafHamster · 01/10/2016 21:53

I have the box room as my lady cave. Its my gaming room, I have spent hours and hours in there. Its bliss.

helpimitchy · 01/10/2016 22:23

The downstairs toilet Sad

I go in there when I need a break. I watch YouTube and plot world domination.

dudsville · 01/10/2016 22:26

The spare bedroom is where I sew and Internet and whatever. Oh has his own space but it keeps the house tidy, and the house is my domain.

ChuckBiscuits · 01/10/2016 22:29

I have an allotment.

Plus an 8x8 shed, which i boight earlier this year. It is all painted and lovely and has my home made workbench in it, plus all my tools, a nice seat, all my seeds i am saving, and looks out onto my garden then onto the canal.

I let him keep his gardening gloves in there.

It is currently full of seed trays i am halfway through making.

cafenoirbiscuit · 01/10/2016 22:59

In my fantasy world I have a bedroom and bathroom all to myself. The bed linen is freshly ironed, the towels are clean, and there is always toilet roll

My stable yard too ! And my tack room . And as I'm the only person that uses it , it's immaculate . Whenever I'm in a filthy mood , I can be found rolling up bandages , or checking first aid kits . House on the other hand .....

honeyroar · 01/10/2016 23:23

The stables. Although our two horses live there, so I have to share.

OhGodWhatTheHellNow · 01/10/2016 23:31

We have a flat in the attic with a part-time tenant (his crash pad for work in this area) - I'm just waiting for him to finally retire jeezus you've been threatening to leave for eighteen feckin months now, just go already so I can grab the front room for my ladycave office. It's sunny and bright with lovely views, and it will be the only room in the house that's just mine.

My current office is dingy and shared with the cat litter, literally crappy when I work from home, and the extra work covers the rent we'll lose so win-win.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 01/10/2016 23:34

I have a box room on the second floor for my office where I work and write. Mahoosive desk, bookcase and lots of art. The whole second floor is just for me and DH though; so the kids seldom venture up. And DH has his office on the ground floor, so during the day, when we are working from home, there is a lot of shouting up and down two flights of stairs.

I am having my own garden shed next summer (belated birthday present). I am so looking forward to painting it and moving in all my naice garden bits.

AnMum · 01/10/2016 23:40

Middleoftheroad - how on earth did you wangle it that you get the bedroom to yourself plus TV and DH gets the box room?!

SanityAssassin · 01/10/2016 23:43

I have a reasonably large house (5 bed detached) but just can't get away from the buggers - they follow me everywhere demanding stuff/attention constantly. DH is the worst for needing to sit in my space and then overtake it!

Thegiantofillinois · 01/10/2016 23:43

I go to bed at 9 on Mondays. I get 2 hours before dh comes up and 4 hours until dd arrives.

I hide behind the newspaper for an hour on Saturdays.

EveOnline2016 · 01/10/2016 23:46

I'm happy with my bedroom and a curfew when dh can't enter.

tinkletinklelittlestar · 01/10/2016 23:59

This is why I want a five bedroomed house. I have a couch, it's big, brown, leather and slouchy with all my crap on it along with a big male cat.

Andro · 02/10/2016 00:03

I have my study and a garage (I restore motorbikes), dh has his study and a basement room (the contents of which are a mystery to me).

S1lentAllTheseYears · 02/10/2016 01:30

I don't have anywhere that is all mine and off limits to everyone else at present and it does get me down at times! I have areas of rooms with my things in but not a whole room.

Once the dc have moved on, I fully intend to have separate bedrooms (hopefully bagsie the ensuite for me!) and decorate mine exactly how I like it.

The other day I was dismayed to find DH had laid down and fallen asleep on my side of the bed in the middle of the day. He'd sat there to dry his hair (the hairdryer being plugged in on that side) and come over all weary so just decided to have a lie down apparantly.

It made me feel all twitchy that I don't even have half a bloody bed to myself!
