To be more careful about the titles they list in the Mumsnet Talk 'Discussions of the day' box to the right of the threads?

For example today there is listed a (partial) title which reads Woman simulates sex with headless baby... Hmm

I've seen other inappropriate titles in the past, which you might not want your dc to see. You can avoid clicking on threads with dubious titles, but you can't do anything about this. Surely there could be some judicious editing?

Dootd is discussion of the day isn't it? Not doing the deed!

DesolateWaist · 01/10/2016 17:52

What was the cunting sainbury's thread?

I do see what you mean about the truncated title there OP, it was a little shocking.

However it is not the fault of everyone else that you are using a desktop PC I'm amazed that anyone still has a desktop PC and you have it in a room where it can be seen by children.

NerrSnerr · 01/10/2016 17:53

Dotd I meant! Didn't need the two o's!

LetitiaCropleysCookbook · 01/10/2016 17:53

See, I didn't know that, being so low tech. Thank you, usual that's really helpful!

Ah, that explains it. No-one knows what I'm talking about! I don't have a smartphone, so I have to use the pc.

I know exactly what you're talking about but I still think it's your responsibility to ensure your kids don't see these things, if you have a problem with it.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/10/2016 17:54

And that's what you get for using acronyms Grin

Discussions of the Day. There are 2 tabs in that box. One is Discussions of the Day, which I think is controlled by MNHQ.

The other is trending, which is where the dinosaur thread title popped up. That is controlled by an algorithm rather than being listed by a person. That thread title was too long and got truncated in an unfortunate place, but MNHQ couldn't have controlled that so YABU to expect them to be more careful about listing the topics.

PerspicaciaTick · 01/10/2016 17:58

Discussion of the Day titles are already edited. They are fairly static and chosen by MN.

Trending titles change constantly to show the current most popular threads. They appear automatically and disappear just as fast. I doubt there is much scope to edit titles instantaneously as new threads become popular.

LetitiaCropleysCookbook · 01/10/2016 17:58

Dootd is discussion of the day isn't it? Not doing the deed!

Oh, right. Sorry! It makes sense now, but the title I mentioned was definitely in Trending.

I suggested it first

Sparklingbrook · 01/10/2016 18:01

I am now on the Mobile Site on my laptop. Seems ok. No trending or DOTD so that's really good.

LetitiaCropleysCookbook · 01/10/2016 18:03

Sorry, HoneyDragon, but as you said laptop, I didn't think it was the same for a desktop. I need it spelling out, I'm afraid! Thanks anyway.

I'd like them to curate them a bit more just so I don't get grossed out. I had to abandon ship one day because something highly descriptive about ADULT poop was constantly up there.
