So I treated myself to a pair of VB glasses. They were over £300. I then paid to have the lenses changed to optical ones, which you are meant to do as they are optical glasses.

I bought them on a trip overseas from a boutique licensed to sell VB products.

However, on returning home, one of the arms just snapped in two. You can tell by looking at the arm that it hasn't been bent, it has just snapped for no apparent reason.

I called the Victoria Beckham shop in London to ask if they could replace the arm or repair it or something. They told me it was nothing to do with them, I had to contact the shop where I bought them. I did, but they couldn't help. I called VB again to be told that because of the Sale of Goods Act, it was nothing to do with them, even though the Sale of Goods Act does not apply in the country I bought them from. I asked if they could contact the manufacturer to get a new arm, to be told again, it was nothing to do with them.

I just want a new arm, I don't want my money back or anything like that. They were very expensive, I will never have the money to replace them. I just fell really let down.

AIBU? Should I just accept it and throw them out?

Don't throw them away, write an email to VB directly and explain what happened. They should be able to help.

I did that Viviene, twice. Both were ignored. I also sent a message via Facebook. Again, ignored.

YABU - if you wanted UK customer protection you should have bought in the U.K. You don't have a receipt from them, they don't know how you obtained them. Any chance the personal possessions insurance under your domestic contents insurance will pay up? Can your optician help?

Yeah, I didn't try Twitter as I didn't want to publicly shame them. I just want a new arm for my glasses .

Of course now, I will totally out myself if I post on Twitter after this thread .

I didn't think I'd need it, to be fair. When you have paid over 300 quid for a pair of glasses, you expect them to last.

Did you pay for them on your credit card? Will the providers insurance cover them?

I did Moose, but I don't have insurance on this card.

Yes, but they said they cannot get spare parts, I need to contact VB directly for those.

Name and shame, it's the only way to get companies to step up sometimes.

The London shop have to be wrong, VB can't not have an after sales service no matter what area of the world you bought them in. I know Prada, Chanel and Ray Ban do.

Call the VB head office and speak to their head of marketing, if that doesnt work, then make a twitter complaint..

Alternatively, check with Luxotica who produce most of the designer brands, not sure if they produce VB brand.

Usually these sunglasses come with a guarantee certificate, you may still have it.

You don't need insurance for a credit card, it automatically comes with buyers protection for purchases over £100. Worth getting in touch with them.

I am wondering if the glasses you bought were genuine VB glasses because it could be that these are actually counterfeit (particularly if purchased abroad).

I would contact your local trading standards and see if they are willing to help and or examine the frames more closely.

I think those type of shops are usually not owned by VB or whatever designer,they are just licensed to sell the products, they have no responsibility to repair the glasses as you didn't buy them from there.

£300 is expensive to you fucking crazy amount to spend on a pair of sunglasses but not to them or their regular customers.

It's nothing to do with them though, the concessions are separate.

I would be very unhappy about the arm snapping, but it's not their place to fix it.

Try a local optician. I have a pair of Bulgari sunglasses with prescription lenses and the hinge snapped. They were long past warranty, but optician sent them off to be repaired and the hinge was replaced. Cost me £40, but worth it as I love them.

If you bought them on credit card and they were over £100 you are automatically protected. You don't need to have bought extra insurance. You need to contact the credit card company and be very clear that the break was definitely due to shoddy materials not accidental damage.

They can arrange a refund by forcibly reversing the transaction - for which they don't need the retailer's consent - but they can't make the manufacturer send you a replacement arm so you'll have to buy a replacement when the refund comes through.

I'd be absolutely furious to be fobbed off. VB is a brand and surely the London shop should be more helpful if one of VB's products is faulty?

I would get a bit more 'unrestrained' on Twitter and FB to be honest. VB lives by her reputation.

I know! If they just sent me the part then I could get them fixed. They still make that type, so they are still producing them.
