To Stop Going To Aldi Because I Can't Keep Up At The Checkout?

fakenamefornow · 30/09/2016 16:48

I'm not doing that 'packing shelf' business because that's just loading/unloading the trolley twice. I can't keep up with their Olympic shopping chuck and get my bags packed fast enough though. I should just give up and go back to Tesco shouldn't I?

I love Aldi and I love that I can spend time after packing my shopping so it's all together.
When I used to shop at Tesco I used to feel more rushed and all the bags were a mish mash of things

Chrisinthemorning · 30/09/2016 18:42

If it's not for you, it's not for you. I love it. Even with the packing shelf it takes me half the time of normal supermarkets, never mind the cost saving

Omg!!! I HAD to go to Morrisons today and nearly shouted at the checkout person..& customer because they are so piggin slow( they weren't particularly extra slow just slow compared to Aldi). I hated it. I love whizzing in and out of the checkout but.

Lighthouseturquoise · 30/09/2016 18:52

Yanbu. I hate Aldi. I just don't get it.

It's horrible to shop in there, they don't sell everything you need, and not everything is cheap.

Tescos online.

yetanotherdeskmove · 30/09/2016 18:54

As pps have said, chuck it all back in the trolley and then pack at the car boot. Of course this falls apart when you get back to your car boot and then realise that all your bags are in the hall at home Grin

hellsbells99 · 30/09/2016 18:54

I just put a couple of the huge bags in my trolley & throw everything in.

SheDoneAlreadyDoneHadHerses · 30/09/2016 18:57

Oh I love the packing shelf. I hate having to pack at the speed of the cashier.

However, my mum has taken to not packing at Tesco unless she's reminded where she is

HemanOrSheRa · 30/09/2016 19:03

I have the trolley bags mentioned. They are amazing. I went to Aldi this afternoon, I did a full shop and was in and out in about 30 mins. AND I was WAITING for the assistant to scan items so I could pack them, thanks to my trolley bags!

bigbluebus · 30/09/2016 19:07

I find putting all your fruit and veg on the conveyor belt in the middle of the shopping helps slow the checkout operator down, as they have loads of stuff to weigh. Gives you time to catch up with the packing.

Muddlingthroughtoo · 30/09/2016 19:09

Did you know Groovy biscuits used to be called Disco biscuits!! I'm guessing they changed them because Disco Biscuits was another name for Ecstasy or so I've heard 🤔

Muddlingthroughtoo · 30/09/2016 19:11

Those Velcro trolley bags are amazing btw! I've had the same ones for 2 years and I still love them.

Infinite Trolley Coin / Master Key - Twin Pack Red www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00EXUSQEK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_qPQ7xbKF7ZJG3

You all need one of these, no rifling for £1 or struggling to get the trolley coin back out.

Oysterbabe · 30/09/2016 19:13

I do tesco online too. I can't handle having my purchases thrown at me by an angry checkout girl. The last time I attempted it she actually huffed at me because I fumbled getting my card out and in the machine in my panic.

FrogFairy · 30/09/2016 19:18

For anyone who has the naice trolley bags above, I see they have mesh at the bottom so does that tear easily? A big bag of shopping can get pretty heavy.

ageingrunner · 30/09/2016 19:20

I think I'm at least the 3rd poster who's just come onto the thread to snigger about groovy biscuits being previously called disco biscuits Smile

AnMum · 30/09/2016 19:21

I'm with aquawoman, I just go at my own speed and resist the temptation to pack even slower each time they get faster. Eventually they have to stop and wait for you to catch up! IKEA bags in trolls helps though...

Soyouare2faced · 30/09/2016 19:23

Sorry late to the party here.....

I make it a game. I win everytime, I place good on the checkout in order, get ready with huge bags ready to fill and away we go.
No way would I pack at the side, fuck that.

SpeckledyBanana · 30/09/2016 19:38

I didn't know that. They shall forever be known as Disco Biscuits in the Speckledy household from this day Grin

definetlynotbored · 30/09/2016 19:56

I put small crates(the kind shop keeping use for carrying produce from vans into the store) into my trolley and then bung everything into them and take it to the car. Then I carry the crates to the house. It's brilliant. You can also use a laundry basket in the boot for the same purpose.

If you're not going by car its a nightmare though. You have to leave the basket at the start of the till so cant pack fast enough and I hate it.

Realhousewivesofshit · 30/09/2016 19:59

puppy that made me laugh. Drinking the coast now! Grin
I always load the conveyer belt the way I would pack.

I love the buzz of the rush to be quicker than the till operator so pushing into the trolley faster than they can scan. Wink

HemanOrSheRa · 30/09/2016 20:02

Frog I have had trolley bags for ages with no problems. They are actually different sizes although they fit in the trolley perfectly. I'm pretty sure I read this on the trolley bag website - the blue one is the smallest but sturdiest so I use that one for bottles. The rest I just judge by what shopping I have. The largest, orange bag is massive. You definitely wouldn't want to overload it.
