^ Not at all irrational!

MermaidTears · 29/09/2016 22:11

Sunday O'Connor 'nothing compares 2 u'
...the pain and raw emotion in her voice and the real test drop running down her cheek. Wahhhh.

Seeing any kind of soldier/army parade/ passing out thing...

Old war veterans with their poppy tins...

The thing that is guaranteed to make me burst into ridiculous tears without fail is any sort of act of random kindness.
It makes my heart hurt.

MermaidTears · 29/09/2016 22:12

Sinead* that is obviously meant to say

Tiggywinkler · 29/09/2016 22:15

Older people walking even older dogs.

Animals being kind to other animals.

When DD drinks from her little glass - she's ever so slow and careful, and tells herself to go "steady, steady". She's got chubby little baby fingers, and when I see them holding the glass, and her little concentration face, it makes me happy/sad because I want her to feel loved her whole life even after I'm gone.

clumsyduck · 29/09/2016 22:15

Oh god yeah mermaid that song makes me sob my heart out :(

WhooooAmI24601 · 29/09/2016 22:15

The scene in The Good Dinosaur where Spot and Arlo show one another their families (or lack of) and knock the little twigs down. I broke my heart over that film, as did MIL and my niece (21) who watched it with us.

When Baymax sacrifices himself in Big Hero 6.

And when the Neverbeast goes to sleep for a thousand years in Tinkerbell and the Legend of the Neverbeast. I cry like I might never stop at the scene where they all watch him fall asleep.

The only other thing I cry at (which isn't so irrational) is seeing the DCs in concerts, plays and assemblies. Doesn't matter when or where, I will weep openly as they sing and pick their noses.

WhooooAmI24601 · 29/09/2016 22:18

Also, watching the ceremonies at the Senotaph each Rememberace Day.

We went to see the Queen's dress display at Buckingham Palace. I loved it all and spent such a long time wandering about but seeing her coronation and wedding gowns left me in tears. I felt pathetic til one of the lovely curators admitted she fully understood why I'd be so emotional. It was such a beautiful display, and seeing such an incredible piece of history was just wonderful.

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 29/09/2016 22:23

Wetsthefinger and Navyandwhite absolutely yes...
Old men shopping alone ... completely breaks my heart. Not old women ... just old men ... I know it goes against all my feminist principles and I don't know why that is but it just makes so sad.

Creepy stories make me cry. I'm not woo at all, don't believe in ghosts etc. But as soon as some one starts telling s a ghost story or something woo ... I start crying ... well my eyes start weeping - it comes from nowhere. Really strange. No one else I know has this experience.

Oh yes, onemorecupofcoffee, I get that too! A signalman I know used to tell us stories of railway ghosts when we visited his signalbox - it used to make my eyes fill uncontrollably and I'd get goosebumps down my back.

The ones he told at night were the worst, with the soft lights in the box shining on the long silent line of signal levers...

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 29/09/2016 22:37

Thenoodles - railway ghosts ... my eyes started weeping as soon as I read that 😢you're the first person I've come across who had the same experience! It's so strange - I don't feel sad but it's like it touches something deep in my soul

Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro's stunning gold medal winning dressage performance in Rio. The way he tried so hard and gave her everything he had.

Crumblevision · 29/09/2016 22:45

raspberrysuicide · 29/09/2016 22:48

I cry at Cars too at the bit where the new Road has opened and they are all waiting there expectantly for customers but nobody comes:'(
Titanic always makes me cry from the very beginning.
And last night I cried while reading The Smelly Little Dog to dd although in fairness she was sobbing too because it was so sad that someone took a little dog to the beach and left him there.

Seren85 · 29/09/2016 22:50

Elderly gentlemen shopping alone, the ones who still wear a suit and tie to nip to Tesco. I was a wreck when I worked there! I think it is the unspoken effort of still dressing what they see as correctly. It makes me think of a different time.

Seren85 · 29/09/2016 22:52

Oh and whenever I hear the Last Post. Every flipping time.

ALaughAMinute · 29/09/2016 22:53

An advert on ITV - not sure what it's for but it has the theme tune 'When I fall in Love' by Nat King Cole. It gets me every time because I used to sing that song to my now ex husband. I keep wondering if he thinks of me when he hears it but I doubt it.

TheNoodlesIncident · 29/09/2016 22:57

onemorecoffee, it is crazy, I can't stop it happening. Was so glad to see I wasn't the only one! Smile

I'm sure the atmosphere in the signalbox really contributed to the effectiveness of the tales, I'm getting tearful now just remembering those happy times! Long gone now, as is the signalbox; the transport company heartlessly demolished it without letting any railway enthusiasts save any of its fittings Sad They named a day they would demolish it and then had it done the day before Angry

tibbawyrots · 29/09/2016 22:58

Salvation Army bands, I'm welling up.

Children singing.

John Lewis advert every year.

Scruff in The Archers when he was found.

WhisperingWind · 29/09/2016 22:58

Old people shopping alone buying meals for one or very cheap food. It can destroy whole days for me I can't stop crying about it.

MaQueen · 29/09/2016 22:59

Oh, and the scene in Braveheart when Mel Gibson is being executed and he sees his dead wife coming to him through the crowd...

Bedsheets4knickers · 29/09/2016 23:11

I've cried at topsy and Tim before Blush
