AIBU to wonder how the hell I keep ending up hair I don't want

No matter which hairdressers I go to no matter where in the country it is or what price range the cuts are I end up with the exact same cut EVERY BLOODY TIME.

I hate it as in really hate it to the point that I'm now contemplating shaving my head and having done with the whole hair thing.

I have taken pictures of what I want in it looks nothing like what I get, ive even taken pictures in and very clearly said do not give me this cut or one like it I hate it, ive spent hours building up trust with hairdressers (because I now have a phobia) got to the point when I trust them not to do it so feel ok with asking for a proper cut as opposed to a tiny trim and Yep I get the same cut despite being so clear about not wanting it

I don't know anything about hairdressing so don't know which styke they are doing untill its done and end up in tears everytime I have a haircut.

How? Why? And AIBU to think they shouldn't do it and wonder how I can stop them

That really sucks. I was persuaded to go recently, to support someones friend who started their own business, and ended up with a zillion hairs down my neck. I asked her to straighten it off. It was so crooked it was ridiculous, she got in a right strop.
DP had to sort it out that evening

That's annoying. I'm not usually happy with my hair either. Are you going when your hair is still too short to create style A maybe? Or perhaps you don't have the right hair for the style? What do the hair dressers say when you show them the pic. It does look like a style that would take a lot of styling, product etc.

I would say that the first pic looks like it has been really really styled - lots of hot brush and styling products - so maybe it isn't suitable for your hair? And they're trying to get as close as possible? A longer version of the Emma Watson cut could be flicked out to look like the first one but it would be a lot of work and effort I'd imagine.

Also you'd need to blow dry loads of volume into the roots to get the first pic with lots of product to keep the lift. Unless you have thick voluminous textured hair already it'd be a hard style to replicate at home.

I know very little about cutting hair but agree with pp. Have you brought both pics to a hairdresser and explained you want the first and definitely not the second?

Perhaps they could then either avoid the style you dislike, or explain why the cut to achieve the first style might look like the second one on your hair?

Sock if you lived nearer I would send you to my hairdresser.

My best tip is try to find someone who has hair you like abd ask where they get it done.

Years ago I gad incredibly long hair when I got it cut short I had a shorter version of the pic I wanted and it worked really well with my hair I do also let it grow out quite a bit between cuts.

Nobody else has done anything other than the one I don't like and ive made more than 20 attempts on several occasions I have even taken a friend with me to help make sure I explain it right and make it clear what I don't want, I even make a big deal about how I don't want stupid pointy bits on my face and nothing at all resting against my face.

I have a haircuts that have made me cry series of photos.

I just don't get it, is it some sort of weird conspiracy given I always end up with exactly the same cut.

I do not think today's horror is even salvageable in any way so I'm weighing up the pros and cons of either shaving head or getting a cosplay wig and just going with it until hair grows

It's not an accident either as it always dawns on me that they have done the stupid one when they start with the styling bit and start pulling the bits by my ears down and forward and start smoothing the hair

I think it's because your average hairdresser can only really cut a limited amount of hairstyles. They will make all the right noises and then cut the style that they have the last three people, albeit longer or shorter.

You really have to pay some money and probably travel to somewhere central to get the expertise that will give you the hairstyle you crave.

Those two haircuts are totally different! I can't figure out how even a bad hairdressers could get to the second one from the first. Can you post a pic of your hair now (blue your face if you like)?

I feel your pain, I have just had a good haircut for the first time in years and that was with three photos to explain what I wanted and a very bossy attitude - "do not touch my fringe" etc etc

Ive been to hairdressers that charge 800 and ones that charge 70 and had the same thing happen!

RJ I sort of said errrrmmmmm why are you doing that and she sounded all confident and said I'm showing you how to style it.

So ofcourse I paid walked out and sobbed.

Oh god. A friend has a gorgeous long messy inverted bob. I've asked for it so many times in hairdressers I've lost count but it's never right. It's a running joke with another friend who's also trying to get a similar style. My hair's pretty straight so not unsuitable.

Every bloody time I come out with a chin length straight cut and am gutted I'm back to square one and £100 poorer.

I flipped one day and went to a different hairdresser (knew my normal one was busy) gave her a photo and she cut my hair just how I wanted it and I loved it.

Next time, asked my normal hairdresser to trim it. She cut it straight back into the style she always does.

So I went back to the other hairdresser.

Gave the old hairdresser one more chance. Showed her the photo and everything. She gave me a lovely Claire Balding cut. I have spent the last 3 months growing out all the short layers she gave me.

Given up.

I remember Bill Bryson writing that a hairdresser will give you the haircut they want to give you and there's nothing you can do about it. I do agree with that.

Much as I would like Lisa Rinner's hair mine too would just end up flat.

Maybe they just aren't honest enough to tell you your hair can't take that style.

I think they go into a trance and totally forget what you asked for - so bloody annoying!

I like longer bits by my ears so it doesn't flip when I'm reading - every bloody time it's cut too short!

I've tried old /young / jazzy / etc hair salons and have yet to get the style I want!

I really think it's time hairdressers moved on with the world. It should be norm by noww to load your photo on to an iPad and superimpose a load of hairstyles and colours until you find one you really like. We shouldn't have to describe what we want or take in a photo. If paint shops can now colour match by computer , why can't hairdressers? They are serious,ybselling their customers short. I really kong they are also selling themselves short and could be creating Isions of loveliness for their ustomers if only they would embrace technology and use some imagination. I'm well due a make o er but where to start?

Ive had the style before (years ago) that's how I know I love it, been trying to replicate it since (original hairdresser retired)
