To be horrified by vaginal rejuvenation

Someone at work is having it done! With a laser! Which beats the rusty razor blade endured by terrified little girls in countries where women are second class citizens. However, it seems to me that hacking at your bits to make yourself tighter for a man is really a more sanitised version of female circumcision. There was some talk of labia reduction too. Can one have too much labia? Please tell me I am not being unreasonable to have been shocked.

derek you are utterly marvellous GrinGrinGrin

Yarboosucks · 28/09/2016 21:08

Antifeminist my arse!

manyathingyouknow · 28/09/2016 21:09

auser come off it. I think you're taking what a PP said out of context. I think there's a huge difference between having something done for the sake of your health and for the sake of vanity.

Ausernotanumber · 28/09/2016 21:11

But how would anyone in work know? I might say laughing I was having some work done to minimise it. I wouldn't say anything in work but everyone knows I'm getting my teeth fixed and I want my eyelids done so I might if I was getting it done let them think it was for vanity rather than cancer / prolapse / body issues.

NoFuchsGiven · 28/09/2016 21:11

Beware her arriving one morning carrying a photo album!!

Please say its not your Vulva in law, Op? Grin

AnyFucker · 28/09/2016 21:11

Yanbu. Some quite ridiculous comments here.

There is quite obviously a difference between medical procedures to reduce discomfort or to save a life and one to conform to patriarchal stereotypes (usually porn fuelled) of what a woman's genitals "should" look like

myownprivateidaho · 28/09/2016 21:12

I don't really get why you're assuming that the only reason to get surgery is for a man. Sexuality and gender identity is so much more complicated than that. I'm not fussed about my vagina, but I wear makeup, style my hair, think about my clothes, and have facials and botox done... Yes, of course I'm conforming to a standard of female beauty that is inextricably linked to the patriarchal society that produced it. But am I doing it "for a man"? No, of course not, and the same goes for the vast majority of women who subscribe to mainstream ideals of female attractiveness to whatever extent. It's ridiculous and antifeminist to suggest that anything other than rejection of sexist gender norms means you only care about pleasing a man.

manyathingyouknow · 28/09/2016 21:12

Don't get cornered by her in the toilets Shock

Houseofmirth66 · 28/09/2016 21:13

A procedure to remedy a medical problem is clearly not anti feminist. A medical procedure to remedy the natural variations in a woman's body is. These clinics are offering to make your genitals 'prettier'. I'd like to go on record as saying that I find women's genitals rather attractive in all of their natural glory. But maybe that's just me!

OP posts:
DerekSprechenZeDick · 28/09/2016 21:14

I don't find any genitalia pretty or attractive

They are hideous. Those naked mole rats remind me of penis'

Ausernotanumber · 28/09/2016 21:14

I would love to have my labia made prettier. For me.

The left one hangs really low and rubs sometimes. But mostly I just feel it. It's ugly. It is raggedy and just not nice. To get it tidied would be totally and utterly for vanity and if I could afford it, I would be doing it.

ashamedtoask · 28/09/2016 21:14

Hmm when I had a labiaplasty I had months if not years of appointments discussing it from age 16 - 21. I was given several other options and told all about risks etc. I was given three options for anaesthetic and was operated on in a sterile theatre by a professor of gynecology and cared for by lots of highly trained people. I was given analgesia and stayed in hospital overnight and then given home care for a week by highly trained district nurses and the GP. I was continually checked for infections, scarring, etc for up to one year and offered plenty of support from the hospital and my GP. My consent was checked several times and I knew exactly what was going to happen. I was also at the time of surgery an adult. It was all done to prevent the medical problems that had affected me for a very long time.

As far as I know , with female genital mutation it is generally quite different , is not? Non sterile environments, various women in the community performing surgery on frightened young girls in order to prevent normal sexual functioning of the vulva. Doesn't sound anything like what happened to me and part of me thinks it's a little bit offensive to those who are undergoing FGM to compare the two experiences.

GreatFuckability · 28/09/2016 21:17

I have a designer vagina lol.

I had surgery for various lady garden issues so i had it sorted on the nhs a few years ago. it was not fun or pleasant in anyway.

GreatFuckability · 28/09/2016 21:18

sorry, *surgery that left me with extensive scarring is what i mean.

RJnomore1 · 28/09/2016 21:22

I don't care what my vulva looks like as long as it feels amazing.

If I needed some tightening for me I'd consider it. If my labia rubbed abd hurt I'd consider it.

I'd never consider it to make it prettier. What if it caused nerve damage and I lost sensation?

Can imagine adult men going through voluntary surgery on their penis to make it look nicer!?

AnyFucker · 28/09/2016 21:24

When did we last hear a man say his genitals needed to look "nicer"

If men aren't doing it, women shouldn't be doing it (medical reasons notwithstanding)

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 28/09/2016 21:25

You can get penis surgery i think

I think its to make it bigger though

I am so not googling that

myownprivateidaho · 28/09/2016 21:28

Did you actually ask the woman at work about her motives?

dybil · 28/09/2016 21:30

In principle is it that different from penis enlargement surgery? That's been around for a while.

TheVirginQueen · 28/09/2016 21:30

The point is though, you wouldn't be self conscious about your fanjo at 16.

Wait til you're a few decades down the line with a few natural births under your belt and wondering if a man will notice.

DerekSprechenZeDick · 28/09/2016 21:30

Google says you can but it's not available on the NHS

Think you can get it straightened too.

Ausernotanumber · 28/09/2016 21:31

If we were improving from naked mole rat, I wonder what the aim would be Derek? 😀

DerekSprechenZeDick · 28/09/2016 21:33

Anything is better.

HerFaceIsaMapOfTheWorld · 28/09/2016 21:33

Some women get it for better pleasure too not just for the man.
Was having a discussion about anal bleaching though that is strange lol

Ginkypig · 28/09/2016 21:34

A woman choosing a medical procedure for herself because she is not happy esp if the reason is because somthing like childbirth has changed things is entirely feminist. We as women should have the right to choose for ourselves without the fear of being judged.

wether or not somone else would want that for themselves bears no relevance.

Also comparing it to fgm is very very offensive, those girls and women have been mutilated and abused both physically and mentally and to compare it to an operation an adult woman chooses for herself is completely inappropriate!

Infact your downright goady op. Your part of the reason women are ashamed of the choices they want for themselves.
